Chapter 1488:
“Just now, Jessica mentioned a company,” Kate said cautiously. “Does her dad run a company?”
“Yes,” he replied flatly.
“Do you love her that much?” she asked again.
“What are you really trying to say?” Melvin didn’t want to drag this out.
“She’s not right for you. You should find someone else,” Kate finally admitted, her voice going hoarse. “She looks
like she comes from a wealthy family. You two don’t match.”
Melvin didn’t answer.
“You might be in charge of a company now, but you're still just an employee,” Kate pressed on. “Your salary
can’t support her luxury lifestyle. You should consider finding someone new.”
“That's not your concern,” Melvin said flatly. No explanations.
He had never told his parents how much he earned or exactly what he did. They hadn't supported him when it
mattered, so why should they know the details now?
“She looks like a little princess,” Kate added. “If you stay with her, you'll be the one shouldering everything,
working hard and still trying to keep her happy.”
“Excuse me, ma'am.” Melvin’s tone cut clean through the air.
Kate froze as if she'd been slapped. Her lips trembled faintly. “What did you just call me?”
“You've only met her once. What makes you think you can judge her?” Melvin’s usually calm gaze burned now
with sharp, quiet anger. “Is that how you talk about someone you don’t even know?”

who can handle life at hwhile you're working. Otherwise, what kind of marriage is that?”
“I know what kind of life | want,” Melvin said coldly. “And I'm marrying her because | love her.”
“Melvin...” Kate looked like she wanted to protest but didn’t know where to start.

“You talk about care, but she’s the one who's always taken care of me,” Melvin went on, his voice shaking
slightly with something deeper. “She helpedback in school. She stood bywhen no one else did. And now,
she’s the one supportingemotionally.”
“What good is emotional support?” Kate finally snapped. “Marriage is about real things—meals, bills, a stable
home.”
