Chapter 1483:
Noticing how distracted he looked, she asked, “What's on your mind?”
“Nothing,” Melvin replied gently as he dried her hair, the temperature perfectly set.
Jessica muttered, giving him a knowing look, “Your face is saying otherwise.”
Melvin didn’t respond. He kept his focus on drying her hair. Once he finished, he paused, then asked, “Do you
love who | used to be—or the person | am now?”
Jessica blinked, caught off guard. “Huh?” Her brows lifted.
His expression turned serious. “I just don’t want you to regret being witha few years from now.” He had
always been the kind of guy who opened up to Jessica when something was bothering him. “If the only reason
you likeis because of something that happened when we were teens...”
Before he could finish, Jessica flicked his forehead with her finger. He winced and rubbed the spot, looking a little
dazed.
“I like the person you were back then, and the person you are now,” Jessica said clearly, her eyes steady and
sincere. “Unless you becsomeone completely different after we get married, | won't regret a thing.”
What mattered to her—had always mattered—was Melvin himself. As long as he kept treating her the way he
did, there was nothing to regret.
Melvin’s fingers twitched slightly. His gaze was conflicted. “But...”
“Did someone say something to you?” Jessica asked, narrowing her eyes. He hadn't looked like this before she
went for her shower. Something had clearly happened while she was gone.
Melvin hesitated but eventually decided to cclean. “My dad’s not a great guy.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtTurner was overbearing, a heavy drinker, a poser trying to act wealthy, neglectful of his child, and had a history
of domestic violence. Melvin believed Jessica had never dealt with anyone like that in her life.
“I want to marry you, not your dad,” she said plainly.
Melvin had always seen things clearly. He unlocked his phone and pulled up his chat with Turner, handing it to
her. He didn’t want to hide anything from her.
“Can | read your past messages with him?” Jessica asked cautiously.

Melvin nodded. She scrolled through them.
There wasn’t much—just a few exchanges here and there. She finished reading quickly.
“Don’t let it get to you,” she said, ruffling his hair with a warm smile. “Let him talk all he wants. You don’t need
to stress over it.”
“Aren't you mad about what he said?” Melvin asked carefully.
