Chapter 71
“What's the matter?”
“Where were you thirteen years ago on March 14th? Did you ever find yourself on Pine Street in Frant
City?”
“I can’t recall.” Sylvia turned her head away, maintaining an icy facade.
It had been ages, how could she possibly remember?
“Alright, Ill ask you another question.”
Edgar wasn’t fazed, he persisted patiently, “Do you remember a car accident thirteen years ago on March 14th?
Three people died on the scene, and only a young boy in the backseat survived. He was rescued by a girl.”
Why was he asking that?
Could that young boy have been him?
Sylvia looked into his probing eyes. Part of her memory was stirred, and she found herself remembering
fragmented images.
She did rescue someone that year, but it was pure happenstance.
Sylvia never took it to heart.
What's more, her visit to Frant city that year was driven by a very important matter concerning the Smith
family’s secrets. She had no intention of sharing this with Edgar, nor did she want him to continue his
investigation.
It was too risky. Sylvia didn’t want anyone else entangled in it.
“No, | don’t know,” Sylvia answered coldly. “If there’s nothing else, I'll take my leave.”
Edgar instinctively tried to stop her, but her icy gaze made him pull back his outstretched hand.
“Don’t forget your role as the fiance of Nancy, Mr. Fallen. Perhaps you should pay more attention to your bride-
to-be.”
Sylvia scoffed at him, unlocked the door, and left.
Just as Sylvia turned her back, she noticed a flicker of disappointment in his eyes.

It was barely noticeable, a fleeting moment, but she managed to catch it.
What was Edgar disappointed about?
Sylvia was perplexed but didn’t dwell on it.
Edgar was insignificant to her now. He couldn’t impede her journey.
She collected her thoughts, Sylviafully adjusted her hair, and stepped out of the private room without any
hindrance from Edgar.
As she exited, she met the hostile gaze of Tim.
Tim glared at her, seething with an air of hatred.
“Mr. Fallen has gathered all the evidence. The truth about you hiring someone to torment Miss Mellis will soon be
laid bare! When the tcomes, Mr. Fallen won't let you off the hook!”
“Are you done?”
Sylvia gave him a once-over, her lips curling into a provocative smile. “Then bring it on. I'll wait and see.”
Despite her petite frame, she radiated an overwhelming presence.
Tim locked eyes with her, her eyes brimming with laughter, and he couldn't help but retreat a few paces.
Sylvia, in her stilettos, made a swift exit.
In the vast dining room, only the echo of her footsteps remained.
“It’s really strange.”
Tim couldn't make heads or tails of his recent fear of her.
It had been two days since Edgar's five-day deadline.
The media was all over it like white on rice, continually speculating about the situation.
Sylvia was turning a blind eye to all the bad press and negative comments, focusing solely on preparing for the
girl group talent show. She didn’t give a hoot about the smear campaigns against her.
“Ms. Lancelot, here is the paperwork for the shooting location. It needs your final once-over.” Beth placed
a folder next to her.
“Understood. Leave it with me. I'll call you when I'm done.”

Sylvia's gaze didn’t waver from her computer screen, her fingers dancing aerom the yeyed.
Beth bit her tongue, looking at her boss, then decided to speak up: “Ms. Lancey, have YOU ARE WE they're
saying online?”
“I've glanced at it.”
Sylvia gave her a sidelong look and went back to her work.
“Then why are you still...” Beth was left scratching her head.
“Still cool as a cucumber?” Sylvia closed her laptop, leaned back in her chair, and clarified.
“It was Mr. Fallen who, in front of the press, promised to clarify the situation. I'm just waiting to see what kind of
song and dance he'll put on. Moreover, despite all the hullabaloo online, it hasn't affected me, has
it?”
“But...”
“No buts. Back to work. The talent show's just around the corner, and you've got your plate full too”
Knowing Sylvia was no pushover, Beth bit her lip, going back to her work.
Sylvia was burning the candle at both ends, working on her career.
Meanwhile, in a hospital a stone’s throw away from Angle Group, Nancy was lying on her bed, killing ton her
phone.
Her injuries had significantly healed. These past days, she'd been monitoring the online mudslinging towards
Sylvia, even paying a few keyboard warriors to stir the pot.
Watching the wave of praise for herself and criticism of Sylvia drown out the defense of Sylvia, she was
pleased as punch.
She was browsing her Twitter when a new message popped up, freezing the smile on her face.
“Miss Mellis, Mr. Fallen hasn’t made any major moves these past couple of days, and he hasn't lined up
any tasks for me. I'm not sure what his gplan is.”
Ever since Tim agreed to lend a hand, he'd been keeping a keen eye on Edgar's every move.
He'd shoot her a report at the slightest hint of action.
However, Edgar didn’t take any action, which made her suspicious.
“Understood, thanks for the update, Tim.” She shot Tim a sweet toned voice message in response.

When Tim heard her voice, he was more chuffed than ever. It just reaffirmed his commitment to helping her and
to making sure Sylvia got her comeuppance.
Nancy switched off her phone in a huff, sank back into her bed, mulled over things for a moment, and then
dialed a number.
“Hey, how have you been recently?”
Sarah's voice oozed with lazy charm.
“Thanks to you, I'm still cooped up in this hospital.” Nancy replied coldly, “What's the next move?”
Sarah admired her freshly painted nails and drawled, “Cool your jets. I've found her weakness. | can send her to
hell tonight.”
“Really?!”
Nancy asked uncertainly, “I've fallen into her trap twice already. Given the school of hard knocks we're been
through, you better tread carefully.”
“Wasn't it your own boneheaded move that got us here?” Sarah raised her voice and retorted, “Ifir weren't for
you, we wouldn't have dropped the ball and got ourselves in this mess.”
Nancy was seething, but she couldn’t very well lose her cool. She hung up the call, her teeth gritted, and silently
put the blon Sylvia.
“Your day of reckoning is coming, just wait.”
She tossed her phone onto the bed, her face set in a fierce and ominous scowl!
The girls’ group talent show was nearing its grand finale.
After wrapping up the final coordination tasks in the afternoon, Sylvia oversaw the first day's recording of the
show via remote connection.
As things went well, Sylvia was pleased and shut off the inteconnection.
She'd put people on the ground at the recording site to keep her in the loop in case of any hiccups.
The phone gave a sudden jingle. It was a call from the person at the recording site.
“Bad news, Director Lancelot, Abigail is nowhere to be found!"
