"What should | do then? | even signed the divorce papers to let you two be together, but you refused and made
Jean your mistress instead. How is that my fault? Do you even know what you're talking about?
"| treated you with respect, cared for you, and willingly becJean's substitute for six whole years. But now,
I'm done! Do whatever you want!"
Splashing the water on Brad's face, Nadine swerved around and left.

Over time, she'd experienced hope shifting to disappointment, and then from disappointment to despair. Only
she knew how excruciating it felt.
Violence wasn't the only thing that could hurt a person. Constantly plunging a person into despair could really
tear a person apart.
Initially, Nadine thought Brad might have developed at least sfeelings for her, that he would care even just
a little for her after six years of living together as a married couple.
Now, it finally struck her he would never love her.
No matter who it was, only Jean was the apple of his eye. While he could indulge
in her unconditionally, he could also flirt and have sex with other women. But she was the only one he loved
nonetheless.
Having overestimated her significance to him, Nadine led herself to another disappointment.
Brad was drenched in hot water. Fortunately, it wasn't scalding and didn't burn him, but it still stung.
He wiped the water off his face. When he opened his eyes again, Nadine had already reached the door and was
about to leave.
Brad darted after her and grabbed her hand as it reached the doorknob. Water dripped from his hair as he
glowered at her and snarled, "Nadine, you're going to pay for this!"
Ignoring her protests, he pinned her back onto the bed again.
"I'll repeat it again. Jeanie is only back for her treatment, and she'll leave once she's recovered. Stop making a
fuss! Haven't you had enough after all this time? Have | been too lenient with you?"
To be honest, her decisiveness in splashing the water in his face still shocked him. In contrast to her usual
docility, she didn't even hesitate when she splashed him earlier. She didn't even bat an eye.

Nadine usually cared for him a lot, after all. She would get anxious even if he scraped his finger, and she'd
meticulously tend to his wound and fuss over him all day.
This drastic change in her behavior left Brad baffled.
She struggled frantically, kicking and flailing her arms about in the air every the got close to her. With her
arms extended, she also clawed at him, leaving several bloodied marks on his face.
A jolt of pain shot through Brad. He stopped wrestling with her and touched his wounds. She had injured him!
Agitated by his blood, he acted as if he'd transformed into a different person. Tearing her clothes into shreds, he
tied her limbs to the bedpost with his tie. A sinister grin crossed his face.
"Who do you think you are? Do you think you could becthe lady of the Hamilton family if it wasn't for me?
Do you think you'd be able to live in such a fancy house?
"Your son would've been regarded as an illegitimate child if it wasn't for me. You'd have been looked down upon,
and your reputation would've been ruined for the rest of your life!
"Is this how you treat someone who has helped you?"
