Chapter 607 Elodie walked right past him and headed straight upstairs.
Jarrod glanced back at her retreating figure, then turned and entered the nursery. He took the little toy from Cara's hands. "Here, I'll take care of it. Don't worry, you go ahead with your work." Cara looked puzzled, but she nodded and left the room.
Jarrod stood by the crib, carefully fixing the component back in place. He ran his thumb along the rail, then finally turned and walked out.

But instead, the old lady had already instructed the staff to prepare a guest room. Then she turned to Cara and said, "Go and make that restorative tonic for Elodie." She looked Elodie up and down, frowning. "You've been working too hard. Look at you-you're all skin and bones. Didn't Dr. Badgers used to prescribe you those supplements? You stopped taking them because you got busy, but you really can't neglect your health." Just hearing about those tonics made Elodie's scalp prickle. In the second year of her marriage-though cracks were already forming by then-Jarrod had arranged for Dr. Badgers, the sspecialist who took care of his grandmother, to help her recover physically. His grandmother had been more than happy to see it, always making sure she had the most expensive supplements and medicines.
With their help, Elodie had slowly regained much of the strength she'd lost from years spent caring for her sick mother, and later from the injury she'd suffered protecting Ivan Harcourt.
But she'd never been good at refusing the concern of elders who cared for her, so she simply nodded. "Thank you for thinking of me, Grandma." Still, her mind was elsewhere. She wondered how she was going to excuse herself tonight. With Jarrod's grandmother staying over, it wouldn't be easy to slip away unnoticed. Jarrod was in his study, working. Maybe she'd find a chance to talk to him about it later.
Elodie didn't go downstairs. She stayed out on the terrace, sending messages in her work group chat, ironing out sproject details with the tech team.
In the kitchen, a few housekeepers from the old house were still tidying up.
Not long after, another housekeeper brought up a bowl of tonic. Elodie glanced at it and let it cool for a while before pinching her nose and swallowing it all in one go. The bitterness and faintly spicy taste nearly made her gag. She quickly grabbed her phone and headed downstairs-she suddenly remembered the dried fruit she'd stashed in her mini-fridge. Right now, that felt like a lifeline.
She made her way toward the kitchen. The staff were finishing up, chatting quietly among themselves as they worked. None of them noticed her approach.
One of the housekeepers, Karan, lowered her voice, her expression a little odd. "Did you know that Mr. Silverstein and his wife actually aren't happy together?" Cara shot her a baffled look. "You shouldn't say things like that. I've worked here for years-Mr. Silverstein has never even raised his voice at her." But Karan shook her head. "I used to think that, too. But I know a secret-I found out by accident. Do you remember how Mr. Silverstein always brought back those vel supplements from Dr. Badgers for Mrs. Silverstein, and asked you to brew them?" Cara nodded.

Karan sighed. "Those tonics really are great for your healthy full of rare m ingredients, but..." The content is on Obreath rarem novelenglish.net! Elodie, standing at the doorway, turned to look at her.
Unaware that someone was listening, Karan lowered her voice even more.
"Do you know why Mrs Silversteim never had children all those years? One time, when I was picking up the medicine, I overheard someone at Dr. Badgers' office say that buried in all those expensive herbs was a harmless contraceptive." Elodie froze in place.
For a moment, her expression was blank with shock. Then disbelief m stowly crept across her face.
