Chapter 146 The Abandoned Fool
Hadley expressed her confusion, asking, “How did these photos get out? They're not the kind that anyone can
just obtain.”
“Exactly,” Elissa added. “It makesthink Alita might have upset someone important in the industry.”
The industry was already crowded with people but had few opportunities. There was simply no room for
newcomers like Alita.
“Likely,” Hadley said with a nod, feeling her stomach rumble. “Enough about her. | could use something to eat.”
“Shere. Let's grab something quickly.”
Two days later, with the typhoon behind them, performances picked up again.
With Alita gone, Hadley found her days with the troupe far less complicated, focused solely on rehearsals and
shows.
To her, the routine was as essential as breathing or eating.
Following their stint in Tidebourne, the troupe toured several other cities.
One evening after the show, Hadley glanced at her phone, eagerly counting down the days until she returned to
Blathe.
Her phone suddenly rang-it was Colleen.
“Mommy!” As soon as the call connected, Colleen and Joy's faces appeared together on the screen, with Colleen
mimicking Joy's cheerful greeting.
“Yes, my darlings, you're both doing so well,” Hadley responded with a laugh, filled with joy.
“It’s incredible.” Colleen noticed Hadley’s growing happiness and smiled. “Ever since you started this career,
you've been glowing and even more beautiful!”
“Auntie Colleen,” Joy chimed in, “Mommy has always been beautiful! The most beautiful!”
Colleen paused, and then laughed heartily. “You're right, Joy! What about me, then?”
Caught off-guard for a second, Joy then said, “You are the most beautiful too!”
Colleen continued playfully, “And what about yourself?”
“Um?” Joy furrowed her brow in deep thought. “I am also the most beautiful.”

“Ah, you clever girl!” Colleen gently tickled Joy’s nose. “We're all beautiful, aren't we?”
“Exactly,” Joy began to explain, “like the candies in my drawer, every single one is delicious.”
“Joy is so smart.” Watching them, Hadley couldn't help but smile. “Joy, Mommy will be back in Blathe in just a
week.”
“Wow!” Joy's eyes lit up. “Really?”
She started counting on her fingers and said, “I can’t wait to see you! Mommy, | miss you so much.”
too.” Hadley’s heart ached with longing. “Mommy misses Joy a lot as well.”
Their conversation continued warmly for quite stime. When they finally said goodbye, Hadley wasn't as
melancholic as usual.

Soon, they would be reunited.
“Joy, Mommy loves you. Sleep tight.”
“Joy loves Mommy more!”
Moments after the call ended, her phone vibrated again.
A text from Denver appeared.
“Will you be back in Srixby tomorrow?”
“Yes, | will be.”
“Should | cto pick you up?”
Denver had already made his way back from his business in Tidebourne. Amid their hectic schedules, phone calls
had been their only communication.
“The whole group is traveling back together. Meetat the dance troupe’s entrance instead. I'll text you the
time. If plans change, | can make my way on my own. No worries.”
Denver agreed without objection; their conversations were always smooth and constructive.
“Sounds good. I'll be there. Just letknow when.”
“Sure.”
Hadley put her phone away and noticed Elissa’s curious gaze. “So, are you guys a thing now?”
“Not really,” Hadley replied, shaking her head.
It had been too long since they'd last seen each other-what was there really to define?
“Playing it safe?” Elissa nudged her playfully. “He’s quite the catch and treats you well... but | guess it’s smart to
be careful.”
“True.”
At the stime, Denver was with Marshall and the crew.

Chapter 146 The Abandoned Foot
Having just put down his phone, Marshall probed him. “Everything back on track?”
A shy smile crossed Denver's face as he nodded. “It’s heading that way.”
Though Hadley hadn't made any commitments, Denver felt that she was warming up to the possibility.
He believed a little more persistence might just seal the deal.
“That's great to hear.”
Nearby, Barrie caught Eric's eye as he sipped his drink quietly and murmured, “Was that wild helicopter flight
through the storm all for naught?”
Eric's response was a soft laugh as he glanced at Barrie. “Really, a single guy like you givinggrief?”
Barrie was at a loss for words.
Since when had being single been such a crime?
Irritated, Barrie retorted, “It’s better to be single than a lovesick fool who's been abandoned like yourself!”
“Con,” Eric scoffed.
“A lovesick fool? She’s hardly worth losing any sleep over!”
With that, he finished his drink in one swallow and got to his feet.
“Where are you off to?” Barrie inquired.
“I'm out of here! I've got plans to head to Blathe early tomorrow!”
Eric was serious; he had business to attend to in Blathe with a supplier.
Upon returning to Flynn Mansion, Eric made his way upstairs. As he approached Ernest's room, the caregiver was
just exiting.
“Mr. Flynn.”
“Is Ernest still up?”
“He is just winding down with sreading.”
“Ill close the door. You go ahead.”
“Alright.”
Eric pushed open the door, planning to bid Ernest goodnight, yet he halted at the sight of Ernest propped against
the headboard, a book laid open but he wasn’t reading it.
In his grasp was a tortoiseshell hairpin, his expression distant. Clearly, he was lost in thoughts of its owner.
It seemed Ernest was still haunted by memories tied to that hairpin.
Who could that person be?
This was the first tEric realized Ernest had such deep feelings for someone.
Choosing not to interrupt, Eric silently stepped away. Ernest never noticed he was there.

The following morning, before the break of dawn, Eric left Srixby for Blathe.
Upon his arrival, despite the jet lag, he wasted no tin reaching out to the supplier to begin negotiations.
He was generally fit and healthy, so initially, he didn’t worry too much.
It was never a problem in the past.
However, this tsomething felt off as soon as he got off the plane.
Phillips checked his temperature. “Mr. Flynn, you're running a fever.”
“I'm aware,” Eric said with a nod.
The warmth in his breath was noticeable.
“You should really think about going to the hospital, Mr. Flynn.”
“No need.” Eric dismissed the idea with a shake of his head.
Visiting a hospital wasn’t feasible. Unresolved supplier issues demanded his attention and could lead to
significant complications.
“I'll manage with smedicine.”
“But...” Phillips looked concerned, trying to reason with him. “Mr. Flynn, there's no need to overexert yourself.”
“No need to overexert myself?”
Eric managed a dry laugh. “I've been managing everything alone since Ernest fell into a coma. Now that he’s
recovering, | have to ensure the business is flawless before | pass the reins back to him. We can’t afford any slip
-ups.”
His brother's situation had fundamentally shaped his path.
“Alright,” Phillips said, reluctantly. “I'll get the medicine for you.”
After taking his medication, Eric went ahead with his meeting with the supplier that evening, pushing through
the negotiations.
Despite taking the medicine, his fever persisted after two days of rigorous negotiations.
