Chapter 190

A champagne-colored BMW slowly rolled into the neighborhood where Michelle lived. Michelle had dinner ready,

and her face lit up in joy when she saw them coming back. "I'll whip up another dish real quick," she said.

Michelle glanced at Dwight, who looked all chipper and full of energy. In front of Michelle, he was always on his

best behavior, even helping out with chores. But Michelle just laughed and told him to go freshen up first.

He immediately grabbed his luggage and headed for the small room, his ease making Eloise suspicious that he

might be Michelle's family.

By the tMichelle finished cooking, Dwight emerged from the bathroom, all fresh and clean. His long legs

looked good in anything he wore. He sat next to Michelle and served her food, acting the part of a dutiful son.

Even though Eloise was somewhat displeased with him, she had to admit that Dwight was really good at

cheering Michelle up, and it made her happy just watching them.

While they were eating, the doorbell rang.

"I'll get it," Dwight offered.

Watching his tall figure, Michelle whispered, "Such a good kid, so warm and polite." Eloise just smiled.

On the other side, Dwight opened the door to a middle-aged man who appeared well-mannered and an older

woman. "Who are you looking for?"

Griffin, along with his mother and wife, had cto visit and were taken aback by the person who opened the

door. Was this the wrong place?

He politely asked, "Is Eloise at home?"

Eloise cringed at the sound of his voice, but Michelle comforted her, "Anyone who comes here is our guest. Your

father always said that. We can't lose our manners."

Eloise managed a weak smile.

Michelle welcomed the Lynch family in, and before she could even offer them anything, Jane was already on the

verge of tears. "My granddaughter lives in a house like this! Oh, Griffin, what kind of father are you?"

Griffin remained silent, looking displeased.

Eloise coolly responded, "I'm doing just fine, Mr. Lynch. No need for you to feel guilty."

Michelle poured them swater.

Jane tried to reach for Eloise's hand, but she pulled away. Jane looked hurt. "Why won't you cback, dear?

Even if Griffin can't give you anything else, he can give you a huge inheritance. You'd live a thousand times

better with us. If you're willing to cback, your father's fortune will be left to you and Joan. We won't play

favorites."

Eloise felt numb. These people just wanted their biological granddaughter, and didn't care about her pain facing

Joan. They didn't truly want to accept her; they just wanted her to reconcile with Joan.

She remained silent.

Dwight glanced at her, then turned to Jane and said, "All this over smoney, really?"

Griffin's wife was not pleased. She looked at Dwight, assuming he was just an employee, and scoffed, "That's

more money than you'll ever see in your lifetime."

Dwight put down his toothpick. He smirked, "I've got a few billion bucks onright now. Do you want some?"

Griffin's wife was so angry she was shaking. "Griffin, look at the riffraff Eloise keeps in her company. I've told you,

her upbringing is too complicated for her to fit

in with the Lynch family. Joan is much simpler in comparison!"

Griffin hesitated, was Eloise really unfit to return to the Lynch family?

Eloise just scoffed. "Mr. Lynch, | can't drive because of a foot injury. Is it a crto request a driver? Also, no

matter how complicated or simple | am, I'm not good enough for the Lynch family. Please leave!"

Dwight laughed and stood by her side. "Yeah, yeah, stop interrupting our family meal!"

Eloise shot him a glance, they were not family! But she had to admit he was useful. Keeping him around to look

after Michelle and provide sprotection from the Lynch family wasn't a bad idea.

With that thought, Eloise found him more bearable.

Griffin looked pale. Eloise's foot injury meant she couldn't drive. Did that also mean she couldn't play piano

anymore? He stepped forward earnestly. "Eloise, cwithoverseas. I'll find the best doctor for you. You

have my best genes, once your foot heals, you're bound to be successful."

Eloise just gave a cold smile.

Dwight scoffed, "So you just want an heir!"

Just as Griffin was about to explain, Dwight started shooing them away. "Get out

of here. We didn't cook for you. Seriously, the three of you cover without any

warning. Are you out of food and cover for a meal?"

The Lynch family was so angry that their faces were twisted.

Outside, Diana gritted her teeth. "Where did this punk cfrom?"

But Griffin was lost in thought. He remembered the look Eloise had given him earlier. It was cold and distant,

without a hint of warmth.

Diana noticed his mood and gently touched his arm. "We still have Joan, Griffin. Joan is our real child. It's normal

for Eloise to be distant since we didn't raise her."

Thinking of Joan, Griffin felt a soft spot in his heart. His only wish now was for Joan to have a good life after her

divorce. If that could happen, their family would be complete.

After they left, Eloise stayed silent. Michelle took the initiative to speak, "We're not letting them in again!"

She felt sorry for Eloise. She thought having a biological father would make things better, but she realized that

the Lynch family didn't really care about Eloise.

Eloise gently patted Michelle's hand. "Mom, I'm fine!"

Dwight sat down to eat. He was quite the charmer. "Don't you worry. Withby your side, you'll be living on

easy street, glowing every damn day!"

Michelle chuckled.

Eloise was a bit anxious after spending a night here.

Dwight was doing a bang-up job cheering up Michelle. Eloise was rather pleased. She got ready to head to work

early in the morning, but just as she was about to step out, Dwight, leaning against a champagne-colored BMW,

lazily greeted her. "Morning, Ms. Laurent!"

Eloise cleared her throat. "Just stick with my mom."

"But Michelle toldto stick with you all day, what do | do now? Who should I listen to?" Dwight said with a

grin.

Eloise didn't bother to argue. She got in the car and softly said, "Drive to Encore Soundworks on Liberty Street!"

Dwight gestured and then stepped on the gas. Being a race car driver, his driving skills were top-notch. What

should have been a half-hour drive, he managed to complete in just 15 minutes. The car cto an abrupt stop

under the office building.

Dwight hopped out of the car, opened the door for Eloise, and grumbled, "Can't you sit next tofor once?

You're making sitting in the back a habit, only the loaded sit in the back."

"I'm your boss!" Eloise retorted.

As she headed towards the elevator, she turned back and said, "I don't need the car for the morning. Go keep

my mom company, maybe do sshopping."

Holding the elevator door open, Dwight laughed. "I see what you're up to. You wantto get in good with your

mom, then havesurrender without a fight. Ms. Laurent, why not just be upfront about it, save us stime."

Eloise entered the elevator, leaving behind one piece of advice. "Go see a shrink!"

Dwight was stumped. But he did as told, and even brought back a bill to get reimbursed, "See, told you I'm fine. |

even saw a urologist. I'm perfectly healthy, want to check for yourself?"

Eloise ignored him. She was looking at an invitation, an invitation to Callum's wedding.

The wedding was on Saturday night.

She didn't expect Callum to invite her, given her past with Delilah. Just as Eloise was puzzled, a call from Callum

cin. The invitation was Riley's idea. Riley wanted to bring Veronica to the Colman family wedding and hoped

Eloise could join them.

Eloise hung up, rubbed her forehead, and felt helpless, but couldn't say no.

Dwight rapped his knuckles on the table, discontentedly. "Your ex is getting married?"

Eloise didn't want to talk about it. She flatly said, "There's a piano that needs to be moved to the headquarters.

Be a dear and do it."

Flashing his teeth, Dwight laughed. "Ms. Laurent, you sure know how to use people. After all the grunt work I'm

doing, | deserve scompensation. | want to go to your ex's wedding with you, and you're treatingto

dinner."

Prestige Legal Advisors.

They had a big fish for a client today, a billionaire, Stuart Arellano, from Rossland. Sitting in Harvey's office,

Stuart complimented, "Mr. Horigan, your firm is doing quite well."

Harvey modestly replied, "Mr. Arellano, I'm not even in your league."

After a few more pleasantries, Stuart got down to business. "Mr. Horigan, I'll cut to the chase. I'm here in

Peterborough for two things, first, to attend the Colman family wedding, and second, to find my good-for-nothing

son, Dwight. He ran away from hwithout a word, leaving only a note saying he was off to Peterborough to do

something big. I'm worried he doesn't have any money on

him."

Harvey remembered the young man. Smiling, he said, "Young people need to face sdifficulties, Mr. Arellano,

there's no need to worry."

Stuart sighed, "As much as | want to believe that | can't help but worry that he might stray. Mr. Horigan, you're

well-acquainted with Peterborough. Could you helpfind Dwight?"

Harvey kept his smile. "Of course."

Stuart was quite upset, but he missed his son dearly. He sighed softly, "I have no

idea where Dwight is, whether he's homeless... well, see you at the Colman family wedding on Saturday!"

Harvey politely saw him out.

After he left, Denise walked in, "Attorney Horigan, should we start looking into Dwight's situation? I'm sure we

can find him in no time."

Harvey took a sip of his coffee. He smiled faintly and said, "Mr. Arellano is too indulgent with his son. That boy

needs to toughen up a bit."
