"Cleaning staff? This floor is for the CEO's offices. What are you two doing up here?" His tone was getting sharper. "And earlier, you were lurking by the door, spying, weren't you—" "Enough, let's not make this harder than it needs to be," a man interrupted, his voice calm.
I turned around and was surprised to see Yvan. He'd somehow appeared at the door and was now sizing us up. "Mr. Jaeger!" The guy greeted him right away, his tone softening. "These two—" "It's fine," Yvan said with a smile, waving it off. "It's normal for new staff to get lost around here. Just be a little more careful next time." He then gave Madison anda nod. "Thanks for all your hard work. If you need anything, just letknow." With that, he turned and walked away briskly.
I stood there frozen, unsure of what to do. Someone was being this polite tofor the first time, especially in such an awkward moment.

I gave a wry smile. "Now you're scared? You're the queen of the underworld, Maddie." Madison glared at me. "I only did it because I felt bad for you. I couldn't say no." She sighed.
