But it looked like Ethan didn't notice. He just frowned and turned back, picking up his conversation with Yvan.

I looked away, a mix of emotions running through me.

Madison must have caught my disappointment because she gave my shoulder a light pat. "Don't get discouraged. There'll be other chances. Hey, take a look. Who's that woman beside Ethan?" I followed her gaze and saw a woman in a red dress practically glued to Ethan's arm, whispering something in his ear. She was tall, gorgeous, and had this magnetic confidence that made it clear she knew exactly how to work a room.

Jealousy burned inside me, and before I could stop myself, I blurted out, "She's just a flirt in a fancy dress!" As soon as the words left my mouth, I regretted them. What was wrong with me? Noticing my discomfort, Madison smoothly changed the topic. "Don't mind her. We need to move fast. How about you talk to Yvan and see if you can get anything useful out of him? I'll keep an eye on you from here." I nodded, taking a deep breath to calm myself. "Okay. Let's do this." With that, I grabbed a glass of wine and headed toward Yvan.

"Mr. Jaeger, it's great to meet you," I said with a smile. "I'm Laura Lambert, a reporter with Stellar Magazine. Would you be open to an interview?" Yvan gavea once-over, then flashed a smile. "Oh? An interview? You magazine folks sure have guts. Fine, I'm in a good mood today, so I'll let it slide. But don't push it with any questions you shouldn't ask, or I won't be so nice." I nodded eagerly. "No worries. I'm just sticking to the basics-like what charity means to you, what your favorite sport is, or what traits you look for in a partner. You know, the usual questions." I kept an eye on his face while I spoke. Sure enough, when I hit that last question, he looked a little thrown off, like he was hiding something.

I pushed ahead without missing a beat. "Mr. Jaeger, have you ever had an ex you couldn't get over? What's her name? What does she do? And what went wrong between you two?" As soon as the words left my mouth, Yvan's face went dark, his eyes burning with rage.

"H-How did you know about that?" He glared at me, shaking with anger. "Who are you? Did that bastard Murphy send you?"

My heart was pounding, and I quickly shook my head. "No, no, no, I'm justral reporter. I'm just curious about your past relationships."

"Bullshit!" Yvan growled. "You think I'm buying that? I can have security I b toss you out of here right now!"

He was about to call for security when, in my panic, I blurted out the first thing that cto mind. "Is Alina Lindstrom really that painful for you to think about?" "H-How do you know who Alina is?" Yvan froze like he'd been struck by lightning.

I was just as shocked as he was.

Alina Lindstrom? I'd never heard that nbefore, but somehow, it just slipped out-and it was the right one.
