Chapter 73

“We're here,” Lewis only spoke after bringing the car to a full stop.

Jimmy opened his drowsy eyes and glanced around. “That fast?”

Lewis replied curtly, “There's no traffic at night.”

Jimmy pushed the door open to get out, and then turned to Lewis. “Get out and walkupstairs.”

Lewis, acting good-natured, stepped out and escorted Jimmy up. “Alright, I'll be heading off now.”

“Stop right there,” Jimmy called out as he opened the door. “Cin. | have something to say to you.”

Lewis checked the time-it was already past 3 AM. “It’s too late. You should rest. Whatever it is, you can say it

another time.”

“What? Chickening out?” Jimmy raised an eyebrow, looking smug.

“I'm just thinking about your health,” Lewis replied, not wanting to get tangled up with Jimmy. He knew that

Jimmy would just keep dragging things out endlessly.

“Oh, I'm in great health. | can wait until the day you two get divorced,” Jimmy sneered. “Get in here.”

Lewis raised an eyebrow slightly. He knew Jimmy wouldn't call him up for anything good. He had planned to

avoid it, but Jimmy wasn’t letting go. So, he thought he might as well face Jimmy head-on.

Jimmy sat down on the living room sofa, and Lewis took the seat to his left.

“Poura glass of water. I'm thirsty,” Jimmy ordered.

Lewis didn’t argue with him. He picked up the kettle, poured a glass, and set it down in front of Jimmy. “Enjoy.”

Jimmy took a big gulp. “Back when Ryan was driving us and Doris around, his cars were all worth millions. And

now, Doris’s stuck riding in your crappy car. | don’t know what spell you put on her. You didn’t bewitch my Doris,

did you?”

Jimmy looked at Lewis with contempt, thinking he must have used sunderhanded trick.

Lewis didn’t reply. The faint smirk on his lips was neither confirming nor denying.

“If it weren't for you stealing my Doris away, she would've already married Ryan by now-she’d be Mrs. Watson,

the wife of Watson Group's president. What can you even offer my Doris? Can your car and house compare to

what Ryan can give her?

“You are not worthy of the Hartman family. Since you gavea ride htoday, I'll give you sadvice.

You're tall and handsome-rich girls love guys like you. I'll have Ryan introduce you to swealthy heiresses.

“Use the ssweet talk you used to deceive my Doris and coax a rich girl into marrying you. Wouldn't that be

better? The Reed family has no grudges against you. Why must you ruin my Doris? Why must you harm the Reed

family?”

Lewis cut straight to the point, tearing apart Jimmy's hypocritical facade. “This is just your wishful thinking. Mr.

Watson already has a fiancée. Are you sure he'll marry Doris?

“Doris has been with him for three years. If he wanted to marry her, he would have done it already. He wouldn't

have g engaged to another woman.”

Jimmy's face darkened. He furrowed his brows and said, “Mr. Hartman, my Doris has been beautiful since

childhood. Many rich young men have pursued her. Even if it's not Ryan, it certainly won't be you.

n

“You don’t even cclose to my standards for a son-in-law. | will never agree to you being with Doris. You'd

better give up.”

Jimmy got up and went to the bedroom. After a while, he returned with an A4 sheet of paper in his hand. He

comedor paper in front of Lewis.

Lewis's gaze fell on the document titled: [Divorce Agreement.]

“Sign this divorce agreement and end this mistake with Doris. From now on, you and Doris will go your separate

ways and have nothing to do with each other, Jimmy ordered.

Lewis picked up the divorce agreement and chuckled, “You've really thought this through

“Enough nonsense-sign it.” Jimmy pulled a black pen from the coffee table drawer and tossed it to Lewis. “As

Doris’s father. | have the right to correct her mistakes.”

“Marriage is between us, and divorce is between us too. Even if you're her biological father, you have no right to

interfere? Lewis held the agreement at both ends and effortlessly tore it in half.

He tossed the shredded agreement into the trash and raised an eyebrow. “That's my answer

“You-" Jimmy's chest tightened as he stared at the torn paper. “Don’t push your luck.

“I make my own decisions-no one can forceto do anything | don’t want to do, not even you. Lewis’s aura was

overwhelming and domineering.

Jimmy was completely intimidated by Lewis's presence. Despite being older, he was no match for Lewis's

imposing aura. At this moment, fear crept over him, and cold sweat broke out on his back and forehead.

He thought, ‘Is this man really just an ordinary person? How could an ordinary person exude such a powerful and

sharp aura?’

Jimmy felt as if he were facing an entire army alone. He couldn't afford to provoke Lewis. So he just sat frozen on

the sofa, unable to utter a single word.

“If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving. Take care,” Lewis said as he prepared to stand up.

“Wait,” Jimmy called out.

Lewis glanced at him sideways, as if to say, “What else? Hurry up.”

Jimmy swallowed hard. “If you won't divorce her, then we can’t just let this slide so easily.”

“What do you want?” Lewis asked casually, as if he were at home. He had turned the situation in his favor.

“The wedding gift.” Jimmy changed his approach. “Doris is marrying you, so as the groom, you must prepare a

wedding gift. You must have a house and a car. The wedding must be held at a five-star hotel. Doris can’t just

marry you casually like this.

“If you can do all that, I'll recognize your marriage and accept you as the Reed family’s son-in-law. We'll be

family from then

on.”

Lewis found these demands so ridiculous that he almost laughed. He thought, ‘Family? Is this old man even

worthy?’

“I know you have a house and a car, but they're not impressive enough. | won't ask you to upgrade them. Just

give a little more money to us as a gift-three million should be enough.” Jimmy held up three fingers.

His schwas simple-he planned to use this money to pay off Ryan's debts. If this debt was solved, he

wouldnt have to

worry anymore.

“Letbe honest with you-I don’t even have one million dollars to spare. And even if | did, | wouldn't give it to

you.” Lewis rejected Jimmy's unreasonable demand. “Doris and | are the ones living our lives. As long as we're

happy, that’s all that

matters.

“This is an outrage.” Jimmy slammed the coffee table and stood up, pointing at Lewis as he cursed, “Doris must

have lost her mind to marry you.”

“She’s much smarter than you.” Lewis stood up, not bothering to linger, and walked away.

Failing to get what he wanted, Jimmy was furious.
