The word “again” was practically spat out, dripping with frustration. Sofia’s eyes widened in shock. Stephanie
and Sebastian exchanged uneasy glances.
Sofia’s mind raced back to why Maxwell had taken her from the courthouse in the first place-because she had hit
Dan and had to compensate. She had accepted that, since she was the one who threw the punch. But this time,
it wasn’t her fault.
She sneered, “What? You wantto pay again? Letbe clear, if someone else did it, I'm not paying.”
Maxwell's tone turned colder. “It wasn’t you, but you're responsible too.”
Sofia’s mind went blank. ‘What kind of logic is this? Who divides responsibility like that? They are either idiots or
total
nutcases.’

She took a deep breath and asked, “Who did the beating?”
“Mr. Richard Casalini, the guy you're supposed to marry, cto the hospital and attacked our boss.” Maxwell's
voice started off angry but quickly escalated, trembling with emotion.
“What?” Sofia was surprised. Her mind reeled. ‘Oh wow! This news is kind of unexpected. But hey, isn’t this
fantastic news?”
When she had seen Richard being attacked at the courthouse, she had thought Dan was in deep trouble. This
was Fiorenza, after all. No matter what status Dan had in Sandara, Richard was the local powerhouse here.
She thought, ‘Even the most powerful outsider can’t take down the local leader. He totally deserved it.’
Seeing Maxwell so furious, Sofia quickly adopted a rational tone. “Since you attacked him today, and given how
vengeful he is, he’s definitely going after you. Honestly, you kind of asked for it.”
When Maxwell had confronted her earlier, he had even brought serious weapons! Even Richard, who had been at
a disadvantage in front of Sebastian before, had managed to land a couple of hits. Given Richard's temper, he
was definitely going to settle the score.
Maxwell's voice turned angry. “Ms. Giovanni, you need to understand which side you're on.”
“What do you mean by understanding which side I'm on? Do you even listen to yourself?” Sofia retorted.
She sneered in her mind, ‘Has Dan even ended things with Elena? He expectsto side with a man who's
planning to marry another woman?“
“If you ask me, Richard should just beat you up too. Maybe a beating will knock ssense into you,” she
added, her voice dripping with sarcasm. No one in their right mind would say something like that.
Seeing Sofia suddenly get angry made Maxwell even more anxious, gritting his teeth. “Look, our boss just forgot
about you. Any harm he did wasn’t intentional. You can’t let anyone beat him up.”
“Tell him to head back to Sandara and just be the mayor quietly. Stop making a fool of himself,” Sofia snapped
and hung up.
To her, it was clear Dan was pretending. Using amnesia as an excuse, wanting to have it all-it was so gross. Her
anger simmered, making her feel physically ill.
Sebastian casually held Stephanie's head close to his chest and asked nonchalantly, “Dan got beat up?”
“Yeah, and his right-handed man said he lost his memory, claiming whatever harm he caused wasn’t intentional,
and | should side with him,” Sofia grumbled.
She added, “Seriously? Total nonsense. If you ask me, Richard went too easy on them. None of them got it.

Hearing Sofia’s complaints about Richard, Stephanie and Sebastian felt a wave of relief. Their biggest fear was
that Sofia would suddenly say she wanted to visit Dan. Now that would've been seriously crazy.
Sofia was fuming, on the verge of saying something, when her phone rang-it was Richard. She answered
irritably, “What do you want?” She was still seething over the whole Dan situation, wondering what was so
important that Richard must call her
now.
Richard really wasn’t putting up with any nonsense anymore. Perhaps it was because he’d been bullied by
Sebastian for so many years and had finally had enough. He didn’t even let Dan’s humiliation linger overnight.
Just over lunch, he managed to settle the whole matter.
Richard said, “I'm at the courthouse entrance. Cover.”
“What for?” Hearing that Richard was at the courthouse made Sofia’s heart skip a beat.
Richard replied, “Trying to get married again.”
Sofia was shocked and thought, ‘Really? Still getting married after all the mess?”
