Chapter 211 In the mirror's reflection, Serena watched as Bella crept toward her, clutching a wooden stick in trembling hands.
"Do you really think you can killwith that?" Serena's voice was calm, almost bored, as she lowered her gaze and continued washing her hands at the sink.
Bella startled so badly that she dropped the stick, the clatter echoing in the tiled bathroom. Only then did she seem to remember the large mirror above the sink- and that Serena had seen her coming all along.

Bella's eyes widened in panic. "What are you going to do? If you lay a finger on me-I swear, I'll tell Mom to cut you off for good!" Serena couldn't help but laugh at that. After her father was gone, nothing had terrified her more than the thought of Penelope casting her out, leaving her truly alone in the world. Every tBella made that threat, Serena would surrender- handing over whatever Bella wanted, even her most treasured possessions.
But those days were gone. She'd grown up. The threat didn't matter anymore.
Bella bristled, unnerved by Serena's indifference. "What are you laughing at?" Her tone was sharp, but Serena didn't flinch. Bella had noticed the change. On her last visit, Serena had still seemed a little like her old self. Now, her eyes were icy and remote, like a machine with the feelings stripped out.
What if Serena turned out like Gabrielle-what if she snapped and hit her again? As Serena stepped closer, Bella cowered, shielding her head with her arms. "Stay away from me! You-you murderer!" Serena froze. "What did you just say?" Peeking out from behind her arm, Bella saw that Serena had halted. Emboldened, she sneered, "You killed your own father, remember? Maybe you've forgotten, but the rest of us haven't. You're ungrateful-he died because of you!" Serena's voice turned cold as ice. "Say that again." "I'll say it a hundred times, a thousand-uh-" Serena's hand shot out, gripping Bella's throat.
Bella gasped, clawing desperately at Serena's wrist, panic flooding her eyes as she struggled for breath.
Serena's gaze was unyielding, her words sharp and deliberate. "I dare you to say it again." The terror of dying washed over Bella. Tears streamed down her face, but she couldn't make a sound. “Se... Serena... please... don't... kill me... I don't... know anything..." But it was too late. Bella's taunts had flung open the floodgates of Serena's memory; images flickered through her mind in a relentless torrent- -Dad, will you chfor my birthday this year? Please? -You promised you'd cback, Dad! Why didn't you? I don't care, I just want to see you! -Serena, stop crying. Daddy has to go. It-it's not your fault. Remember... Daddy will always love you...

-Serena, you're a murderer. If it weren't for you, your father would still be alive. How could I have a daughter like you? "Serena!" A frantic voice cut through the haze.
Serena jerked back to reality and saw Bella's face, ghostly pale, her body growing limp as her strength faded away. With a start, Serena released her grip.
But her own hands were shaking, her eyes fixed in horror on the red marks blossoming across Bella's throat.
