Volume 3, Chapter 23: Flander of Human Furniture③

「T-Thank you very much… but who are…?」

Crouching on the ground like a turtle after being trampled, Alante asked this to his benefactor who appeared out of nowhere, a man clad in full-plate armour―Lambert.

Alante experienced the toughness of Flander’s human furniture firsthand just a moment ago, so he knew what kind of superhuman feat Lambert just accomplished.

They were so tough to the point that they could still recover from deadly poison and losing parts of their heads.

Lambert managed to slay them in a single slash, undoubtedly making him an exceptional man.

「You… ain’t your average Joey, eh. I never expected that I’d meet someone who could easily slay my 『Desk』.」

From above the 『Chair』, Flander looked down on the man who slew the vanguard of human furniture.

The man in full-plate armor glared back at Flander as he readied his greatsword.

「W-Wait, don’t be so angry. The desk that you cut down just now was the best product of this genius me. Daring to destroy such a work of art, you deserve to die… There’re still so many things that I want to say, but I’ll spare you just this once.」

As if ignoring Lambert, Flander made a shooing gesture.

It was as if he didn’t want to fight Lambert.

But just then, Flander suddenly laughed loudly till his gums could be seen.

「WONDERFUL! I CAN FEEL IT! THAT ELEGANCE, THAT MAJESTIC AIR, THAT PROUD APPEARANCE, AND THAT TALL FRAME! I UNDERSTAND ALL OF IT! YOU WILL BECOME FURNITURE! I DECIDED YOU’LL BECOME PART OF MY COLLECTION! NO, YOU CAME BECAUSE YOU WANTED TO BECOME FURNITURE, RIGHT?! RIIIGHT?!」

Flander’s eyes opened wide, and he spread his arms as he gave such a fervent speech.

Madness dwelt in his eyes.

「How is it? You also want to become part of my collection, right?! RiIIIGHT?!」

Flander shouted loudly, scattering a rain of saliva in the air.

Alante’s face paled upon seeing Flander’s insanity.

Although Alante knew that Flander was just like the other members of his group—an existence impossible to comprehend using commonsense—only then did he realize that Flander was the most delusional madman in 『Angel of Death』.

The origin of Flander’s strange fixation on turning humans into his furniture became apparent in his expression.

He truly believed that humans should be turned into monsters with those strange shapes.

Even if Alante was trembling in awe upon seeing that, Lambert didn’t seem to be perturbed by it.

「Well it’s simple then, not that I expected something decent from you lot.」

Lambert moved first.

That action alone was enough to make the mad expression on Flander’s face falter a little bit.

Although he witnessed Flander’s madness firsthand, Lambert simply didn’t care about it.

Flander hit his hand on his forehead.

「Were you overwhelmed by my stroke of genius? Were you overwhelmed by the pressure to become a work of art? That’s… impossible!」

Madness returned to his eyes.

「GO, 『SHELF』! CATCH HIM!」

The fat and armless woman with bandages covering her face rushed toward Lambert.

Lambert kept running while readying his greatsword.

He ran straight toward 『Shelf』, planning to cut her down before continuing to Flander.

‘This one is fatter than the previous guy… Bigger and fleshier indeed, but it isn’t a big deal.’

Lambert put more strength into his arms as he prepared to slice 『Shelf』 in a single strike.

「Sure enough, movements typical of a swordsman…! I know the limit of humans, and I’ve surpassed it. But then, power and speed alone aren’t enough to decide a victor!」

「OGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!」

Something like a large number of arrows exploded from the holes in 『Shelf』 body, arriving right in front of Lambert in the next moment.

The storm of pointed metal arrows rushed toward Lambert, who was swinging his sword.

The holes in 『Shelf』 body were angled toward Lambert, aiming to reap the latter’s life.

「HAHAHA! Surprised? 『Shelf』 can store many things. I didn’t want to leave a scar on your body, but catching you unscathed is impossible after all!」

Lambert exposed his back a little then swung his sword with inhuman speed.

His swinging speed was so fast that an ordinary person wouldn’t be able to see it.

The blade of the greatsword cut apart one metal arrow after another.

The pieces of broken metal scattered under his feet.

「W-What’s… happening?」

Flander muttered with a dumbfounded look on his face, unable to understand what just happened.

The 『Shelf』 that fired metal pieces from her body stood rooted in place.

Lambert’s greatsword was raised overhead again.

He was about to sever her body just like he did to 『Desk』.

Suddenly, two giant blades came out from 『Shelf』’s fat body.

…One from the chest and one from the abdomen.

The two giant blades came toward Lambert like a guillotine.

‘She unleashed 『Decapitation Scissors』, eh. What a shame, even though he is such splendid furniture material…’

Lambert heaved a sigh as he looked at the blades that came out from 『Shelf』.

『Shelf』’s trump card, the 『Decapitation Scissors』, would be triggered automatically when 『Shelf』 was cornered.

Those blades were sent at a speed that far surpassed the limit of human reflexes.

Thus, it was a sure-kill technique that would definitely reap the other party’s life in a swift, single strike.

No one could escape from the reaper’s scythe.

Soon, the two figures collided.

Then a rain of black blood began to pour down.

「Ogogogogogogogogo.」

『Shelf』’s upper half released strange scream as it was sent flying in the air.

All that Flander could see was his poor 『Decapitation Scissors』 broken into pieces, falling on the ground.

「…Eh? What?」

Lambert didn’t stop. He ran straight toward Flander as if countering and destroying a sure-kill move was no big deal to him.
