Chapter 587 Downhill
"For me? You sure it's not for yourself?" Alfred sneered. "You claim to do this for my benefit, but really, you’re just
upset because you won nothing out of this pointless struggle."
He wasn't an idiot. Years of living with Mortimer Faust had let him see the true ugliness the man possessed. Even if
Alec really did die, the Faust Group would never belong to Alfred. Not until a century later when Mortimer died, at
least.
Mortimer's face immediately fell. "What the hell do you mean?’
"Oh, nothing at all, just that I hope you don’t use me as an excuse for every power struggle you have in the future."
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAlfred rolled his eyes. "I'm not interested in the Faust Group anymore."
"Not interested?" Mortimer stared at him in disbelief.
"Yeah. I'd rather spend the time trying to steal it from Alec on managing my own business. If Alec Faust can have
his Faust Group, why can't I have mine?' Alfred was sure he was just as capable as Alec.
Mortimer gaped in shock, then, upon realizing Alfred wasn't joking around, demanded, "Are you serious about this?’
Alfred nodded.
"You want to start a business empire like the Faust Group from scratch, and with what, huh? What do you have in
hand to even try?" Mortimer wasn't trying to burst his bubble. He just thought his son wasn't being realistic.
Alfred was unperturbed by Mortimer's questioning. "That's something you don't need to worry about."
"Wake up, Alfred Faust! You could never accomplish this!’ Mortimer yelled.
"I am wide awake. That's why I'm not interested in stealing what belongs to someone else.’ Neither their company
nor their women.
Mortimer raised his hand to smack his son when Alfred caught his wrist in a vice grip. "You're not fit to try and
'educate' me yet."
"Not fit? I am your father! I raised you since you were a baby. I gave you more love than I ever gave Alec!"
Mortimer roared, pissed.
Alfred remained unmoved. "What love? When did you ever love me? You don't think you were a good father just
because you abandoned your family to come and be with my mother, do you? You were a terrible parent and
husband, always blaming her for leaving your own family when you were the one who wasn't responsible enough to
deal with your own mistakes."
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmSince Alfred could remember, Mortimer had never been a good father to him nor shown him much love. All he
remembered was that the man often got into fights with his mother. Each time, her mother lost, growing
speechless whenever Mortimer blamed his leaving his first marriage and his family inheritance on her.
Alfred's mother had left her husband and children too, but she never raised that in their arguments. Maybe she
thought Mortimer was the greater victim between the two, but Alfred had never felt the same. Heck, he could even
see why Alec despised Mortimer Faust. Still, that didn't mean Alfred would ever side with Alec.
Mortimer was left glaring speechlessly at his son's words. He never expected his life to come to this. Neither the son
he abandoned nor the son he chose wanted him. In fact, both despised him to the core.
He huffed a weak laugh, feeling like he had played himself the fool.
"One mistake, and everything just goes downhill," he sighed to himself, then left.
