Whitney jumped at the sudden voice and spun around. Larry was standing right behind her, his eyes sharp and
cold as they bore into her. Her heart skipped a beat, but she quickly forced a smile. “What are you doing here?”
Larry didn’t answer. His stare stayed locked on her, and his voice was low and threatening. “I've been busy.
Don’t cause trouble forright now.”
Whitney's heart clenched. Her smile stiffened for a second before she regained her composure and replied with a
breezy tone, “Of course. I'll behave.”
Larry gave her a final icy glance, the warning in his voice unmistakable. “You'd better.”
With that, he turned and walked out of the Houston estate.
Whitney stared after him, finally letting out a long breath when he disappeared from view. If he ever found out
she'd hired people to kill Sloane, she'd be completely screwed.
Her eyes darkened at the thought. “Why the hell aren't you dead yet, Sloane?”

Larry's driver saw him coming and quickly opened the door. Larry got in, his expression still cold, brows tightly
furrowed.
The driver glanced at him through the rearview mirror and asked carefully, “Mr. Larry, where to next?”
“Back to the office,” Larry replied curtly, pulling out his phone and calling his
assistant.
The call connected almost immediately. “Mr. Larry, what can | do for you?”
“Still no word on Sloane?” Larry’s voice was flat, but a sharp edge ran beneath it.
“Not yet, sir,” the assistant replied cautiously.
Larry's eyes darkened. “Keep looking. | don’t care what it takes. Find out where she

“Yes, sir. I'll assign more people to the search.”

Larry paused, then added, “What about Lucas? | heard he hasn't shown up in four days.”
The assistant hesitated. “That's correct. Mr. Hawthorne hasn’t been seen at all. There are a few rumors floating
around inside the Hawthorne Group, but we haven't confirmed anything. I've got people looking into it, but so
far, nothing solid.”
Larry’s gaze narrowed, and his tone grew colder. “Lucas doesn’t disappear for no reason. Something happened.
Keep digging until you know exactly what.”
“Yes, Mr. Larry.”
After ending the call, Larry leaned back against the seat, his eyes fixed on the window. Lucas vanishing without
warning smelled like trouble-especially with the two of them neck-and-neck for the Peak Corp partnership. Lucas
was decisive by nature. There was no way he'd step away at such a critical moment unless something had gone
very wrong.
“Could he have blacked out again?” Larry muttered to himself. Six months ago, Lucas had collapsed without
warning and been unconscious for days. If something like that had happened again, then this was the perfect
opportunity.
A slow smirk spread across Larry's face.
He picked up the phone and called his assistant again. “We've planted a few people inside the Hawthorne Group,
haven't we? Tell them to start spreading rumors about Lucas being in a coma. Stir things up. The more noise, the
better.”
Larry narrowed his eyes. “If he’s fine, he'll show up to stop it. If he doesn’t... then we've got our answer.”
“Yes, sir. I'll take care of it immediately.”
Larry ended the call, eyes gleaming with calculation. Leaning back in his seat, he

had already begun plotting how to use this window of chaos to snatch the Peak Corp deal once and for all.
