Upon leaving the hospital waiting room, Cedrick took Charles to the pediatric ward where Benedict was.
Gwendolyn was sleeping right beside Benedict’s bed.
She had been having a hard time because of the intense sex that night before boarding the plane. It was Cedrick’s
massages that morning that made her waist and back feel much better.
Yet, the second she arrived in Salinsburgh, she found out about Benedict’s condition, which made her worry the
entire day. Only Cedrick knew how tired she was.
He could not bring himself to wake her up, so he tiptoed over and draped a thin quilt over his wife’s slender
shoulders.
Then, with great caution, he leaned over and planted a gentle kiss on her cheek.
Gwendolyn was so sound asleep that she did not stir.
Charles stood by the door and watched the entire scene. He lowered his blue eyes to hide his emotions.
When the two men exited Grand Valley Hospital, they went straight to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Since it was late at night, only a few police officers were working overtime in the building.
Even Nico, who was already asleep, rushed straight to the Federal Bureau of Investigation when he heard that
Cedrick was heading there because of Benedict’s incident.
By the time Cedrick and Charles arrived at the entrance in the luxury car, Nico had already been waiting for quite a
while.
Standing in the cold wind, Nico rubbed his hands and hurried forward to open the door for Cedrick.
“How’s Benny, Cedrick? Is he doing all right? I heard it has something to do with the baby formula,” said Nico, his
drowsiness dispelled when he saw Cedrick’s stern face.
Instead of answering the questions, Cedrick asked, “Why are you here?”
“How can I sleep when someone’s trying to harm my cute nephew? I heard you were coming, so I came over, too.”
Cedrick looked as indifferent as ever, not the slightest bit surprised by Nico’s words. Patting the latter’s shoulder, he
said, “It’s hard to say for now. Whether or not there is any biochemical virus residue left in his body can only be
found by bringing him to the lab when he’s older. The challenge for now is his heart problem. Gwenny has been
staying by his side all night.”

“Mdm. Yarde’s taking care of her at home.”
Nico frowned. He quickly took out his phone and launched WhatsApp to send a text. “I’ll get Summer to go over and
keep Zendy company for the night. It’s more reassuring to have someone we know to take care of Zendy.”
After all, something serious had happened this time.
Although it was Zoey who discovered the problem with the baby formula, Nico was not willing to trust anyone other
than his family until the truth had been discovered.
Having no objections, Cedrick headed straight into the building.
Charles got out of the back seat and followed Cedrick inside.
When he passed by Nico, Nico, still typing his text, stopped him and teased, “Mr. Newton, aren’t you in charge of
Newton Group now? How can a busy man like you have time to visit the Federal Bureau of Investigation?”
Charles narrowed his eyes and smirked. “I’m not here as a criminal this time. I’m here to help Mr. Jenson
investigate the case.”
Nico clicked his tongue. “There must be something wrong with you. You should be sleeping instead of helping to
investigate a case at this hour.”
The diss that was hurled at Charles out of nowhere annoyed him. Frowning, he countered, “I could say the same for
you. You’re here instead of sleeping, too.”
“It’s my duty since I’m the deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Besides, Benny’s my nephew. It’s
only right for me to be here.”
Charles chuckled. “I’m Benny’s godfather. I came here today because Mr. Jenson invited me. Technically, that gives
me a better reason to show up here.”
The information stunned Nico, and he turned around to look at Cedrick who was focused on making his way
forward.
Cedrick did not so much as turn around or say a word. It was as if the other two were as invisible as air.
However, Cedrick’s lack of retort meant that Charles was telling the truth.
Nico curled his lips into a mischievous smile and patted Charles on the shoulder. “Not bad. The fact that you’ve
gotten Mr. Jenson’s trust shows that you’ve really turned over a new leaf.”
With an icy cold expression, Charles shrugged off Nico’s hand in an elegant manner.
“Don’t bring up the past when I’m still talking to you nicely here. If you insist on doing that, then don’t blame me for
arguing with you the whole night. I’m sure your subordinates would love to know about their superior’s dark
history.”
Immediately, Nico’s expression darkened, and he glared at Charles in silence.
Right when the tension at the door reached its peak, Cedrick, who was already way ahead of the other two, turned
his head slightly. “Are you here to bicker or to work? If you two can’t bear the sight of each other, I’ll let you two
fight it out when we’re done with everything. Whoever loses will have to shut up.”
Charles froze and immediately fell silent.
Nico raised his brow and followed the other two into the building, joking, “That’s a brilliant suggestion. As the ex-
leader of the Central Intelligence Agency, Mr. Newton surely has great skills. When should we have a match?”
Although Nico had never fought Charles before and had no idea who was more powerful, his skills had been
improving.
On the contrary, Charles had been living comfortably abroad for almost a year, making him not as good of a fighter
as he used to be.
Nico was ninety-nine percent sure that he could defeat Charles.
He figured Charles would refuse to fight because he knew his limits.
But to his surprise, Charles agreed calmly, “Sure. Once this matter is over, I’ll have a match with you. And if we’re
to fight, we need to place a bet to make things more interesting. Otherwise, I won’t agree to it so easily.”
Charles fixed his blue eyes on Nico for some time before he quickly followed Cedrick.
Staring at Charles’ arrogant back, Nico snorted. “You don’t think you can actually beat me, do you?”
Taking steady steps, Charles lifted his chin slightly to reveal the charming features that contributed to his
demeanor.
Seeing the two being so serious about the bet, Cedrick piped up, “Nico, if you lose, you’ll be humiliating the Federal
Bureau of Investigation. If that happens, I’ll send you back to the training camp for a week of intense training. Not

Nico was stunned. Boss is so cruel.
Nico had never been punished under the Jenson family’s rules ever since he joined the family.
He straightened his back and promised, “I won’t lose. If I do, I don’t deserve to be the deputy director of the
Federal Bureau of Investigation.”
Charles said nothing in response, but there was a twinkle in his blue eyes.
He did not think he would lose to Nico as well.
The two followed Cedrick into the office.
Since Nico was present, Cedrick ordered, “Look into PureVita Group’s baby formula sent to the Jenson residence for
the past month. I want the batch numbers, time, and name of the delivery person, as well as the serial number of
every baby formula Benny and Zendy had. Get me all of these records as soon as possible.”
“Got it, Cedrick.”
Nico turned around and left to carry out the orders.
Since it was late at night, PureVita Group’s baby formula factory was not in operation. It allowed Nico to get the
information needed from the person in charge quietly.
Cedrick had not revealed the fact that the baby formula was the suspect of Benedict’s condition in case someone
would be up to no good. That was also why he had rushed over to investigate the matter that night itself.
While waiting, Cedrick sat on the couch and brewed himself some coffee.
Charles smiled at how elegant Cedrick’s movements were. “There’s nothing that you don’t know, huh?”
The entire office was filled with the subtle fragrance of coffee.
“When there’s a will, there’s a way. There’s nothing I can’t do as long as I put my mind to it.” Cedrick offered
Charles a cup of coffee. “Want some? It’s easy to feel sleepy at night.”
Charles took the cup and thanked him.
As the aromatic coffee flowed down his throat, Cedrick pursed his lips and asked, “You’ve been involved in this
matter from the beginning. Do you have any suspects?”
Charles looked up. “Am I really allowed to voice my suspicions?”
