Chapter 506 Drag Him Down With Me
Craig froze.
His swollen left cheek seemed to have dampened his air of regality.
He bore a striking resemblance to Charles. The feature that separated them was the color of their
eyes.
Charles’ eyes, piercing blue like sapphires, made him look like a foreign prince. He was handsome
with an air of mystery about him.
Craig’s eyes, on the other hand, were dark brown. Razor sharp, he looked striking and righteous,
However, it was his features that gave one the misleading illusion of impartiality.
He cackled instead of answering the question. “I’ve lost. A life sentence in maximum security will
drive one mad. I ask you, Cedrick, for a painless end.”
“Do you want to die so badly?”
Cedrick relinquished his grip on his sleeve, then produced a wet napkin and wiped his hands with the
air of a gentleman who had touched something filthy.
That’s not up to you. Matricide is no trivial crime. I will get to the bottom of this even if you refuse to
be me anything. If I find out you did it, I will make sure you’ll suffer before you face the firing squad.”
Craig’s smile froze. “You’ve always been this cruel. Being your deputy all these years, I can’t believe
you wouldn’t show me any leniency for all the times I gave everything for you.”
“Still stubborn. I see.”
Cedrick scoffed incredulously. “If only you succeeded in any of the times when you tried to sabotage
me and usurp my position, but you did not. For me to have only punished you for each of those
transgressions had been my repayment for what you’ve done for me. I have been lenient with you
long enough. Your greed knows no bounds. You just keep taking
He waved a hand, and the soldier outside entered with a bucket of water.
There were five canes soaking in the bucket. Slick and supple, they were specially prepared for Craig
“I will make you pay for every single thing you’ve done. For the key to the top floor of your house,
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtyou punished Charles based on your familial laws and broke two canes. He asked that five strokes be
returned to you. We will start from that.”
Two more soldiers, clad in uniforms, entered. They swiftly untied Craig only to tie his wrists behind
his back. As the rope was connected to a hook above his head, Craig was hoisted up with his toes
barely touching the ground.
The other soldier picked up a cane, raised it high above his head, and brought it down with his full strength.
Crack!
The cane landed on his skin with a sickening crack.
Craig grimaced slightly as he endured the blow without a sound.
Cedrick watched, his dark eyes betraying no emotion.
The whooshes of the cane reverberated throughout the interrogation room, one after another, but Craig began
laughing maniacally.
“Charles is not as simple as he appears, Mr. Jenson. He has harmed you badly once, and then he helped you. Who
knows what the next time will be?”
Cedrick listened without a word. Impassively, he turned to leave.
“Now that I’m deposed, the Newton family is left without a head. Do not under any circumstances help him. Power
is like a drug. You’ll never wrench yourself free from it after a taste. Who knows? Charles might even turn out to be
another me. I’ll be waiting to witness that. I’m not a good person, and neither is Charles. You will regret it if you help
him in securing power over the Newton family.”
Craig’s laughter rang in his ears until he exited the interrogation room.
His repeated accusations of Charles sounded as if he is determined to drag his brother down with him.
After the soundproof metal door slammed shut, the place fell silent again, devoid of the deranged howls.
With his gaze straight ahead, Cedrick walked along the corridor of the interrogation room.
When he passed Charles’ cell, he stopped, glanced at the door, and walked on instead of entering.
Caylie’s death is a difficult case to solve.
Even after retrieving the glass tube buried in the backyard of the Newton residence, they could not locate a similar
poison. Craig, too, refused to cooperate.
He had tried the carrot and then the stick, but to no avail. Craig had given up and only wanted death.
Aside from his imprisonment of Caylie and hypnotizing her, Cedrick had enough to charge with his matricide.
As those who acted under the influence of hypnosis had no control over their actions, they would only obey the
hypnotist’s orders.
It did not matter if Caylie had self-administered the poison in the act of suicide or if Craig had done so with the
intent to murder. He could not escape the sentence.
After gathering all the evidence, Nico handed it to the superiors.
It took at least a week to await the verdict. During the interval, the position of deputy director of the Federal Bureau
of Investigation would be left vacant. He was voted out of the position of CEO of Newton Group by the board of
directors, and the position of the person in charge of the Newton family was also
left vacant.
Many business owners of enterprises under Newton Group had rushed back from the neighboring districts and
abroad as the Newton family was about to face a crisis of a power struggle.
With Treyton fanning the flames in regard to Craig and making headlines, the latter would become the most
condemned sinner on the internet.
Creak.
The steel doors to the secret interrogation room swung open. Clad in threadbare clothing, Charles emerged slowly.
As they were in the countryside, the warm sunlight streamed through the trees and fell onto him.
He reached out his hand to catch the dots of light. His piercing blue eyes seemed to be filled with
stars and seas, vast and deep.
Nico folded his arms with an indifferent air. Upon seeing the man still smiling as if he knew something
the other did not, he could not help teasing. “Mr. Jenson is still on it. You’ve only been in here for
several days, Charles. Why do you look as if you haven’t seen the sun all year?”
Charles nodded, “I have been in here only for a few days, but every day felt unbearably long for the
fear 1 lived in. Now that the issue with Craig is coming to an end, I feel much better.”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“You do sound sincere.” Nico walked over, ruffled through his pocket, and produced a pack of
expensive cigarettes.
“Would you like one? I don’t often offer others a good smoke like this. You should count yourself
lucky”
He spoke pridefully. His lips curled.
Aside from his ingratiating attitude toward Cedrick, he was usually that arrogant.
Charles accepted it with a smile. “Thank you. I would never have expected to have the leader of Team
Four of the Federal Bureau of Investigation light a cigarette for me. It’s my honor.”
“I like to be magnanimous. We’ll let bygones be bygones, but let me tell you this-Gwendolyn and
Cedrick’s marriage is solid as a rock. Don’t you think of getting involved. I can take you out of the
interrogation room and just as easily send you back here.”
With a cigarette between his lips, Nico exhaled stylishly. His tone was gracious.
Charles lowered his gaze, concealing his piercing blue gaze. His tone remained indifferent. “Of course.
1 am about to be a godfather, anyway. I’ll prepare some gifts over the next few days for little Benny
and Zendy.”
“I’m glad you thought things through.”
Nico finished his cigarette quickly and crushed the butt beneath the heel of his military boot.
“Let’s go. We’re going to the Federal Bureau of Investigation to sign a form, and you’ll be free to
return to the Newton residence.”
“No rush.” Charles turned him down. “Craig will be transferred out of the interrogation room to be
tried in court. He is my brother, after all. Before he goes, I would like to see him. Could you make
that happen?”
Nico frowned. “Only to see him?”
Charles nodded. “Don’t worry. He deserves what he got. I’m not going to rub it in. I just want to have
one last chat with him.”
Nico glanced at his watch. “Fine. I won’t have men standing watch at the door for you. Make it fast.
You have half an hour.”
