"Sometimes, the best way to heal a broken heart is to dive into a new romance to find someone who truly loves you and can smooth over the pain," said a voice that seemed to echo common wisdom.
Aurelia let out a wry smile. "I think the best remedy is to savor being single." Beverley massaged her temples. Single or not, it didn't stop people from sneaking around with a rebound.
That bodyguard, looking like the local Casanova, had the audacity to get fresh with Aurelia in public, pinching her leg under the table, stirring up a flirtatious storm.
Given his tall, athletic build, he probably prided himself on his stamina.
Wealthy widows usually had a thing for that type.
A rich dmight have set him up as a bodyguard to stick close to Aurelia, all for appearances’ sake.
She sighed inwardly, cursing Leopold in her mind. Aurelia wouldn't be in this mess if it hadn't been for his hit-and-run love tactics.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAfter all, Aurelia was the epitof virtue.
Aurelia excused herself to the restroom.
As Beverley eyed Elvis, she said bluntly, "If you fancy Aurelia, go all in, man. No more hemming and hawing." Elvis went silent. Realities had to be faced. Aurelia's son was the heir to the Stirling family, and the Stirling family would no doubt have their say about her life.
"Would the Stirling family allow her to marry into the Cooper family?" he asked.
Beverley shrugged indifferently. "If | were you, | wouldn't have any second thoughts. True love trumps all obstacles." Even though Elvis shared that sentiment, he knew Aurelia didn't return his feelings. Of the three men in her life, Arnold was the one she truly loved.
If Arnold were to divorce, she'd pick him.
So, Elvis didn't want to complicate her life further, risking their friendship.
"I've got my plans," he muttered.
Beverley sighed. This guy had too many hang-ups.
If she were in his shoes, she wouldn't overthink it. You chase after the one you like, simple as that.
Her gaze drifted to bodyguard Leopold, thinking Aurelia would be better off with Elvis than splayboy. Matching status mattered in relationships.
Meanwhile, Leopold was downing iced water to cool his simmering rage. That meddling girl wouldn't give him a break, pushing his wife into other men's arms, laying traps for him at every turn. He was this close to washing his hands off her.
Beverley's voice cut through his irritation. "Peter, how long have you been with Aurelia?" "A couple of months," replied Leopold nonchalantly.
"Who introduced you to her?" Beverley probed casually, feigning disinterest.
"The matriarch sentto protect Ms. Aurelia and the young master, Kane," Leopold responded gravely.
Beverley was surprised to hear that. Jessica had appointed him? Could it be that Jessica didn't want Aurelia to marry a stranger, so she got a toy boy to keep her company and ease the loneliness? Beverley clicked her tongue in disbelief.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThe Stirling family rules didn't forbid the heir's mother from remarrying. The regulations were ancient, from times when women were requested to remain widows. And since there had never been a divorcee matriarch in the Stirling family, Aurelia was a trailblazer, and so was Leopold for remarrying.
If Beverley had been in her shoes, she'd be unable to bear the scrutiny. No one wanted to be the first to break tradition and face ridicule.
"You're built just like Leopold. You weren't his body double before, were you?" Leopold was at a loss for words. Was he that transparent? "I did serve as Mr. Leopold's double for a while," he admitted.
"I knew it! You're a dead ringer," Beverley said with a playful stick of her tongue, feeling vindicated in her guesses.
He was nothing but a stand-in, a wolf in bodyguard's clothing.
Soon after, Aurelia returned, and they chatted idly until the party wound down, and they all headed home.
The ride was tense, with Leopold's mood casting a heavy silence over the car.
Upon arriving at the Stirling Mansion, Kane was already asleep.
Without a word, Leopold scooped the woman beside him up and carried her to the bathroom. "Attend to my bath," he commanded.
Aurelia was in shock. "Why on earth?"
