Just then, Aurelia's phone buzzed with a message on Whatfrom Arnold.
[Fredric stopped by my place earlier. | know all about him and Jelena. What's your plan?] Aurelia replied with a weary emoji, [I'm pretty torn up about it all. | honestly don't know what to do.] [You don't need to worry about anyone else. Just make the choice that's best for you. I'm always in your corner.] Arnold was certain that this was going to put her at odds with Leopold.
Leopold would surely be against the divorce. He had already set a bad example by going against family traditions and divorcing Aurelia in private. This taround, he had to uphold the ancestral mandates and mitigate the negative impact.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAurelia, on the other hand, was likely to side with Jelena. Her sisterly bond with Jelena was unbreakable, and she had always been fiercely protective of her family.
Knowing Leopold, he wouldn't easily budge.
In this world, only Arnold truly loved Aurelia. Leopold couldn't hold a candle to him.
Aurelia felt a sting in her heart. Without the comparison, she won't be sad.
The biggest difference between Leopold and Arnold was crystal clear. Arnold would back her unconditionally, always seeking her opinion first.
Leopold, however, expected her unwavering support, wanting her to be his rock, his most capable partner, without giving a second thought to her own desires.
Leopold glanced at her phone when he saw a message from Arnold, his brow furrowing involuntarily.
"It's late. Tfor bed." Aurelia pocketed her phone, "I'll go check on Kane." With that, she left and didn't return to the room.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmLeopold waited for what felt like an eternity. When he went to check on her in Kane's room, he found the door locked.
Clearly, Aurelia was miffed, and they were in for a night of sleeping apart.
Leopold was speechless. Not wanting to wake Kane, he sulkily returned to his own room.
At breakfast the next morning, Jessica brought up Jelena. "Aurelia, what do you think about all this?" Aurelia knew she'd eventually ask. She recounted the events of the party.
"Jelena had no intention of wedging herself into Fredric's marriage. Over the years, he's been pursuing her in secret, but she's always turned him down. She won't give him the tof day unless he's single. The problem isn't with her, it's with him. Even if something did happen between them, she made it clear that unless he's divorced, there would be no future, no settling for a mistress." Jessica stirred her oatmeal, a wry smirk barely noticeable on her face.
Magnolia had played these little games too, pushing Chad towards divorce. The family council shot it down unanimously, and upon realizing divorce was off the table, she cried her way into becoming his mistress.
"I'm more interested in hearing your thoughts," said Jessica Aurelia spoke truthfully, "I'm just an outsider in this, and | don't want to meddle or pretend | can influence their decisions. If Fredric truly loves Jelena, | believe nothing will stop them. Even if the family stands in the way of their divorce, he could choose to leave it all behind, to elope with her. If it's not true love, if he's not willing to sacrifice for it, then | hope he stays away from her for good and stops this chase." After all, Leopold would use his veto. Her support or opposition, what difference would it make? Jessica spoke slowly, "If Fredric really dares to leave the family, then he's much stronger than Chad ever was." Aurelia allowed herself a hint of sarcasm, "Isn't it said that true love conquers all? I'd like to see that power firsthand, seeing as I've never encountered it myself."
