Chapter 439
| soothed my hands down my jeans as | slipped my feet into my black boots. | went for comfort tonight.
Jeans, boots and my orange blazer.
“You look good babe”. Jake spoke as he slipped his arm around my waist.
“| feel a little nervous”. | had no idea why seeing as we were already over the hard part. Tonight was just dinner.
“It’s just dinner, right?”.
I nodded.
“Then you have nothing to be nervous about”. He kissed the top of my head as his arm fell from my waist.
“I'll meet you downstairs”.
| let out a big breath. He was right it was just dinner and yet | felt a little sick at the thought of it. | grabbed my
purse from the closet and gave myself another once over in the mirror.
| decided no make-up was needed and | left my hair out. | switched the light off as | made my way downstairs.
Jake and my dad were laughing at something both with a beer in their hand.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt| liked their relationship or at least where their relationship was going. | always feared they wouldn't get on.
“What's so funny?”. | asked going to the fridge and grabbing a bottle of water.
“Just going over last night's patrol”. Jake smiled.
“We may have pranked the young ones”
“We scared them a little”.
My dad added. “We have to keep them on their toes for when real situations happen”.
“You guys are mean”. | frowned. “Do you know if my auntie Claire is going to be here tonight?”.
“No idea”. My dad shrugged.
“Have you spoken to Carter at all?”. My eyes landed on Jake.
“He’s doing patrol tonight with Rocco so | wouldn't expect him there”.
“He’s doing patrol again?”, | frowned.
“Don’t givethat look”. He held his hands up. “He asked for it and | think having 2 out there is working
better”.
“Told you that weeks ago”. | rolled my eyes and put my water back in the fridge. “Should we head over now?”.
“We'll be early by ten minutes”. My dad spoke.
“I'm sure she won't mind us being early”. | sighed.
Jake locked up as my dad and | started the short walk to my grans.
The house was in darkness and George's car was missing from the driveway. Maybe they were picking up dinner?
Or they had lost track of time?
“Doesn't look like anyone is home”. Jake spoke.
“Yeah”.
| frowned. “I'll give her a call she’s maybe just running late”. It didn’t even ring, it went straight to voicemail, but
| didn’t bother leaving a message.
“Anything?” My dad asked.
“Straight to voicemail”.
“Should we just grab dinner and go home, or do you want to go out for dinner since we're all dressed?”. My dad
asked.
Was | worried that they weren't home? Had something happened?
“Let’s just go hand order in”. Hopefully everything was okay, and she would givea call later.
