However, no bullet was discharged even though the trigger had been pulled six times continuously.

After her initial shock, Winnie frowned and glared at Harold, who was standing less than two meters

away.

He didn’t seem surprised at all.

In fact, he gave Winnie a sinister grin.

“Why? Are you shocked, Ms. Vivian? I thought you were a smart woman, but I can’t believe you

assumed I’d hand a loaded gun to you. Have I ever told you that you have gorgeous eyes? However,

you’re blind. Open your eyes wide and see what this is.”

Harold smugly showed her what was in his left palm.

Winnie noticed there was a bullet lying there.

He tricked me. There is no bullet in this gun.

Unafraid, she threw the gun away. “It appears that I’m not quite as skilled as you in these sorts of

games.”

Harold let out a loud, haughty laugh as he held up his gun with his right hand and pointed it at Winnie.

His expression was one of extreme contempt and disappointment. “You’re really quite bold to be able

to stay so calm and collected in the face of imminent danger, huh? I’m sure someone else would be so

scared that they’d be peeing their pants if they were in your shoes right now. Ms. Vivian, do you even

know what you’ve done? You’ve betrayed my trust and broken the rules. How dare you try to kill me

with my own gun! That’s outrageous! Despite this, I still can’t help but admire you since I got to know

you in Lightspring. That was why I trusted you enough to collaborate with you. Little did I expect you to

blow up my factory and warehouse! Here, take a good look at this!” Harold grew increasingly emotional

as he strode to Winnie. “Open your f*cking pretty eyes and take a good look at me! Look at my face!

Look what you did to me!”

Winnie glanced at his contorted and grotesque appearance and curled her mouth into a mocking smirk,

a gesture that made it evident that she found his presence to be quite disagreeable.

“Why? Are you expecting me to apologize? You look ugly now. Will you feel better if I apologize?”

The provocation that came from her speech served only to intensify Harold’s wrath, causing his

expression to become further distorted with rage.

“Winnie Garland!” he hissed through gritted teeth. “You have a death wish!”

“Whatever you say.” Winnie didn’t seem afraid at all. She looked him straight in the eye mockingly. “You

have the gun, so just shoot me. Why aren’t you taking action? Do you need me to show you how it’s

done?”

Winnie grasped Harold’s wrist, guiding it so that the barrel of the gun was pointed directly at her

stomach.

Her lips curved up as she continued, “Just like how I fired at you earlier, shoot me until your bullets run

out.”

The icy coldness of the metal gun barrel seeped through the fabric of Winnie’s clothing, pressing firmly

against her body.

She shivered in response, feeling the chill of the metal even against the protection of the bulletproof

vest that she wore.

James had given her instructions to buy some time, so she was left with no other choice but to humor

Harold’s requests.

However, Winnie had heard three long and one short cricket sound.

She knew this was Greta’s unique signal.

Greta is here to help me.

It had been around thirty seconds since she heard that signal, but Greta had yet to take action.

Winnie realized that Greta was unable to act as she and Harold were standing in the wrong positions.

Harold had crouched down when he approached Winnie and told her to look at his face.

She had completely blocked Harold’s body.

Right now, Greta was hiding somewhere behind them.

Greta might be a skilled sniper, but Winnie doubted whether she could shoot Harold accurately given

the current circumstances and situation.

That was why she had lured Harold into shooting her and gripped his wrist.

She tugged him backward, changing their positions effectively.

Harold had no idea why Winnie did that, but he knew she was up to something.

In fact, his fingers reacted faster than his brain. When Winnie tugged him backward, he immediately

pulled the trigger again and again.

Just as Winnie said, he wanted to fire away until he run out of bullets.

However, he soon ran out of bullets after three rounds. The cartridge was empty.

The second Winnie and Harold swapped places, Greta took aim at Harold with her sniper rifle and

pulled the trigger.

However, Greta had no idea Harold’s subordinate would suddenly rush out to help Harold.

As a result, the bullet intended for Harold hit him.

The subordinate’s body slumped heavily onto Harold, and a sickening sensation of warmth began to

seep into Harold’s clothing as the man’s blood trickled into his collar. At that moment, Harold belatedly

understood what had happened.

He glowered at Winnie. “You tricked me again!”

Winnie was wearing a bulletproof vest, so her skin remained unscathed. Nevertheless, the force of the

bullets was still enough to leave her feeling sore and uncomfortable.

She wasn’t bleeding, but the pain was so excruciating that it was difficult for her to stand up straight.

Harold actually realized Winnie had donned a bulletproof vest the moment he fired the first shot, but he

was too furious and ended up exhausting his bullets.

Now, his gun was useless, and the police were behind them.

He pounced on Winnie and used his gun to smack her head forcefully.

He then pulled out a grenade from his subordinate’s corpse and tossed it over his shoulder.

In an unexpected twist of fate, Greta found herself to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and

consequently became ensnared in the powerful blast that resulted from the explosion.

She acted swiftly and avoided the blast, but unfortunately, her eyes were still exposed to the intensity of

the explosion and were injured as a result.

By the time she managed to clear the debris obscuring her line of sight, Winnie and Harold had already

vanished and were nowhere to be seen.

She dove for cover without hesitation and reported to James, “Captain Clark, the mission has failed. I

strongly suspect that Harold has brought Winnie inside the chemical plant. I’m going to head in now.”

“Wait a minute,” James replied. “His subordinates might still be inside. Reinforcements have arrived, so

don’t try to take them on by yourself.”

“But Captain Clark—”

“Margareta Lockhart, this is an order!”

“Yes, Sir!”

Meanwhile, Xavier had arrived along with the reinforcements.

Despite James’ vehement pleas for him to stay put, Xavier could not bring himself to sit around while

Winnie was in danger.
