Chapter 277 Willow knelt down and took her eldest son into her arms. "Tristan," she whispered gently, "You're only four. Only a child. I want you to discover the joys of playing with other children-innocent and carefree, with no worries in life. It's a wonderful thing." "But I want to stay at home, playing with my tablet!" Tristan decided to be honest. The playground was a foolish place. He much preferred to be writing code, mining data, and crashing overrides.
It was challenging stuff and that was exactly why he liked it.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWillow considered this. She wasn't aware that her eldest son was already an elite hacker, so it just sounded to her as though he'd becaddicted to video games, and that was why he could no longer find enjoyment in real life.
This would be a difficult conversation. "Tristan, the stuff you see in your tablet... it's all make-believe. None of it is real. The people around you, the things happening around you, that's what's real. Video games aren't everything, alright? How about this, we'll make a promise to each other: No more than half an hour on the tablet each day. The rest of your thas to be spent on reading, or playing with your siblings. Promise me?" Tristan spent a moment in deliberation. Much could be learned within half an hour.
His mother looked worried. She was obviously concerned about him.
A good son shouldn't cause his mother to worry. Tristan nodded. "I promise." "Such a good boy you are," Willow declared, relieved. "Mommy's proud of you." Lara cin through the door, having just finished shopping for groceries. She observed her daughter talking to Tristan. A strange feeling took hold of her, and she stared at her grandson. "Hmm... all of a sudden, Tristan remindsof someone... how odd. Who am I thinking of? Someone with an uncanny resemblance to our boy, here..." Lara massaged her temples, sifting through her memories. Seeing her trying so hard to figure out this mystery, Willow felt her heart leap into her throat. This was a problem! If her mother realized that these were the children of Jasper Hughes, she'd immediately seek the man out to demand a reckoning! That would be a disaster! Jasper was already engaged to marry Yelena, the daughter of the Anderson Corporation! Willow had nothing to compare against Yelena. All she had were these children. She had to keep them safe.
"Tristan's such a handsboy. He probably reminds you of smovie star you saw on TV," Willow suggested. Thanks to her quick thinking, she was able to derail her mother's train of thought.
"That's right! Smovie star, I'm certain... very handsguy, but. but I can't, for the life of me, recall a njust at present..." Still mumbling to herself about this, Lara went into the kitchen.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmTristan had expected his mother to answer that he resembled her boss at work. Instead, she'd talked about movie stars...
Why wouldn't she say that his father was Jasper Hughes? Was that the truth, or not...? Tristan was disappointed and perplexed.
"Mommy, you said you'd getfried. chicken and french fries!" Someone was tugging on Willow's sleeve. She looked down, and saw Hailey peering up at her with eager anticipation.
Only then did she remember what she'd promised her daughter, before leaving for work that morning. But Ο then, she was suddenly summoned to a gathering, attacked by Yelena, kidnapped by Xavier... Rather than not having the chance to get something for Hailey, she'd simply been so pre-occupied that it hadn't cto mind at all.
"I'm so sorry, Hailey! I was very busy, and completely forgot! I know. I'll go get it for you right now!" "Forget it. Dinner is about to be
served," snapped Lara from the doorway to the kitchen, brandishing a ladle pointedly. "You're barely m ve making enough to keep putting food on the table. We can't afford to splurge on luxuries. Most of the money you gaveyesterday has already been spent on rent and groceries. I'll need more soon."
