The owner of the voice was none other than Jonathan.
Lucio blanched the moment he heard the voice.
Meanwhile, Jonathan and Lailah sauntered into the living room.
Flashing a smile, Jonathan said, “Lucio, you might be skilled, but you're no longer young. Knowledge is power.
You'll run into trouble everywhere if you can't speak Ustranasian!” Lucio's expression was dark as he sneered, “B*stard, do you think you can kill me today?” Jonathan sighed. “That's inappropriate of you, Lucio. | showed you respect, but you're rude to me. We can't get along if you insist on being rude.” Lucio assumed Jonathan was mocking him, which was indeed the truth.
He took a deep breath. Lailah is capable. If | try to escape and turn my back to face them, they will seize the opportunity and kill me without hesitation.
An icy glint flashed across his eyes as he set his gaze on Jonathan.
‘Without warning, Lucio stomped his feet.
Countless cracks immediately spread across the ground like an intricate spider web.
He had unleashed his power as the Peacock King, and the overbearing aura was unrivaled.
His aura which was powerful enough to make people bow before him swept across Jonathan.
Jonathan was suffocating. To his horror, Lucio was charging toward him in a menacing manner. Out of nowhere, the skies and grounds shook violently.
It seemed that Jonathan had no choice but to retreat immediately.
Once he did that, Lucio would be able to flee the scene successfully.
Everything had happened in a flash. It was too sudden and unexpected.
Something flashed across Jonathan's eyes as he unleashed the Great Sage Force Field without hesitation.
The more intense Lucio's pressure was, the more Jonathan retaliated against it.
Jonathan also unleashed his Haemocore.
At that very moment, the strong vitality power rumbled and spread across his body.
Boom! Jonathan's eyes turned red as he let out a roar and executed the Rolling Thunder Punch.
Bang! Jonathan's fist collided with Lucio's. The former instantly stumbled back several steps from the impact as his vitality rumbled within his body.
Lucio also staggered one step back as disbelief filled his eyes.
Despite having only achieved the final stage of the Nascent
Soul, Jonathan was capable of defeating him, a cultivator in the middle stage of the Celestial Soul. He couldn't believe his eyes when the realization struck him.
How is this possible? Lailah was equally shocked as well.
Her heart sank when she realized Lucio had resorted to a sudden attack. She couldn't save Jonathan, and she had assumed that Lucio would be able to flee the scene successfully.
To her utter surprise, Jonathan stood in his spot and defended himself against Lucio's attack. He even managed to force Lucio to retreat.
Without hesitation, Lailah launched an attack as quick as a flash of lightning.
She was at the final stage of the Celestial Soul and launched a seemingly weak attack. However, she had gathered all the power and vitality in her punch.
It was like a highly explosive bomb—seemingly harmless
on the outside but could detonate violently and cause a massive amount of damage.
Neutralizing Force experts could shut their vital energy, causing their vitality to rumble and explode within their bodies.
Nascent Soul experts were capable of unleashing their aura to the maximum and exerting pressure on their enemy.
With their Destino Art, they could form a formidable spirit and use their vitality to create a Nascent Soul. That way, the explosion would be more terrifying.
Celestial Soul experts were able to reserve their vitality.
Their single punch would attack the enemy's body without wasting any ounce of their energy.
When a ball was floating on the water, if an ordinary human were to punch it, the force would be displaced by the water.
However, if it was a punch from a Celestial Soul expert, all the force would land on the ball without dispersing.
Lailah launched her Hammer Fist and aimed for Lucio's throat.
Lucio retreated without hesitation. He was sensible to realize how strong Lailah's punch was.
Lailah charged ahead and didn't hold back in attacking him.
She was as fast as lightning, and Lucio had no way of defending himself.
After his vitality recovered, Jonathan let out a roar and charged forward yet again.
He had five seconds of explosive strength.
As the power of Haemocore went berserk, cracks formed on the ground.
Lucio had barely dodged Lailah's attack when he sensed a force that felt as if a train was barreling toward him at full speed.
Failing to avoid the attack, he was sent flying and crashed to the ground with a heavy thud.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtBlood gushed out of his eyes, ears, mouth, and nose. He slumped and died on the spot.
Jonathan steadied himself instantly. There was a horrifying,
tyrannical aura surrounding him. He promptly calmed down and returned to his usual self.
Lailah was speechless. Jonathan is unpredictable in fights.
Despite acting on a whim, he managed to kill Lucio. Known for being the formidable Peacock King, | can't believe Lucio was knocked to his death by Jonathan.
Isaac was also dumbfounded. It was then that he realized how powerful Lailah and Jonathan were. Fortunately | didn't offend any of them.
Raul was right behind them. He immediately went to Isaac and asked, “Boss, are you all right?” Isaac replied, “I'm fine.” He paused before asking, “Why did you come back?” Hearing that, Jonathan revealed, “We were planning on going to the hospital, but Raul was worried about you. He had a feeling that something was going to happen here and asked us to stay behind. | think it isn't easy for Raul to work alone in a foreign city, so |
agreed to his request. Indeed, the enemy came here.” Isaac began seeing Raul in a different light. He patted Raul's shoulders approvingly. “Raul, | knew you have it in you.” Naturally, he didn't doubt Jonathan's explanation.
Never in his wildest dreams had he expected that Jonathan would predict the enemy's arrival.
“Please take care of the person's body, Mr. Mendenhall. We: need to take our leave now,” Jonathan said.
Isaac nodded. “You saved my life. Why don't you stay for dinner? You can leave after that.” Jonathan chuckled. “No need. We were the ones who brought the enemy here, so we're obliged to save you.” As Jonathan had made up his mind, Isaac said, “Then | shall ask Raul to give you a ride.” “Thank you. What about your security?” Jonathan reminded him.
“I shall make the arrangements. | got careless, but that
won't happen again,” Isaac assured him.
“I'm glad to hear that.” After a brief silence, he continued, “This man is Gabriel's accomplice. Gabriel's legs are crippled, so he cannot walk. Please continue investigating his whereabouts, Mr. Mendenhall.” “Does that mean Gabriel is not a threat?” Isaac asked.
Jonathan shook his head. “We can't be sure about that.
Gabriel is full of tricks. Once you locate him, don't take action instantly and let us know at once.” “Okay!” Isaac agreed readily.
After that, Jonathan and Lailah bade goodbye to him.
Raul followed them out.
He drove the car while Jonathan and Lailah occupied the back seat.
The car soon drove out of Mylers Residences.
“Mr. Lawson, are we going to the hospital?” Raul asked.
Grateful for Jonathan's help, Raul's tone brimmed with courtesy and respect when he spoke to Jonathan.
“No, we're not going to the hospital. Bring us to a nearby hotel,” came Jonathan's answer.
“Why are we going to a hotel?” Lailah blurted out.
In a stern voice, Jonathan answered, “It's Gabriel. What if Lucio sprinkled something on our bodies without us realizing it? We should get a shower and change out of our clothes. That way, we will be safe. Gabriel is a cripple, so he is no longer a threat to us. We just need to focus on finding the Sinai Bible.” Lailah got curious. “Is Gabriel that capable?” “No matter what, it's better to be safe than sorry. Am | right?” Jonathan asked.
They weren't in a hurry, after all. Thus, Lailah agreed to his suggestion.
Raul dropped them off at a nearby hotel. Then, Jonathan told him to get their luggage from the hotel they previously stayed in.
While Raul went to get their luggage, Jonathan and Lailah
each checked into their respective rooms.
After they both took a shower, Raul arrived with their luggage.
He placed their luggage outside their rooms and left.
Lailah wrapped herself in a towel and grabbed her luggage to change into a new outfit.
Jonathan did the same.
After completing all the steps, Jonathan could finally heave a sigh of relief.
He was thinking in Gabriel's shoes. Gabriel must've predicted that Lucio might run into me. That was why he stayed put. There is a huge possibility that Gabriel did something.
Jonathan had enough experience to know that some drugs could be sprinkled on humans' bodies. They were potent despite being colorless and tasteless.
He had to put his guard up.
| showered and threw away my clothes. There is no way I'll
fall for his trap. Now that Lucio is dead, Gabriel is like a toothless tiger. Even if he's full of tricks, he couldn't do anything else.
After taking a shower, Jonathan left his room to meet Lailah.
Lailah had dried her hair, so it looked soft and bouncy.
They were both clad in T-shirts. Jonathan was wearing a black T-shirt, and Lailah in white. They looked like they were wearing matching outfits.
“We haven't eaten anything the entire day. Why don't we get something to eat?” Jonathan glanced at Lailah. “We can head to the hospital after eating something.” “Sure,” came Lailah's reply. She was relieved as Lucio was dead.
Just like Jonathan, she assumed Gabriel was a toothless tiger and wouldn't be a threat to them anymore as Lucio was already dead.
They were in the middle of completing the mission, and the
mission was already closed to others. Thus, there was no way Gabriel had other helpers.
Jonathan, Lailah, and Raul had a sumptuous dinner in the hotel.
Raul insisted on footing the bill, so the other two let him be.
It was already ten at night when they finished dinner.
Without further delay, they headed to Peace River Hospital.
Meanwhile, Isaac, who assumed all the trouble had been resolved, was relaxing in Mylers Residences. Besides, he even got acquainted with Jonathan and Lailah, who were both experts. That was good news to him.
He didn't hesitate to arrange for ten bodyguards and a professional team to get rid of Lucio's body.
Being in the underground circles, Isaac had killed his fair share of people and knew how to dispose of bodies easily.
However, things didn't go that smoothly this time.
Ten bodyguards soon arrived at the living room of his mansion. A van was waiting outside, and four bodyguards
were wearing white gloves to move Lucio's body.
Isaac leaned back on the couch and puffed on his cigar calmly.
Right then, a man's indifferent voice traveled over.
“Isaac, stand up!” There was something strange about that voice—something magical about it.
Isaac had been acting normally up until he heard the voice.
The moment he heard it, it was as if he had been bewitched, and he stood up obediently.
Just as that voice sounded out, two muscular men carried a wheelchair into the place.
A pale young man sat in the wheelchair.
The young man was none other than Gabriel.
The two muscular men were Chanaeans, and they were people who Gabriel had discreetly brought over from his home country.
All Gabriel did was ask them to lift his wheelchair so that he could move around more conveniently. Therefore, what he was doing did not constitute bringing harm to his peers by colluding with outsiders.
He was merely taking advantage of the loophole in the Divine Emperor's regulations.
Nevertheless, that matter was for another time. After Gabriel entered, the other bodyguards noticed something strange.
The head of the bodyguards was a sturdy Remdik man. A cold glint flashed past his eyes as he said to his comrades, “There's something weird about him. Get rid of him!” With that said, he waved his hand and led several bodyguards to surround Gabriel.
“Kneel!” Gabriel abruptly shouted.
His bellow was as enchanting as the previous time, and it made those who heard it feel lead in their limbs and made them almost lose their balance.
Instantly, the bodyguards began to struggle.
As if they were physically fighting with people, sweat beaded on their faces.
A beat later, all of the bodyguards dropped to their knees.
‘When the two burly men beside Gabriel saw the scene, they were dumbfounded. By the time they turned to look at Gabriel, their gazes were filled with fear and respect.
However, Gabriel ignored their gazes and wheeled himself over to Isaac.
As he stared at the other man, he muttered, “Sit down.” Immediately, as if Isaac's soul had returned to him, his dull eyes regained focus again. It was then he saw Gabriel and the bodyguards who were kneeling around him.
The look Isaac had on his face was as though he had seen a ghost. When he looked at Gabriel, his eyes were filled with terror.
Meanwhile, the lights were still on in a famous hospital— built to resemble an Epean-style castle—at Yeringham despite the fact that it was already half-past ten at night.
The moon that night was round, and its cool moonlight shone on the courtyard of Peace River Hospital.
There were several lush trees in the courtyard, which, along with the moonlight and the white hospital lights, made the courtyard appear even more beautiful.
Jonathan and Lailah asked Raul to wait outside the hospital as the two of them went to Ranen's ward.
Ranen's ward was located on the third floor in the intensive care unit.
The duo were quick to reach the ward, only to find out that the door to the ward was closed.
Jonathan knocked on the door, and soon, a Yartranian woman came to open it.
The woman was in her forties, and she was Ranen's niece —Kochava.
Kochava, a curly-haired woman, was not beautiful, but she was much more graceful than other women her age.
“You're...” Kochava started curiously in Ustranasian when she saw Jonathan and Lailah.
Jonathan said, “We're Professor Horowitz's friends. We
heard about his condition, so we came to visit him.” “My uncle has no friends,” Kochava coldly responded.
“Who are you two?" Her tone was grim and stern, and any normal person would have been frightened by it.
However, Jonathan merely sneered and said, “Do you know your uncle well? How can you say that he has no friends? Professor Horowitz's already in his last moments.
He has no money and no power, so do you think we're actually planning to hurt him or use him?” Jonathan's harsh tone made Kochava freeze. She then dubiously asked, “Are you really my uncle's friends?” “Move aside,” Jonathan ordered.
His commanding tone pressured Kochava to subconsciously make way for them.
Thus, Jonathan and Lailah were able to enter the room.
Tubes were attached to Ranen's body as the man lay on
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmthe bed. His face was covered in brown spots, and it looked a little terrifying.
The professor had truly reached the end of his life.
His eyes were tightly shut, and it seemed like he was asleep.
Of course, he might be unconscious instead.
Kochava walked over to Jonathan and said, “Uncle Ranen finally fell asleep. The doctor said that he might not be able to live for more than three days.” Jonathan asked in a low voice, “Are you the only family Professor Horowitz has?” Kochava replied, “Yes. My uncle has spent his entire life obsessed with King Sergiu's treasure, so he has never dated or married. The people in our family ignore him too. | have respect for my uncle's dedication, and that's why I'm planning to settle his funeral for him.” At that, Jonathan fell deep into his thoughts.
All of a sudden, he turned to Lailah and asked, “Do you
have extra Spirit Gathering Pills with you?” Lailah glanced at Jonathan and replied, “Yes. What's the matter? Do you want to give one to Professor Horowitz?" “Indeed,” Jonathan answered. Lailah agreed, “Sure.
Although the Spirit Gathering Pill won't be able to cure Professor Horowitz's cancer, it'll let him live for a few days more.” With that, she took out a Spirit Gathering Pill from a porcelain bottle and passed it to Jonathan.
While she was taking the pill out of the bottle, Jonathan was watching her. He guessed that she still had plenty of those Spirit Gathering Pills left.
It seems like the Spirit Gathering Pills are selling like hotcakes and are a dime a dozen.
As Jonathan handed the Spirit Gathering Pill to Kochava, he said, “This is a magical pill, and it has miraculous effects. I'd like to let your uncle take it. Perhaps his condition might improve, or perhaps he might not be able to stand its effect and pass away immediately. However, I'll be
willing to pay you a hundred thousand in Anglandurn currency if he dies from consuming this pill. What do you think about it?” Kochava's eyes lit up when she heard that he would give her a hundred thousand in Anglandurn currency if anything went wrong.
She was an ordinary person, after all, so how could she not love money? “We'll have to sign a contract,” Kochava said. “I need to be responsible for my uncle.” Lailah then took out a gold card and said, “Hold onto this for now. Its password is six eights. You can check it out right away, and you can take out twenty thousand immediately. That's the limit for the ATM. If anything happens to your uncle, you can retrieve the rest from the counter tomorrow.” At that, Kochava became even more thrilled. Without saying anything, she took the gold card, turned, and left.
The room was much more peaceful once she was gone.
Lailah walked over to close the ward door as Jonathan approached Ranen to feed him the pill.
The Spirit Gathering Pill would melt once it came into contact with warmth, so they did not need to worry about whether or not Ranen could swallow it.
Atter feeding him the pill, both Jonathan and Lailah could only wait at the side.
Right then, resentful feelings washed over Jonathan, and it was because of the Spirit Gathering Pills.
Lailah has so many Spirit Gathering Pills, but she's not sharing them with me.
That was what made Jonathan upset.
Nevertheless, Jonathan's heart soon skipped a beat when he realized that it was inappropriate of him to think that way.
The Spirit Gathering Pills belonged to Lailah, and she had no reason to give them to him.
Even if she did, she would be doing it out of the kindness of her heart, not out of obligation.
Jonathan realized it was indecent of him to get upset about that.
After all, there was no free lunch in the world.
He should be asking himself how worthy he was to deserve all that instead of questioning others.
At that, Jonathan took in a deep breath and recollected himself. Shortly after, he was much more at ease.
In the meantime, Lailah had been observing Ranen.
Naturally, she would not have noticed the internal struggle Jonathan had gone through a moment ago.
Just then, Ranen finally began to react to the pill. His hand moved first. Then, he slowly opened his eyes.
His complexion slowly improved.
That was how miraculous the Spirit Gathering Pill could be.
‘When Ranen opened his eyes to survey his surroundings,
Jonathan and Lailah walked over to him.
Noticing that, he struggled to sit upright.
Lailah quickly took a pillow to cushion his back and support him into an upright sitting position.
“You're...” Ranen began in confusion.
He could not recall ever seeing Lailah and Jonathan, so at that moment, he wondered if he had dementia-caused memory issues due to aging.
“Professor Horowitz,” Lailah said in Ustranasian. “We're here for King Sergiu's treasure.” The moment those words were out of her mouth, Jonathan turned speechless. Although Lailah was powerful in terms of cultivation, her communication skills needed a lot of work. Being straightforward like that would probably upset Ranen.
After all, Ranen was still a Yartranian. Yartranians saw King Sergiu's treasure as something that belonged to them.
Unsurprisingly, a look of displeasure crept upon Ranen's
face. He promptly said, “You're not welcome here. Leave.” Lailah tensed up at that before an angry look flashed past her eyes. She was an inner disciple of Divine Realm with a bright future, so no one had ever treated her so impolitely before.
Yet, there was nothing she could do to Ranen—to a man on the verge of death.
Jonathan hastily cut in, “Professor Horowitz, there's a misunderstanding here. We're not short of money, so we're not here to greedily take King Sergiu's treasure. Like you, we're extremely interested in King Sergiu's treasure. For instance, the Sinai Bible and the legend of the Third Sacred Temple.” However, Ranen was not convinced. He muttered indifferently, “These have nothing to do with me anymore.
Please leave.” Still, Jonathan gave him a faint smile and said, “We can leave if you want us to. We're young and still have plenty of time for research. But, Professor Horowitz, you don't have
much time left. You spent your whole life researching King Sergiu's treasure but to no avail, and | don't believe you're willing to leave this world with regrets.” His words made a complicated look cross Ranen's eyes.
The mystery of King Sergiu's treasure was indeed his eternal regret. He was unwilling to die like this, but death was something a fragile and helpless mortal like him could not avoid.
Ranen swept his gaze across Jonathan and Lailah before saying, “I've been unable to come to a conclusion throughout my lifetime of research. Are you telling me that you'll be able to find something out in these few days before | die? That's impossible!” “At the very least, you should impart the knowledge you've acquired in your lifetime to us so that we can continue your research. Perhaps God will watch over you and let us find the secrets of the treasure in your last few days on earth?” A pause later, Jonathan continued, “Professor Horowitz, do you believe in God?”
Lailah glanced at Jonathan, impressed by his speech. She knew that he was about to begin bluffing his way through things again.
