S31 59. The Targets

“C-counterattack?” The informant stammered.

After straightening his back, Victor shifted Ava’s picture towards him. “There’s no point in

attacking someone who is on the verge of death. So, no need to mince words on this one.

Get rid of her. Don’t worry about her dying mother.”

The informant was shaking slightly. “O-okay, Sir.”

Raising his eyebrows, Victor tapped on Finnic. “For this one,” he pushed Mrs. Miller’s photo

forward. “It’s not just her son who is impudent, but herself too. Being her in-law is one of

the most embarrassing things in my life.”

“That’s right. All this time, I’ve forced myself to endure being around her. She’s too big of

a mouth. She deserves to be taught a lesson,” Patricia continued sarcastically.

The informant frowned. “Okay, I’ll arrange it. Then, what about the

others?”

Victor’s finger turned towards the photo of Jeremy and Vivian. However, after a while, he

had not yet made a decision.

“I heard they were separated for a long time?”

“Yes, Sir. Jeremy spent his teenage years in an orphanage.”

Victor’s eyes narrowed. His thumb was rubbing his own index finger. Mrs. Harris and her

daughter don’t get along very well either, do they?”

“Yes, Sir. They had a fight. Mrs. Harris even stabbed her own daughter

with a knife.”

“Then, we don’t need to rush. The news about Sophia is still hot. The

public will be suspicious if we act too quickly. Besides, it’s New Year’s Eve tonight.”

While putting on a stiff smile, Victor muttered, “Just let them have fun and think that the

situation is safe. The tighter the bond between them, the more exciting it will be to

separate them.”

The informant blinked. “So, when should I begin, Sir?”

“Wait a few days. After that, start by taking care of this and this.”

“What about the rest, Sir?”

Victor’s eyebrows pressed against his forehead. His eyes glanced at Patricia. “You want to

watch a great show, Darling?”

Patricia’s lips curved beautifully. “It’s been a long time since I watched a great show. Do

you want to prepare a new one?”

Victor took his wife’s hand and kissed it. “Yes, I guarantee you will like it. This performance

will be the most powerful than the previous ones.

While chuckling, Victor looked down at Louis and Emily’s round fa “Have fun, Kids. Later,

you will help me to make your father ben knee to the Moore family.”

“Woohoo! I can’t wait for the party tonight,” Louis exclaimed as he jumped out of the

limousine. Behind him, Emily followed while

giggling.

“Me too, Louis. I can’t wait to play with fireworks and blow the trumpet. This is the first

time we are celebrating New Year with our extended family.”

The little girl stood on tiptoe and stretched her arms to the maximum. Then, still with a big

smile, she turned around. Their parents were

helping Susan out of the car.

“Oh, do you need help, Grandma?” Swiftly, Emily took Susan’s hand. Kara stepped back,

handing over her duties to the little girl.

“Thank you, Emily.”

“You’re welcome, Grandma. Now, let’s go in. Uncle Jeremy and Mrs. Bell must be waiting

inside.”

While Emily accompanied Susan towards the main door, Louis looked up to see Diana. “Do

you need help too, Grandma?”

Instead of answering, Diana stepped out with her gaze fixed on the house in front of her.

The paint color, the shape of the porch, even the lights hanging from the ceiling…

everything was still the same. The longer she watched, the thicker the mist in her eyes

became.

“Grandma, are you okay?”!

Frank’s voice jolted Diana. She blinked then looked at her grandson with a sad expression.

“I feel like I’ve gone back in time. I haven’t set foot here for decad But the impression

hasn’t changed at all.” Diana’s voice was no firm as usual.

“That’s because Grandpa never did renovations. He only did maintenance so that this

house remained standing.”

With a small smile, Frank took Diana’s hand. “Are you ready to go in?

Diana was pensive. Her breath shortened, the pressure in her chest grew stronger.

Suddenly, two tiny hands caught her attention.

“It’s okay, Grandma. Grandpa Rowan is in heaven now. He’s not in there, so he can’t be

angry. We’ll just have fun.”

Again, the image of little Norman crossed Diana’s mind. Unconsciously, her grip tightened.

She forgot that it was Louis’ hand,

not his dead son’s.

“Grandma, why are you crying? Did I say something wrong?” Louis looked at Frank and

Kara who were still standing to the side.

Diana quickly wiped her eyes and rubbed her neck. After clearing her throat, she took a

deep breath.

“It’s ok

okay. I was just touched. I never thought I would be able to come. back here. Who would

think that I could attend a party at this house? With all of you. My grandchildren and

great-grandchildren.”

Louis’ smile widened again. He was relieved that he didn’t offend

Diana. He was too innocent to realize that Diana was hurt because she couldn’t insert the

word “child” in the sentence just now.

Even though she was hesitant, Diana stepped in. Frank and Kara watched her from behind,

at a distance. They deliberately gave Diana space to digest the situation, knowing that

everything might look the same, but times were different.

In the living room, Jeremy was welcoming Susan. When his eyes caught Diana’s, he patted

Susan’s arm twice and then approache

entrance.

“Welcome, Grandma,” he said stiffly.

Diana nodded briefly. Her eyes were still looking around. After a moment of silence, she

stared at the shelves lining the wall.

“You didn’t replace it?” She walked slowly and Jeremy followed.

“Yes, the wood is very sturdy. It would be too much of a shame to throw it away.” Jeremy

looked for a safe answer.

With teary eyes, Diana looked at the pictures displayed on the shelves. She did buy them

to display memories. Pictures of her with Rowan and Norman were once neatly arranged

there. Now, what could she do? Vivian and Jeremy owned the house. They have the

right to display their photos there.

Sighing faintly, Diana turned to face the sofas surrounding a small table in the middle. “It’s

not broken either?”

Jeremy nodded slightly. “The quality is good.”

Diana didn’t really listen to the answer. Her memories had drifted far away. A long time

ago, she often fell asleep there while waiting for Rowan to come home. He and Norman

often played there when

Rowan was out of town.

Suddenly, Diana choked. She quickly covered his mouth with one hand, stifling a sob. Her

other hand gripped Louis tighter.

“Grandma? What’s wrong?” Louis stroked the back of Diana’s hand.

The old woman shook her head slowly. “Nothing. I’m just happy that Jeremy is taking good

care of this house.”

While biting her lip, Diana tried to beat the tightness. However, just as she almost

managed to control herself, her gaze crossed Vivian who had just emerged from the next

room. In an instant, her anxiety was erased by curiosity.

“Is… she your mother?” she asked Jeremy.
