Chapter 300
“I won't invite you to have a seat, as time is of the essence. Let me take you to the control room now.”
“That’s great! Thank you so much.” Angeline was delighted.
Usually, only the police or senior medical officers are allowed to enter the control room of any hospital.
However, Liam was a renowned researcher at the hospital lab. and that was exactly why Angeline had come to ask
him for help.
With Liam backing her up, no one would dare to hide any information from her, and she would be able to cany out
her investigation smoothly.
At the control room, Angeline pleaded with the staff to retrieve the past surveillance footage, particularly that time
when she collected Sebastian's DNA report near the stairwell.
“This can't be it. Something is wrong. How come the footage from that day is completely gone?” exclaimed the
staff after searching for the saved file for a very long time.
Angeline's heart sank when she heard that. “Are you sure?”
A few more people came to help as soon as they heard her query. Yet, they all told her the same disappointing
answer.
Later on, Liam called up the maintenance staff and learned that the surveillance camera located at the stairwell
had been out of order on that particular day. It had taken them three long days to get it fixed.
How can there be such a huge coincidence? Someone must have done something fishy on the day I collected the
DNA report.
Angeline's eyes darkened as she bit her nails and tried to wrap her head around the matter.
Then she made a request. “We shall look in two directions. Search along the hospital entrance as well as the
hallway leading to the Department of Hematology.”
She was confident about discovering the slightest evidence as long as she checked each surveillance camera.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAngeline sat in front of the computer and stared at all the footage. It was not until nearly four in the afternoon that
she finally found a new clue.
She saw the doctor from the Department of Hematology leaving liis office multiple times between one to two that
day and hanging around the hallway while using his phone.
He was there for the longest at twenty minutes to two. At that time, he acted suspiciously and checked liis
surroundings. Then he disappeared into the blind spot.
Angeline guessed he was heading in the direction of the stairwell.
Logically, one in the afternoon is the busiest period in the hospital. Why was he so free to walk around the hallway?
Angeline whipped her phone out and invited Liam to the control room.
She then showed him the face of the suspect. Liam scrutinized the image for a while and said. “I do remember this
fellow. He was transferred from another city less than two months ago. The peeps at the Department of
Hematology love to gossip. Sometimes, they'd chatter during meetings. I overheard them saying that this guy is
quiet and rarely joins them for any gathering.”
“Sounds like an introvert to me,” Angeline muttered as a hint of wisdom flashed across her eyes, although her
expression was grim.
Since the doctor is new here, he has got nothing to lose. He'd take the bait if anyone were to bribe him.
Angeline was so sure that something was off with the doctor, but she had no solid proof. There was no way she
could interrogate him based on her suspicion.
The only thing she could do was find a way to retrieve the lost surveillance camera footage.
Liam seemed to have figured out her dilemma and offered, “I do have a friend who owns a computer shop that I
can recommend to you. Apparently, he's quite knowledgeable about this kind of stuff. I can help you contact him.”
“That's awesome!” Angeline was very thankful. The next second, she continued sheepishly, “Dr. Kingsley, you've
helped me so much. I don't even know how to repay you for your kindness.”
“Don't mention it. It's nothing.”
As they spoke, they exited the control room together.
Subsequently, Liam walked her to the elevator and then to the parking lot.
“There's only so much that I can do to help. Retrieving the lost footage isn't a small project, and it might take some
time. It's also best that you don't have your hopes up too high.” He tried to comfort her.
“It's fine. I'll wait,” Angeline responded without any hesitation.
Her eyes were filled with determination.
Since she had been unswervingly looking for her child all these years, waiting for a little while more made no
difference. All she wanted was closure.
Who on earth is orchestrating this nasty plan to confuse me?
Meanwhile, Olivine was at the golf club with her client.
She took a breather in the lounge when the client was so engrossed in the game.
Olivine was dressed casually in white. Her dark eye circles remained obvious even though she attempted to hide
them beneath her cap.
She took a sip of her watermelon juice to refresh herself, and it instantly relieved her tired eyes.
“Ms. Sherrock.” Peter, her assistant, hurried over and approached her.
“Peter?” Olivine was taken aback.
“It's been a while, Ms. Sherrock.” He nodded politely while staling at her. Worried, he asked. “You seem tired. Didn't
get any good rest?”
“Tell me about it. Thanks to that b*tch from the Golding family!” said Olivine through gritted teeth.
She was infuriated whenever that dreadful name was mentioned.
Floretta had always been her nemesis, and things had gotten worse between them since she faked her injury and
forced Angeline away. Floretta was her nightmare.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmShe would make her work tirelessly from the moment she was picked up from kindergarten. She even requested
that she make her ravioli at midnight.
Alas, when Olivine was cooking for her, she met a mishap. Her foot was burned by the hot bubbling oil. and it hurt
so much that she dared not wear high heels anymore.
As if that was not the worst, Floretta would never affirm or praise her no matter how much she had done for her.
Whenever she was displeased with Olivine, Floretta would hurl insults at her. commenting that she was not as
understanding as Angeline. In addition, Floretta remarked that Evander ignored Olivine because she was clumsy
and insensible.
How is it possible that a five-year-old can behave like that?
As a daughter of the wealthy Sherrock family, who was used to being respected and superior to others, Olivine had
endured a lot of hardships in the Golding residence.
“Why do you need to go through all these, Ms. Sherrock? What's so good about—”
“Shut up!” Olivine interrupted Peter in a cold tone and shot him an angry look. “You're in no position to talk behind
Evander's back!”
“Duly noted. I'm so sorry.”
“By the way, aren't you supposed to keep an eye on Angeline as per my instruction? Why did you come here all of a
sudden? Did something happen?”
Peter was responsible for observing each and every of Angeline's moves. Normally, he would not show up where
Olivine was unless something went wrong.
Her questions snapped Peter back to his senses. He became wary and checked liis surrounding before leaning
toward Olivine and whispering into her ear.
“What did you say? Angeline sent someone to look into the DNA report?”
Olivine got so worked up that her face turned ghastly pale.
