Gabriel let out a short, derisive laugh and set her back on the ground. “I scored,” he said coolly. “What are you so happy about?”
Sylvia was speechless.
She steadied herself and looked at the stunned group of children staring back at her, her face heating up.
Someone snickered, and then the dam broke. The children erupted in a massive wave of laughter, their mouths wide open, their
eyes crinkling into thin slits.
Sylvia covered her face with her hands. How utterly mortifying.

Just then, Jenny and Jonas ran over. Jenny's math class was next, and Jonas hadn't left yet. Seeing Sylvia and Gabriel playing with
the kids, they had eagerly rushed over to join in.
“My hero! I'm on your team!” Jenny's voice carried across the field before she even arrived.
“Your number one fan is here,” Sylvia said, her eyes crinkling with amusement.
“And herees the suck-up,” Gabriel replied, his tone flat.
The gresumed. Sylvia teamed up with Jonas and all the students, while Gabriel was paired with Jenny, who, despite being a
girl, was a decent player.
They chased each other across the field, their laughter echoing in the air. Gabriel would occasionally pause, watching Sylvia run
and laugh, a warmth spreading through his chest.
Today, he thought, might have made up for sof her regrets.
As class tapproached, Gabriel walked over to Sylvia. “Are you going to sit in on the next class?”
“Of course. This is too much fun to miss,” Sylvia said. She looked a little more disheveled than the men, with sweat beading on her
forehead and a rosy flush on her cheeks.
“It’s not Jonas’s class next,” Gabriel pointed out.
Sylvia raised an eyebrow. “What does Jonas have to do with it?”
