Theo continued, “Elyse was hospitalized today because of a fever. Were you aware?”
Jayden straightened up, his worry evident. “Is she alright?”
Theo gave a wry laugh. “Guess what they discovered during her check-up?”
Impatient with his indirectness, Jayden snapped, “Just spit it out already. Are you messing withor what?”
“Elyse is pregnant.”
Jayden froze. After a long silence, he asked with uncertainty, “What did you say?”
“You heardcorrectly,” Theo replied. “Elyse’s pregnant. But...” He paused, leaving the sentence hanging.
Growing agitated, Jayden pressed him, “But what? Just spit it out!”
Theo continued with gravity. “Her emotions have been unstable due to your disappearance. She’s unwell, and
the pregnancy is threatened. There’s a high risk of miscarriage.”
