You gotta think about both the benefits and staying safe.
After all, what's the use of living if you're broke, or having money if you're dead?

“Alright,” Liam said, understanding Michael's concerns and not pushing him. “But don’t take too long to decide.
We need tto set everything up.”
Michael's gaze grew serious. “Got it.”
Liam stood up and headed for the door.
Michael watched Liam leave and asked, “Do you think Jeffrey’s gonna catch wind of this?”
“Not a chance,” Liam replied. He'd jumped through plenty of hoops to make sure everything was airtight. “At
most, he might notice that sfolks in the extended family aren’t too happy about Rebecca being around. But
he’ll never connect it back to us.”
“Alright then,” Michael said, finally feeling more at ease.
Rebecca arrived at the Quinn Group a little over forty minutes later.
Tom parked the car and, making a show of it, opened the door for her and gave a tic bow. “Ms. Jensen,
please step out.”
Mark rolled his eyes. “So extra.”
Tom shot back, “You just don’t get it-it's called a sense of ceremony.”
Rebecca: “..."”
‘Are they really arguing over this?’ Rebecca wondered to herself.
Whenever Mark was around Tom, it was like someone flipped a switch. “Ms. Jensen's the boss now. Bosses are
supposed to be serious, capable, and all about efficiency.”
“That's just a stereotype,” Tom said, shutting the car door after Rebecca got out. “Being the boss is a title, not a
personality trait.”
Rebecca shot him a look.
Tom took the chance to press her. “Right, Ms. Jensen?”
Rebecca nodded. “Yeah.”
Mark’s brow furrowed just a bit.
‘Hold up, did | just stumble on something huge?’ Mark thought, a little stunned.

“Boss,” Mark said, eyes sincere and straightforward. “I just realized-you’ve actually got a weakness”
“What is it?” Rebecca asked, tilting her head toward him.
Mark got all serious. “You're way too easy to get tricked.”
Rebecca: “7”
Mark enunciated, word by word, “Tom’s only been your driver for half a day, and you already trust him, think

“Hey, Ms. Jensen only trustsand thinks I'm awesbecause I'm actually reliable-and honestly, I'm just a
good guy,” Tom jumped in, sounding totally confident. “Those two months as your bodyguard? That was you
puttingthrough my paces. Now, being your driver for half a day? That's you getting to know the real me.”
Rebecca nodded. “Yeah.”
Mark stared at her.
His look practically screamed, ‘See? You're already siding with him and you don’t even notice.
Rebecca wasn’t sure how she understood what Mark was saying, but since she couldn't think of a comeback, she
just switched gears. “Let’s head upstairs first. We'll talk about this later.”
No sooner had Rebecca finished speaking than a middle-aged man in shabby clothes ccharging toward her.
“You're the one who killed my son-you ran him over with your car!” he yelled.
“I don’t care how much money you have or what kind of connections you've got. Today, I’m going to make you
pay for what you did to my son!”
He cat Rebecca, swinging a knife straight at her.
It all happened in seconds, but that didn’t stop the people passing by from pulling out their phones to film the
whole thing.
“Dad!” Tom blurted out, catching him in a flash and smoothly twisting the knife out of his hand. His voice was
both shocked and a little exasperated. “Didn’t | tell you to stay hand rest? Why are you running around out
here again?”
The middle-aged man: “?”
The crowd-those folks who were ready to jump in: “?”
Rebecca: “7”
“Seriously, keep acting like this and I'll have to ship you right back to the psychiatric ward,” Tom said, locking
him down by the wrist, giving him zero chance to move. “And this time? Even if Mom and my little sis are

“Who are you calling Dad!” The middle-aged man finally cto his senses after a minute of being held down.
“Let go of me!”
“Wasn't it you two who pushedto let him out, swearing you'd keep watch?” Tom's gaze swept over the
middle-aged woman and the girl in her twenties in the crowd. He pressed, “Is this what you meant by ‘keeping
an eye on him?”
“We...” The two women stammered, stumbling over their words.
They shot each other a look.
In their heads, the sthought echoed: ‘Wait-who is this guy? Do we even know him?‘
“If he actually hurt someone, he might get off because of his mental state, but you two would be the ones
paying the price for not keeping him in check,” Tom said, his tone dead serious. “Now, get him back home.”
The middle-aged man was about to argue back.
But Tom leaned in, his voice low and calm, so no one else could hear. “Something unexpected happened. The
plan’s off.”
The middle-aged man froze, his eyes locking onto Tom's.
Tom said, “In a minute, I'll bring you over to them. You tell them what happened.”
The middle-aged man: “?”
‘Wait... is this guy actually sent by the higher-ups or something?‘ he wondered, completely baffled.
“Ms. Jensen, you guys go on upstairs first,” Tom said, giving them a look. “Letsort out this mess-I'll join
you soon.”
“Need a hand?” Rebecca asked, her mind still spinning from everything that just happened.
“No need,” Tom replied, shaking his head. “I've got this.”
Rebecca went along with it. “Callif you need anything.”
Tom nodded. “Will do.”
Rebecca and Mark couldn't help but glance back a few times before finally stepping through the doors of the
Hanson Group.
Tom looked at the three-absolutely bewildered-shooed the bystanders off, then turned back to face them.
“Didn’t you just call about going ahead with the plan?” The middle-aged man, no longer sounding crazy, now
furrowed his brows, his tone suddenly serious. “Why are you changing things all of a sudden?”
“You're asking me?” Tom retorted, and just like that, pulled out a rope and tied the guy’s hands behind his

“Gotta make it look legit,” Tom said as he finished tying the knot and handed the guy off to the other two. His
gaze swept over their faces, committing their looks to memory. “With so many people watching, you never know
if someone in the crowd is recording what happens next.”
The two women instantly stepped up and restrained the middle-aged man.
Tom pulled out his phone and tapped a few times. “Car’s almost here. Just wait a minute.”
Instinctively, the three followed his lead. “Alright.”
Ten minutes later.
The cops showed
up.
Tom handed all three over to the police. “Officer, this guy cat my boss with a knife-these three? They're all
in on it.”
Those three: “? 2 2”
“Check this out,” Tom said, showing the video Mark covertly filmed. “I've also got them on tape admitting they
were part of the whole thing.”
“You're not one of them!” the middle-aged man blurted out, too angry to think straight.
The other two shot him a dirty look-like he'd just sunk their whole plan.
Then, putting on their saddest faces, they pleaded to the cops. “Officer, we don’t even know these people,
honest!”
“We'll figure out who knows who back at the station,” one of the officers said, totally official. After reviewing
Tom's evidence, he asked, “Would you mind coming with us to give a statement?”
“Sure thing,” Tom answered. “Just gotta let my boss know first.”
The officer nodded. “Alright.”
Tom pulled up Ms. Jensen's contact and texted her right away, asking for leave.
By the tRebecca got the message, she was already sitting in the Quinn Group's reception room, with a cup of
coffee Winston had just brought in. “Mr. Quinn will be here soon. Please have a seat and wait a moment,”
Winston said.
“Alright,” Rebecca replied.
Once Winston left, Rebecca finally pulled out her phone to check the message.

Rebecca's brow creased as she checked her phone, then shot Mark a look. “How’d Tom end up at the station?”
“Instead of racking our brains trying to figure out who's pulling the strings,” Mark, clearly on the same
wavelength as Tom, shrugged, “might as well let the cops sort it out. Way easier for everyone.”
Rebecca nodded.
“Yeah, that checks out, she thought.
But...
Thinking back to the way Mark instantly pulled out his phone when Tom stopped that guy, Rebecca was starting
to get suspicious. “Did you already know Tom was going to pull something like that?”
When that dude rushed over and Tom just blurted out “Dad,” Rebecca's brain totally froze for a few seconds.
It was only when she watched Mark taking out his phone that she realized-maybe this whole thing was just
an act.
