“He’s got a mouth that never quits,” Mark quipped right back, teasing him. “If you let him stick around, forget
about ever having peace again.”
“He’s just making stuff up,” Tom countered, eagerly pitching himself. “I'm the kind of bodyguard who can spot
trouble a mile away, and when you're down or swamped, I'll be there to lift your spirits-not drive you crazy like
he says.”
Mark said, “Don’t believe him.”
Tom said, “Check out my serious face.”
Mark gave him a sidelong glance.
Tom shot him a glare right back.
Neither of them was willing to back down-every glance sparked a silent showdown, both clearly refusing to yield.
Rebecca noticed their back-and-forth, gave it a little thought, then asked, “If | bring you along, what's the point
of having you around?”
“I think fast-if you run into anyone you don’t like, I'll roast them for you,” Tom said, grinning. “But honestly, my
driving skills are way better than Mark's. I've got it covered, no matter what pops up.”
Rebecca looked over at Mark. When he didn’t argue, it was obvious-Tom wasn’t just bragging.
“Alright,” Rebecca said, deciding to give it a whirl. “You're on driving duty from now on.”
Mark blinked, completely thrown off.
Still looking baffled, Mark muttered, “Boss?”
Rebecca shot him a questioning look. “What?”
Mark squared his shoulders, his tone as serious as ever. “Just a reminder-I’'m supposed to be your bodyguard,
assistant, and your driver.”
“I know,” Rebecca said, handing him the files. “You'll still get paid.”
Mark replied, “Understood.”
Tom just stared at them, looking confused.
Tom raised an eyebrow, catching on. “Hold up, what do you mean he still gets paid? Is Mark getting paid for
something else besides just being your bodyguard?”
Mark, for once, lied. “Nope.”

Tom fired up the engine, his eyes full of suspicion.
‘Something’s not right, Tom thought to himself.

ability to handle emergencies pass the test, you'll get double pay too.”
Tom jumped at it. “Absolutely! | promise you'll have the best week on wheels ever.”
Mark turned around from the passenger seat. “Boss?”
Rebecca glanced up. “Hmm?”
Mark said, “You're being a little silly.”
Rebecca blinked, totally lost.
Tom jumped in, stirring the pot. “Hey, that’s disrespecting Ms. Jensen-deduction from your paycheck!”
“If you keep quiet and | keep quiet, nobody will ever know about the double pay,” Mark said pointedly, side-
eyeing Rebecca for her lack of business sense. “Honestly, you could hire Tom to do two jobs but only shell out for
one paycheck.”
Tom piped up, seizing the moment, “Ms. Jensen, if Mark's giving you that tip, maybe he’s angling for that bare-
minimum rate himself. Why not just bump his pay down to base bodyguard salary?”
Rebecca nodded. “Sounds good to me.”
Mark blinked twice, his usually sharp eyes now looking totally clueless.
‘Wait, weren't we talking about Tom?‘ Mark wondered, thrown off.
‘Why'd the spotlight suddenly switch to me?‘ he complained inwardly.
With all the banter flying around, Rebecca finally arrived at Meditech. As soon as she walked in, everyone
greeted her with a wave and a smile.
Rebecca swept the room, asked how everyone was doing, and then announced, “In half an hour, the tech
director, product manager, HR, and all the tech team leads, meetin the conference room.”
“Got it,” everyone replied in unison.
The meeting wrapped up in just over half an hour.
Rebecca had two things on the agenda: first, she let everyone know about a new project they'd just signed on
for, and second, she asked the teams to estimate how many extra hands they'd need to handle both projects at
the stime, so they could start hiring.
After all, with just their current staff, there was no way they could tackle that huge Riverside City project.
By the tthe meeting finished up around 10:30 AM, Rebecca was just about to ask the team when they'd

have tto break down responsibilities for the new project. But before she could get a word out, her phone
started ringing.
Noticing the call was coming from Honnala, she answered, “Hello? Who's calling?”
“It's me,” cMichael's calm voice on the other end. He'd already gotten over all the headaches Ryan gave
him these last few days. “Your uncle.”
Rebecca's brow furrowed as she returned to her office.
‘What's Michael calling about?’ Rebecca thought to herself.
“Here's the deal,” Michael said gently. “We've been talking with Richard these past few days, and honestly, we're
seriously impressed you managed to land that big project in just two months. We'd like you to cover to
Quinn Group and get familiar with the scale and how things operate here.”
“Sure,” Rebecca replied without hesitation.
‘I was bound to get to know Quinn Group sooner or later, so since Michael asked, there was really no reason to
say no, Rebecca thought.
Michael went along with it. “When are you free? I'll have Stephen set things up for you.”
Rebecca glanced over at Tom and Mark, her usual companions. “Right now.”
‘If it was just about getting familiar with the company, Michael wouldn't have bothered callinghimself. The
fact that he did means he’s probably got an agenda-he wants to use this chance to stir up something’ Rebecca
thought.
Since she had Tom and Mark with her today, if things got messy, it'd be the perfect opportunity to see what Tom
was really made of under pressure.
“Alright,” Michael replied, always keeping things civil with Rebecca. “I'll let Max know right away. When you get
to the office, someone will be there to escort you upstairs.”
Rebecca replied, “Okay.”
With that, the call ended.
Michael turned to Liam, who was sitting beside him, and said, “She’ll be dropping by in a bit.”
Liam glanced at his phone, eyes shady and impossible to read. “Looks like my little cousin is dead set on buying
back Amelia's shares.”
“Like mother, like daughter,” Michael nodded, fully agreeing with Liam. “Amelia was ambitious and ruthless- no
way her daughter is sinnocent little angel.”
“Honestly, | still think we should just take her out,” Liam said, always the cautious type.
Michael just kept quiet.

Liam already knew what went down a few days ago, so he was extra wary of Rebecca. “Jeffrey’s been bending
over backwards for her even before they'd remarried. If those two tie the knot again, Quinn Group is pretty much
gonna turn into the next Hanson Group.”
Michael knew all too well.
But Jeffrey’s not the kind of guy you want as an enemy.
If they tried pulling anything sketchy, Jeffrey would catch on before they even knew it.
“Let's wrap up today’s agenda first,” Michael said, setting his thoughts aside. “We can talk about everything else
later.”
“If we're really going to get rid of her, we'd better play the long gand set it up for the long haul,” Liam
warned. “Rush it, and we're bound to slip-Jeffrey will sniff it out in no time. You don’t want Jeffrey turning on us,
do you?”
“So, any moves in mind?” Michael asked.
Liam replied, “No concrete plan yet, but honestly-making it look like an accident? That's practically child's play.”
Michael's eyes darkened as he weighed his options, clearly not ready to make a move. “Letthink on it,” he
said, voice low.
Amelia and Ryan were the type who'd go to any lengths for revenge-they never let a single slight go
unanswered.
Jeffrey was ruthless and absolutely merciless in his methods.
One wrong move, and they could easily end up dead.
“Or we could do something behind the scenes, set her up for a crand get her forced into legal trouble,” Liam
suggested, never really planning to let Rebecca have those shares from the start-sas Michael. “But
honestly, that’s way riskier than just making her disappear, and there's no guarantee it'll work.”
Jeffrey was crazy powerful-whatever he wanted, it happened. If they tried to set Rebecca up, he could flip the
whole thing around with barely any effort.
So, between the options, Liam was much more inclined to set up an ‘accident’ and have her gone for good.
“Go on, get back to it. I'll let you know once I've really made up my mind,” Michael said, still sitting on the fence.
He wasn’t feeling any sort of pity-he was coldly calculating the pros and cons, and nothing else.
Rebecca getting those shares was 100% off the table. What really mattered to him was picking the move that
brought the least trouble his way. If getting rid of Rebecca meant ending up with Jeffrey, Ryan, and Amelia all
gunning for him, it definitely wasn’t worth it.
