Chapter 305
Rebecca was taken aback.
She hadn’t expected the news to spread so quickly.

She'd only gotten the contract at noon, and before she even got home, everyone already knew about it.
“Where's your grandma?” Rebecca asked.
“Grandma's in the study,” Samuel answered. Lately, he'd been getting pretty tight with Amelia and her crew.
“She toldto just ignore them, pretend they don’t even exist.”
Rebecca gave a little nod and led Samuel inside the house.
Amelia could brush them off because they'd all let her down; ignoring them was actually the nicest way she
could handle things. But Rebecca was in a different spot. If she wanted to reclaim Amelia’s shares, facing those
people was unavoidable.
“Oh yeah, Grandma toldto let you know,” Samuel said, his eyes big and round. “If you don’t want to bother
with them, just say whatever comes to mind-no need to take it seriously.”
“Alright,” Rebecca agreed, a hint of relief in her voice.
Moments later, Rebecca and Samuel went inside together.
Mark disappeared into his room with his bags in tow.
When Rebecca and Samuel walked into the living room, the people on the couch all glanced their way. Ryan was
the first to spot her. “Hey, Rebecca-you're back.”
“Yeah,”.Rebecca replied, giving a small nod.
“This is for you. A little celebration for sealing the deal,” Ryan said, handing her a beautifully wrapped box.
Rebecca was just about to say something, but Ryan gently beat her to it. “Take a breather. Ill go upstairs and let
your mom know you're home.”
Without waiting to see how Rebecca reacted, he put the gift in her hands and strode off.
Rebecca just stared, totally baffled.
‘Didn't Mom already know | was home?"
‘Seriously, does he have to act like he owns the place? He's getting way too comfortable,” Rebecca thought.
“Con over and have a seat,” Michael said warmly, a kindly smile on his face. “You've really got stalent,
girl. Two projects in just two months-you’re making the Quinn family proud.”
Rebecca just played along, keeping it polite. “Just lucky, | guess.”

Michael chuckled, all cheer. “Luck counts as skill in my book. Nice work.”
Rebecca gave a subtle nod and kept quiet.
“So, what's next for you?” Max Quinn finally spoke up, stone-faced as always.

“I'm going to finish the assigned tasks first,” Rebecca replied, keeping it all official and not giving away any
details. “We'll see about everything else later.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtMax just nodded.
Michael kept going on about how impressive she was, tossing out compliments left and right.
Rebecca knew exactly what was up-‘He’s just putting on a show. The flashier he brags about me, the more
pissed he actually is that | nailed those projects,‘ she thought.
“Oh, by the way,” Michael suddenly shifted the topic, “I heard you spent a few days with Jeffrey while you were
in Jelasburg. Did you two make up?”
“Just returning a favor,” Rebecca replied, keeping it short and sweet.
Michael acted clueless. “What favor?”
Rebecca just gave him a distant smile and didn’t say a word.
Anyone with half a brain could tell now wasn’t the tto keep digging, and Michael, playing the friendly uncle,
knew better than to push it.
“If you don’t want to talk about it, | won't pry,” Michael said smoothly, still steering the conversation toward
Jeffrey. “Honestly, | was a bit disappointed about your divorce. If you two ever find a way to get back together, I'd
really prefer that.”
Rebecca responded with perfect courtesy, never giving anything away. “Is that so?”
“Of course,” Michael kept up his friendly act. “Once your mom transfers her shares to you, there’s no telling what
kind of schemes people might cup with. With someone like Jeffrey around, we'd all feel a lot safer.”
This time, Rebecca didn’t even mention she could handle it all herself.
Instead, she put on her most serious look and started making things up. “Since that’s your wish, Uncle, I'll see
what I can do.”
Michael froze for a second.
His mind went totally blank. “Huh?”
“Ill give Jeffrey a talk soon and see if he’s interested in getting married again,” Rebecca declared, deadpan.
After her tin the business world, she’d perfected the art of selling total nonsense with a straight face.
Michael froze mid-sip, his teacup hovering in the air.

He was totally stumped, not sure how to process what he'd just heard.
He blurted out, completely confused, “Didn't you two just get divorced?”
“Yeah,” Rebecca said matter-of-factly.
“So, did you work out whatever made you split up?” Michael asked, still looking lost.

“All that means nothing compared to the future of the Quinn family,” Rebecca declared, dead serious.
“I'm willing to put my own feelings aside and join forces with Jeffrey to really build up the Quinn family.”
Michael was left speechless.
He was mentally cussing her out.
But since he’d already set himself up as the good uncle, there was no way he could just drop the act now.
“Marriage isn’t a game-you ought to take it seriously,” Michael shifted gears, his tone going all heartfelt.
“Honestly, your happiness matters more tothan any of the Quinn family’s glory.”
Rebecca deadpanned, “With you putting so much thought into my happiness, how could | just be selfish and turn
my back on the Quinn family’s future?”
Michael was left speechless.
He shot a sidelong glance at Max.
‘Wait, what were we even talking about with Rebecca to begin with? Michael wondered, brow furrowed.
‘How did this end up as a debate about the future of the Quinn family?‘ He was totally stumped.
“Excuse me, Uncle, if you don’t mind, I'll step out for a moment,” Rebecca said as she rose, her manner
courteous yet detached. “I still haven't had a chance to catch up with Mom since | got home.”
“Go ahead,” Michael replied.
Rebecca nodded politely and left.
As Rebecca made her way upstairs, Michael frowned and glanced at Max. “Don’t you think she’s gotten a bit
different since we first met her?”
Max just acted clueless. “Hmm?”
“She’s not straightforward like Amelia anymore. These days, she’s a bit more like Ryan-got that bold, shameless
streak.” Michael mused.
“It’s nothing special,” Max remarked, pretty level-headed. “In this circle, everyone just says whatever fits-talk
sweet to people, but play hard when you have to.”
Michael's expression darkened.

‘Does this brat even hear himself sometimes?‘ Michael thought, annoyed.
Max didn’t even blink, his usual icy, standoffish vibe still radiating off him.

Rebecca went straight upstairs to the study, but she paused before stepping in-Ryan was just standing there
next to Amelia's desk, looking all calm and playing assistant.
Rebecca blinked, completely confused.
‘Seriously, what kind of setup is this?’ Rebecca thought, unable to wrap her head around it.
‘When did Mom start tolerating Ryan this much?‘ she wondered, pretty thrown off.
“Hey Amelia, look who just showed up,” Ryan announced in a breezy tone as soon as he spotted Rebecca
standing at the door.
Amelia glanced up.
As soon as she saw Rebecca, she put aside her work, got up, and walked over, her eyes full of concern. “Are you
okay, Rebecca? How did things go downstairs?” she asked gently.
“I just played along and got through it,” Rebecca said, sneaking glances between Amelia and Ryan. Then she
lowered her voice and asked, “So... are you and Mr. Guzman good now or what?”
Ryan had just called her their daughter, and Amelia didn’t even call him out on it.
This progress was honestly next-level in Rebecca's eyes.
Rebecca couldn't help thinking, ‘Seriously, what went down between these two while | was gone?’
Amelia shot Ryan a look, and he immediately played it cool. “You ladies chat, I'll go downstairs and handle the
guests,” he said, excusing himself.
Rebecca just stood there, dumbstruck.
She seriously had no idea what was going on.
‘What even is this?!" Rebecca screamed inside, her mind a complete mess.
“We're not together again,” Amelia said as she closed the study door and gave Rebecca the gist of it. “He wants
to pay for what he did, working himself to the bone if he has to, and I'm not getting in his way.”
Ever since Ryan finally learned the whole story from Old Mr. Lawrence, he’s totally changed-now he won't leave
Amelia alone, always pestering her like a total stalker.
At first, Amelia just gave him the cold shoulder, hoping he'd feel bad and take the hint. But instead, he started
acting shameless, constantly whining about his mistakes and begging her for forgiveness.
They got stuck in an endless push and pull.
Amelia ran out of tricks, but Ryan refused to budge-he just planted himself there like he belonged, no

He called it “paying his dues,” claiming he'd run himself ragged making up for the past until she'd finally forgive
him.
Amelia just snorted, “You wish. Not a chance I'm ever forgiving you in this lifetime.”
Ryan just shrugged, totally unfazed. “Then I'll keep at it in the next one. As long as | get to stay by your side and
work myself to the bone, that’s good enough for me.”
Amelia didn’t bother wasting breath on him anymore. She'd already left all those feelings behind, so if he wanted
to work himself to the bone for free, she wasn’t about to get in his way. And if word got out, let everyone laugh-
he’d be the one looking foolish, not her.
With that thought, she just let him play the loyal fool if he wanted.
