When the elevator doors slid shut, neither Sophia nor Brandon uttered a word.
But Sophia couldn't help but sneak a glance toward Augus, her expression pensive.
Brandon, standing right by her side, didn't miss her reaction.
Thrice now, in just a few minutes, her gaze had landed on that guy for the third time.
Brandon had srecollection of Augus.
Though they'd never interacted, he remembered the name—Augus.
Back on the ribbon-cutting day at Star-Dempsey Architects, Augus had made a beeline to chitchat with Sophia.
According to Kent's spiel at the time, this Augus dude graduated from the suni as Sophia, under the smentor. Just got his
master's, currently a junior designer in the design department, a sharp cookie with fresh ideas. The guy was known to be a design
whiz, witty and humorous, easygoing and chatty, high EQ, a hopeless romantic. Back in college, he was quite the big man on
campus, the kind of guy girls go gaga over.
He also had that dashing, sunny-boy vibe, oozing youthful zest.
Both in personality and looks, he ticked all the boxes of Sophia's so-called ‘complementary type."
That's exactly the kind she was after.
Initially, Brandon had scoped out this guy a few times, but seeing as Sophia never seemed all that focused on him, he gradually let
Augus slip his mind.

But today.
Brandon's gaze slowly shifted to Sophia's profile.
The elevator doors were long closed, and she couldn't see the guy outside anymore, but she still had that deep-in-thought look, as
if she was lost in her own world, completely oblivious to his presence.
Brandon couldn't help but cough lightly to get her attention again.
Sophia snapped back to reality and gave him a glance.
"You said before you were looking for a complementary type, like him?" Brandon asked casually, his voice light.
Sophia looked surprised, as if she hadn't really pondered that question.
"Cheerful, funny, and romantic," Brandon listed off, echoing Kent's description of Augus's good points and looking at Sophia. "Isn't
that the kind of complementarity you mentioned?"
Sophia nodded, "Seems like it."
"Is he hitting on you?" Brandon inquired.
Sophia shook her head, "Nah."
"What do you think of him?" Brandon asked, maintaining his casual tone.
Sophia was stumped. She usually didn't pay attention to much beyond work. But as far as she could recall, Augus was indeed a
lively and cheerful guy, the life of the party type.
"He's pretty sunny and cheerful," Sophia replied based on her impression. "Good at livening up the atmosphere, high EQ, knows
how to talk. With him around, it's never dull, nor awkward. He makes you feel comfortable, seems steady and attentive, takes good
care of people, but also knows his boundaries. Guess he's the kind girls tend to fall for."
Brandon glanced at her, "Including you?"
"I don't know," Sophia admitted honestly. "I haven't really interacted with him much."
Brandon just nodded, not saying more, but his handsface seemed to lose sof its color.
Sophia couldn't quite read his mood now.
The elevator had already stopped at the basement level, the doors opened, and Brandon quickly changed the subject.
"Let's go."
His voice was still mild, seemingly indifferent yet somehow concerned.
Sophia let out a soft "Mhm" and followed him into the car.
"I heard from Kent that you switched construction crews."
As the car pulled away, Sophia softly steered the conversation back to work.
Brandon nodded, "Yeah."
"Do you have doubts or did you find something?" Sophia asked, puzzled. She knew that Brandon wouldn't make a pointless move

without reason.
Switching construction teams out of the blue was like changing horses midstream—a delay that meant losses.
Brandon shook his head, "Nothing yet. It's just their sneaky vibe about a homeless guy that's gotworried they're up to no
good."
Sophia nodded, sharing his concerns.
"When | was away on a business trip to Zion City, Augus was also—"
She was about to mention Augus's odd behavior to Brandon when he cut her off with a cool tone, "No need to bring him up to me."
