Chapter 198

The thought of it made Trevor uncomfortable. He took his phone out while looking grim and got Cyrus

to get someone on their trail. Although he believed that both of them were just friends, he couldn't

stand the thought of them being together.

The first thing on their itinerary was to have breakfast at the old suburban area where Emma grew up.

As both of them were having breakfast, Emma recounted, "When I was younger, I lived around this

area and led a simple life. After I attended elementary school, Steven started earning more money and

we moved into a mansion. A few years later, he got addicted to gambling and the company's business

went from bad to worse before it finally went bankrupt."

Steven was involved in the construction business and was paid a hefty amount for each project that he

was engaged as a contractor. During the peak of his career, he was famous in Jonestown. Although he

had gained fame and fortune, it also brought about endless temptations, and his inability to resist such

temptations caused his downfall.

Instead of learning from his failures and starting anew, he was so used to living a lavish life that he

became disgusting and unscrupulous. His reasoning for sending her into Trevor's bed was to fulfill her,

but in truth, he merely wanted to extort a large sum of money from the man since he knew that he was

rich and influential.

Hearing that, Wilson pursed his lips and was silent for a few seconds before he spoke. "Has he ever

beaten you?" he asked.

"No," Emma said truthfully. "When I was a child, my mother would protect me, so he didn't dare to hit

me. At most, he would just scold me and make a fuss about having to waste his money on me for

nothing. Once I got older, he couldn't hit me anymore."

After listening to her depiction, he could picture the life she had when she was younger. He was

thankful for Steven's wife for taking Emma in and putting her under her care. If it wasn't for her

kindness and protection toward Emma, he couldn't imagine what kind of person Emma would turn out

to be.

When she noticed Wilson's glum expression, she smiled and comforted him by saying, "Everything is in

the past. I'm thankful for it as they have made me stronger."

Soon after, Wilson stopped probing any further. Then, they visited Emma's elementary school and high

school after breakfast. She also told him about her results, and Wilson felt proud of her after hearing

that. He was proud and delighted to learn that his talent in language had been inherited by her.

To be frank, Emma was also very curious about why he wanted to see how she lived when she was

younger. However, she decided not to ask him, thinking that he just wanted to get to know her better.

In the afternoon, Emma sent Wilson to the hotel and went home after that to get some rest before

attending the gala at night. Just as Wilson entered his room, he received a call from Trevor, making him

suspect that Trevor had sent someone to follow them as the call was made right after he parted ways

with Emma. It just seemed too well-timed, and he didn't rule out the possibility since he was at

Jonestown, which was Trevor's territory.

"Mr. Young, let's attend the gala together tonight to promote our new drama," Trevor said politely.

Although the collaboration had just been confirmed, the promotional work could start now. The drama

was expected to be a hit even before it was aired since it was a production that leveraged Bateson

Group's funds and Wilson's talent and fame.

However, Wilson didn't seem interested and replied impassively, "I'm pretty sure that President Bateson

will be accompanied by beautiful women on such an occasion."

"Since the beautiful woman that I want to go with would refuse to come with me, that's why I'm asking

you." Trevor laughed.

If Emma would ever agree to accompany him to such occasions, it would mean that he had succeeded

at getting her back.

"I know that you are thinking of terminating the contract, and I know that you aren't bothered by the

penalty fee. I just want to remind you that the end goal of our collaboration is for Emma to succeed."

Trevor's words managed to persuade Wilson. After all, their end goal was indeed for Emma to succeed.

In fact, Trevor's motive for such an arrangement was to promote their new drama, and he also wanted

to speak to Wilson privately; he wanted to know why Wilson was being so kind to Emma. Other than

that, he would at least have a chance to speak to Emma if he was with Wilson, for the woman would

certainly come to greet her godfather.

If not, she would ignore Trevor the whole night like the time he drank her wine. Although he gifted the

kitchenware that she liked and also the mug that he broke, she simply thanked him in return.

After Emma got home, she started making preparations and went to pick a gown with Susanna.

Susanna always preferred a striking look, so she picked a bright-colored dress. On the other hand,

Emma preferred a low-key black dress.

Since she planned to accessorize with the emerald jewelry gifted by Celestia, she selected a black

cheongsam since it looked rather elegant. Emma had shown the jade jewelry set to Susanna before,

and the woman squealed when she saw it.

"Let me tell you this—I remember seeing this pair of jade earrings." Susanna immediately took her

phone out and searched for the earrings online. Both of them were shocked when they saw the search

results. It turned out that the jade jewelry wasn't initially a set but was collected separately to form one.

The pair of jade earrings fetched a sky-high price at the auction, and the jade necklace was so rare and

precious that it caused quite a stir at the auction back then. It was later on purchased by a mysterious

person, and the necklace had since disappeared from the public eye.

Unexpectedly, it was purchased by the Young Family, and it had now landed in Emma's hands. The set

was also made up of a jade bracelet and a diamond-encrusted jade ring, each of which was equally

luxurious and expensive.

Emma only chose to wear the necklace because she felt that she couldn't carry the look if she put on a

few pieces at the same time. Susanna then picked out another dress and tried to match it with the jade

necklace.

"I think just the necklace will do. You're more suited for a low-key, luxurious look." Susanna sighed.

On the contrary, Susanna was accessorized from head to toe, making her look incredibly attractive. Her

bling looked so sparkly that it was almost blinding.

As the both of them sat in the MPV that was heading to the gala, Susanna said, "Tonight's gala is a get-

together for the film and television industry, so Crystal will definitely attend."

"Yeah," Emma answered. She had thought of it too, but she was indifferent about Crystal's presence at

the gala. Since she had established her own film company, she would definitely be there.

"I'm afraid that she'll cause you trouble since she's quite a b*tch." Susanna seemed concerned.

However, Emma looked stunning tonight, especially with the jade necklace on. Crystal would probably

be furious because of it.
