Chapter 326
Besides, this boss of hers not only worked behind the cash register, but she also took on the role of a
waitress and even cleaned the tables. There was simply no work in the restaurant that she would not
do. When it got really busy in the restaurant, she would basically be left with no free time at all.
Perhaps because her capabilities were limited, she devoted all her life to giving her child the best that
she could afford.
At around three in the afternoon, the restaurant received an order for pineapple buns and milk tea.
When Serenity read the address of the customer, however, she seemed to be lost in her thoughts.
“What’s wrong?” Clara asked. “Is there a problem?”
She had already prepared the food, but when she handed it over to Serenity, she noticed that the
young woman was staring a the receipt blankly, seemingly in a daze.
“Nothing,” replied Serenity as she took the food in her hands.
The address happened to be the law firm where she used to work. If she was to deliver the food there,
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtit was likely that she would bump into her former colleagues.
Back then, she used to be the star lawyer of the firm, but now, she was about to return there without
any honor or respectability at all.
Her heart was filled with bitterness, but she reminded herself that since she had chosen this profession,
it would be impossible to avoid this kind of thing happening sooner or later. Besides, she still had a long
life ahead of her, so she was bound to bump into people she used to know. Was she going to stay
fearful of facing those people for the rest of her life just because she used to be in prison, just because
she had fallen to rock bottom?
When it all came down to it, all she had to do was get used to it and she would be fine!
she
She reminded herself of all these things as she placed the food into the scooter’s basket and headed
toward the address. The closer she got to her old office, the more familiar the roads seemed to her.
When she finally reached the office entrance, parked the scooter and looked up at the modern
skyscraper.
Back then, when she had first stepped into this building, she remembered how ambitious and
determined she was. She even thought that once she had accumulated enough experience and
became more independent, she might be able to set up her own law firm one day!
But now, all those thoughts had become wishful fantasies, as illusory as the shadow of the moon on the
surface of the lake.
Serenity picked up the food and went into the familiar elevator before pressing the floor button. As she
stood in front of the glass doors of her old office, she dialed the number of the customer who had
ordered the food. Soon afterward, out walked a young woman who seemed to be fresh out of college.
She was probably a new recruit of the law firm.
“Thank you,” the young woman said as Serenity handed her the food.
Just then, the receptionist of the office recognized Serenity and cried out, “Isn’t that Serenity? Are
you…’
The receptionist’s eyes turned to the food in her colleague’s hands and asked in surprise, “You’re doing
the delivery?”

The young woman asked the receptionist, “Do you guys know each other?”
“Of course we do! Serenity used to work here, and she was the star..
The receptionist stopped abruptly mid-sentence. The look she gave Serenity turned from surprise to
pity.
Serenity smiled and turned on her heels to leave, but just as she was about to step into the elevator,
she could hear the hum of conversation between the receptionist and the young woman. They were
most likely talking about her.
In any case, Serenity still had one thing to be thankful for. At least she had not bumped into too many
of her old colleagues today, so things had not gotten too awkward.
After a long day of working, Serenity finally got back to Valor Residence at around 10 pm. She was
about to head straight int her room but then remembered what Jackson had said, so she gently
knocked on his door when she passed by his room.
Since he wanted so much for her to say goodnight to him, she would just say it!
Moments later, the door opened. Jackson stood there, his eyes peering down at her as he said, “You’re
finally home, Sis.”
“Um, yeah. Anyway… Good night!”
She then turned around and prepared to head back to her room.
