| was pacing the hospital room once more, thinking back on the surge | felt through my bond with Kaia when at
the council hearing. Did it mean what | thought it meant.
"What is it?" Alora sighs out loud, pushing her untouched tray of food away from her.
"Nothing that can't wait." | pull my phone out of my trouser pocket to check the time. Shouldn't Beckett have
woken by now...
"Well, right now | have all the tin the world, try| might be able to help."
| scoff without meaning to, not out loud anyway.
"Hector..." She presses, givinga pointed look.
"During the council hearing, | felt a surge through the bond with Kala. Like...it had becmore powerful. |
abandoned the hearing, | chere... the council are at the door, pissed off | didn't return. Not helping the
current situation with Alpha Marc. Not keeping their eyes off my pack."

"Yes..l assumed as much."
"And you felt it?"
"Not the rejection as such, but it's as if my connection to her has been supercharged. No longer split between

Two entities..." She whispers as she looks down at the cannula sticking out of the back of her hand before looking
back up at me.
Maybe | should have chosen my words more carefully
"You love her!" Her words weren't a question but a statement.
This was beyond odd. Discussing the bond with her sister, a person that | once thought was meant for me. How
wrong | had been.

Would it be cruel to admit that | have feelings for her sister, would it be cruel to say that | have had them all
along.
| just didn't know back then. Blinded by anger and revenge....how could | deserve someone as pure as Kaia

The question would then be, how long until Kala accepted me... If she did.

| would, I would think of Kaia above all others. Even when she didn't know, | would be acting for her... protecting
her. Even if it needed to be from the shadows.
Isit myself at the end of the hospital bed, | felt as if | shouldn't be standing.
| reach out, taking Alora's hand within mine before | start.

| feel the bond between us break, the bond that had been thinned down.. finally wither away.
It's a relief grander than | expected.
To only have one bond, to now feel the bond only with Kaia. To feel that mate bond that should have only been
there from the start.
| wonder if she'll feel my breaking of the bond like I did of hers with Than.
