In the end, Sherman relented and released Vince's arm. He did not want Rita to feel any more awkward than she already was. "I believe we're done here." He took Rita's hand and left the Russells' residence without even looking back at them.

He then hurriedly helped her to the sofa and breathed a sigh of relief that she showed no particular signs of discomfort. She simply moved to one side, clutched her belly, and avoided speaking to him.
"I'm sorry, Karen. It's my fault for acting impulsively. You can get mad atif you want. Sherman and Rita are newlyweds, and it normal for Sherman not to see things from my point of view.
