Chapter 244
“If I were to rely on him too much, eventually, that would become a habit,” she thought.
He bent down and gently kissed her still-red and swollen cheek. The kiss was so soft, like a gentle stroke of feathers.
“Then, just rely on me. Your dependence is something I exceedingly welcome.”
“I’ve been yearning for her to depend on me. Better yet, for her to depend on me to the point where she wouldn’t
leave,” he thought inwardly.
Half an hour later, the family doctor arrived at the Youngblood residence. He looked at Rosalie’s bruised cheek and
prescribed some anti-swelling medicine.
After the doctor left, Rosalie was about to apply the medicine, but Jonathan beat her to it and said, “Let me help
you.”.
“Oh,” she replied briefly.
His long fingers dabbed the cream ointment and lightly applied it to her cheek. His soft and gentle movements,
accompanied by the cooling sensation of the cream, seemed to lessen the faint burning she felt on her face.
“You really can’t seem to let me be at ease, always getting hurt,” he whispered while gently grazing her face with
his fingers.
Rosalie realized she could not refute his words, as apparently, since she met him, she had always sustained various
minor injuries.
“If only I could hide you at home, that would be great. No one can hurt you, and I won’t always see injuries on you,”
he said. Every time he saw injuries on her body, it pained him as if his heart were pierced.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“How is it possible to hide at home?” she murmured as if he were joking.
He withdrew his fingers and drew a tissue to wipe off the excess ointment from his fingers. Then, he leaned down,
looked at her squarely, and said, “If you keep getting hurt again, I’ll really hide you at home. Even if you are willing
to injure yourself, I’m not willing to see you get hurt all the time.”
His dark eyes were full of earnestness.
Rosalie looked at the man in front of her blankly, pondering, “Is he being real? Is he not joking?”
“Well, go back to your room first. If you’re tired, just take a rest.” As Jonathan spoke, he scooped Rosalie up
horizontally.
She shrieked and almost instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck. She could not help but say, “I can walk by
myself.” Only her face was beaten, and she was not hurt elsewhere.
“Let me carry you. I’ll feel better that way rather than if you accidentally fell and hurt yourself,” he replied.
She could not help but blush, wondering, “Does he think I’m a child?”
He carried her back to the room and carefully placed her on the bed. “You are tired today, so take a rest.”
Rosalie nodded. As truth had been showed, she was indeed tired.
Shortly after, she fell asleep. Jonathan looked at Rosalie’s sleeping countenance. Aside from tenderness and
heartache, deep hostility reflected through his eyes.
It seemed that he had let the Hamilton family off the hook for too long, to the extent of forgetting something.
When Rosalie woke up, she found the sky had already darkened.
“Ahh!” she suddenly shouted and shot up from the bed. “Oh, dear. The things I want to bring when I visit Granny, I
forgot to buy them,” she realized.
“What’s the matter? Why did you shout so loudly?” A voice sounded, accompanied by rapid footsteps.
Rosalie looked to where the sound came from and found that the door adjoining her bedroom with Jonathan’s was
not closed. At that time, Jonathan was hurrying over from the other bedroom.
“No, it’s nothing. I just suddenly remembered that I’m to see Granny tomorrow, and I haven’t bought anything yet.”
She thought, “Actually, I’ve bought them. However, those pastries were thrown into the trash bin by the Hamilton
family.”
“Well, I’ve bought them for you and placed them on the coffee table,” he said.
She looked at the coffee table in her room and found the familiar packaging bags. They were the packaging bags of
pastries that she bought from the mall. “Did he buy a set of identical items?” she wondered.
“Are those the ones I bought?” she murmured.
“Well, I’ve added something else,” he said.
Puzzledly, she asked, “But how did you know what I bought?” Even if he had just watched the video, the most he
could make out of was the packaging bags.
“Briefly check up on the mall’s list of sales slips to know what you’ve bought,” Jonathan explained.
With that, Rosalie understood and thought, “To others, it may not be that easily done. However, to him, it’s just a
piece of cake.”
“By the way, my sudden shout just now, have I disturbed you?” Rosalie inquired.
“There’s nothing to disturb.” Jonathan bent his knees and squatted by her bedpost to say, “Regardless of the time,
you’ll always come first with me.”
Stunned, Rosalie looked at the man before her. At that moment, he was not as aloof as before. So much so that the

Jonathan took Rosalie downstairs to eat something. The sight of her eating the supposed dinner that ended up
being supper darkened his eyes instinctively. Then, he thought of the call Howard made before she woke up.
Howard seemed eager to find out how much he cared about Rosalie and repeatedly mentioned the car accident
case back then.
If it had not been for the car accident, how would he have ended up as such? To have acted so nervously in front of
her, as if terrified of her finding out the truth of what really happened back then.
The Hamilton family owed her justice, and he would let the Hamilton family return it. He, too, would clear her name
and give her the innocence that he owed her.
“What’s the matter? Why are you looking at me like that?” Suddenly, the one who was busily eating raised her head
and looked at him.
“Nah, I just think nothing is better than being able to look at you like that,” he whispered.
“Indeed, it’s really an amazing thing to be able to watch her up close and quietly beside him. He finally has
someone he really wanted in this world,” he surmised.
The next day, Rosalie got up and set off with Jonathan to the town where Wilma lived.
Before leaving, she called Wilma again and told her their arrival time. After hearing Wilma’s clear and crisp speech
on the phone, Rosalie was slightly relieved. “It seems Granny is in better health now,” she thought.
However, since she did not want to be too high-profile when entering the town, Rosalie asked Jonathan whether the
car he drove could be more ordinary.
As it turned out, the most ordinary car in the Youngblood family was a BMW, worth more than 400 thousand dollars.
Rosalie sighed and thought, “Right. For commoners, a car worth 400 thousand dollars is considered to be an
excellent car. Yet, to Jonathan, it appears to be ordinary, and nothing can be more ordinary than that.”
