Chapter 677

Even if she was low-key, she had to stand up and be strong for Amelia’s sake. Otherwise, Irene would look down her

nose on Amelia even more. A glint flashed across Irene’s eyes, but she still insisted, “Sure. I also want to know the

truth!”

Rosalie ignored Irene and asked Amelia, “Amelia, can you stand?”

“No problem.” Amelia forced a smile and stood up unsteadily.

Rosalie was going to hold Amelia steady, but Jonathan said, “Let me.” After that, he held one of Amelia’s arms and

walked toward the exit.

Warren narrowed his eyes slightly. He knew Jonathan had no feelings for Amelia and was only willing to help her

because of Rosalie.

However, Warren still found the scene to be an eyesore.

Amelia ignored Warren as she passed him, not even sparing him a glance.

Warren pursed his thin lips into a straight line and stared at Amelia’s back as she left.

Irene cast an unhappy glance at Warren. Uneasiness welled up within her at how focused he was on Amelia’s back.

She thought angrily, “Does he still have that bitch, Amelia, in his heart?”

However, it would not be long before she and Warren got married. By then, regardless of whether he still had

Amelia in his heart or not, she wanted him to have only her in it.

After leaving the police station, Irene was still crying and complaining about how she was wronged.

“I just thought I should settle my previous grievances with Amelia since I would be raising Aiden in the future, but…

she slapped me in the face. She caused me to miscarry and lose my child in the past and even treated me like this

now. Don’t I have the right to be angry? I didn’t want to put you in a difficult position, so I wanted to reconcile with

her. Yet…”

Irene wept, looking pitiful, especially under the illumination of the street lamp. The light shining on her face made

the imprint on her cheek look even more apparent.

As Warren stared at the mark on her face, images of Amelia’s bruised face crossed his mind instead.

His gaze sharpened as he looked at Irene.

“W-What’s wrong?” Irene stuttered as guilt washed over her. She felt as if

his

eyes could see through her acts and thoughts.

“Do you really have nothing to do with those gangsters who made trouble today?” Warren asked in a deep voice.

Irene’s heartbeat suddenly accelerated, but she still kept an aggrieved look on her face. “Warren, you also think I’m

involved? Do you also believe what that Rosalie woman said? She and Amelia are on the same

side!”

Warren stared at Irene for a while and said, “It doesn’t matter. I can find out the truth the minute I look into it.

Irene, Amelia’s imprisonment was her punishment for the child you lost. I don’t want to stir up any more trouble

and be a laughingstock. Understand?”

Irene’s heart was shocked. He was implying he knew she was the culprit behind the incident that morning but did

not say it directly to save her dignity.

“I… understand.” Irene bit her red lips and lowered her head. A trace of envy was evident in her eyes.

She vowed silently, “Once I become the matriarch of the York family, I’ll take my revenge against Amelia and that

illegitimate child! I’ll make sure that child is ruined so that Amelia never has the chance to turn over!”

Rosalie and Jonathan accompanied Amelia to the hospital for an examination. Fortunately, Amelia only suffered

some superficial injuries and nothing internal.

After sending Amelia back, Rosalie still had difficulty getting over her anger at Irene’s despicable behavior.

“Say, do you think Amelia is comfortable handing Aiden to Warren? Once Warren and Irene get married, that

woman will become Aiden’s stepmother,” Rosalie reminded.

“I’m sure she thought about it. All right, don’t be angry anymore. Anger is not good for pregnant women,” Jonathan

said.

“I just feel that it’s unfair for Amelia. Can’t Warren see that Irene is acting?” Rosalie asked.

“Maybe he can, but still tolerates her. As far as I know, Warren got together with Irene at that time because he

happened to be sick and needed a bone marrow transplant when the York family was down and

out. He then found a suitable donor for the transplant in the bone marrow bank,” Jonathan said.

“And that person turns out to be Irene?” Rosalie questioned.

“Yeah.” Jonathan nodded. “Irene donated her bone marrow to Warren, and they got to know each other from

there.”

“But isn’t this kind of donation random and confidential? How could they meet, then?” Rosalie was confused.

Jonathan said, “Irene had a boyfriend at that time, who was a doctor in the hospital Warren was staying. It seemed

Irene met Warren through him. I just ran a general investigation on him when searching for the attending

physician’s whereabouts you’re looking for. I didn’t ask for further investigation.”

“Have you heard anything about the attending physician yet?” Rosalie asked.

“A bit. We should be hearing from them soon,” Jonathan answered. “That’s good.” Rosalie’s frown smoothened out

slightly upon hearing the good news. “I hope we can find out the truth earlier and prove Amelia’s innocence.”

“Is the truth so important?” Jonathan questioned abruptly.

“Of course it is!” Rosalie answered with certainty. “Won’t you turn out like Warren, who can’t tell black from white, if

you are unaware of the truth for the rest of your life?”

“But sometimes, knowing the truth may not be a good thing,” he argued as he glanced at her thoughtfully.

“If it were me, I’d rather know the truth than be fooled by illusions,” she said. That was why she went to the Faculty

of Law and chose to become a lawyer.

Jonathan pursed his thin lips and dropped his gaze. He seemed to be shrouded by desolation.

“What? Do you think it’s bad for Warren to know the truth if Irene did indeed frame Amelia?” Rosalie asked, holding

Jonathan’s face with her hands and meeting his gaze.

“No, it’s good.” Jonathan smiled faintly and added, “If Warren knew the truth, there might be changes in the

custody decision.”

However, there were some truths that he hoped would stay hidden forever. Hopefully, they never see the light of

day.
