Chapter 697 It was impossible, yet there she stood, utterly confounded. Megan had watched with her own eyes as Leopold got into the car.
All the way, she had tailed him closely, never once losing sight of the vehicle, never once seeing it stop. How could Leopold just vanish into thin air? As Lana whirled around, her eyes met with a startled expression from Megan.
“What are you doing here? You haven't been following me, have you?” Lana's voice was tinged with disbelief.
"Where's Leopold? Where did Leopold go?" demanded Megan, her voice seething with anger.
Lana looked at her through sunglasses, her irritation palpable as she rolled her eyes and replied, "Why should I tell you?" “Because he's my husband,” Megan ground out each word with barely contained rage.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtLana let out a mocking chuckle, "So what? You can't keep track of your husband, and you think | can?" Megan was so close to slapping the smugness right off Lana's face. "I saw him get into your car, she insisted.
Lana's expression turned to one of exaggerated shock, "Oh my God. It was just me and my driver. How could you mistake him for Leopold? You've got somnambulism and delusions. You better get yourself to a doctor, pronto." Megan didn't buy it. She flung the car door open and searched high and low, but aside from the driver, there was no one else.
She had been so stupid, so utterly fooled, and had wasted precious time chasing Lana.
“What pulled you away from your cozy time at the ranch to come shopping here?" Megan inquired, suspicion lacing her words.
“What | do is none of your business. Do | owe you an explanation?" Lana shot back before turning on her heel to leave, ignoring Megan completely.
Megan was struck by a sudden realization, that she had been lured away by a classic bait-and-switch, orchestrated by that vixen Lana, no doubt in cahoots with Aurelia. They had probably dressed the driver up as Leopold to draw her out, leaving Aurelia free to cozy up to Leopold.
“Lana, I'm keeping tabs on this. We'll settle the score next time,” she muttered under her breath. She hurried back to her car and sped toward the ranch.
By now, Leopold had taken Aurelia, William, Skyler, and Sierra to the local evening fair.
The fair was vibrant, filled with traditional handmade crafts and famous local treats.
Skyler seemed to have forgotten the earlier gloom, holding hands with William and cheerfully browsing the stalls. Sierra followed closely behind them.
Leopold had someone look into Sierra's background, finding no ties to the ominous AK Group.
It seemed Tanya truly wanted a woman of unblemished background for Skyler's bride.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmSierra stopped in front of a stall selling wind chimes. The exquisite detailing on the chimes was painstakingly handcrafted, full of artisanal charm.
Captivated, Sierra couldn't resist picking one up to admire.
"Sierra, do you like that?" William asked, noticing her interest.
“It's beautiful’ replied Sierra with a smile.
"Pick one,” William gestured towards the display, “It's my treat.” Swiftly, Sierra returned the chime she was holding back, "That's not necessary, but thank you." William patted her shoulder with his small hand, "Don't be shy. We're friends now, and | love giving my friends gifts. All my friends have received gifts from me. If you don't accept my gift, then you're not really considering me a friend.” Skyler chimed in, nodding earnestly, "William always gives me gifts, such as handmade models, and they're so cool. His planes can even fly in the sky." Aurelia joined them, patting Sierra's shoulder with a smile, “Don't be formal with William. Pick out whatever you like." She glanced over the wind chimes, "These are quite lovely. I'll choose one myself.
Together, Aurelia and Sierra, each selected a wind chime before they moved on to explore other stalls.
Will spotted a claw machine and beckoned Skyler and Sierra to join him in trying to win a plush toy.
Aurelia and Leopold watched from a short distance, their conversation turning serious.
“If Skyler really has a split personality, having been in Elysium for so long, it's unlikely Geoffrey hasn't shown up even once, right?" "The fear is that he's learned how to mimic Sky without being detected" This was Leopold's greatest concern and Aurelia's worst fear.
