Aurelia gently patted her head. "Your dad didn't divorce because Jelena did something wrong. It's just that he doesn't want to live with your mom anymore." Nina blinked, "Why doesn't Dad want to live with Mom?" "It's complicated, sweetheart," Aurelia sighed. "Grown-ups are complex. Marriage doesn't always mean forever. Life is full of comings and goings. Sometimes, people fall out of love and want to go their separate ways. | know it's hard to understand now, but you will when you're older." From the neighboring bed, Mira flicked open her eyes, murmuring, "I get it. Dad doesn’t love Mom anymore and wants a new wife.
But we can't swap out Dad even if we don't like him. It's just not fair." Aurelia felt a bead of sweat trickle down her temple. "You girls are lucky to be part of the Stirling family because of your father. If you had a different dad, you wouldn't be the Stirling family anymore. Would you want that?" Nina and Mira exchanged glances and shook their heads. "No, we wouldn't." "Exactly," Aurelia continued. "Even regular kids have parents who divorce, but they aren't as fortunate as you to have a family nto protect them. Skids end up abandoned when their parents remarry, or worse, mistreated by stepparents. But you don’t need to worry. The Stirling family has strict rules against such cruelty. Anyone who dares to hurt you will be the one to leave the Stirling family, not the other way around." Nina said, "So, when Megan tried to poison Kane, Uncle Leopold kicked her out, right?" "Exactly," Aurelia nodded. "Your father may not be perfect, often absent from home, but he loves you. He's put half his fortune in your names." Nina pouted, "Why do adults get to decide everything without asking us? Aren't we part of the family too?" "You're still young," Aurelia shrugged. "You can't grasp the adult decisions yet, so you don't get a say. The only choice your kids have in a divorce is whether to stay with your dad or mom. But as a part of the Stirling family, you should stay with your father." Nina tugged at Aurelia's sleeve. "Auntie, do you think your cousin might change her mind and marry Dad?" "lI don't know, sweetheart. But even if she doesn't, someone else will becyour stepmom eventually. Your dad will probably remarry, and your mom may do the same. You need to be prepared for that." At those words, Nina's eyes brimmed with tears. "We don't want a stepmom or a stepdad." "No one wants a new step-parent if they don't like them," Aurelia said gently. "You don't have to live with them if that's the case." Without any comfort, Nina started to break down in tears.
Mira, with her simple thoughts, didn't worry too much. As long as she was fed and cared for, she was content.
"Nina, don't worry," Mira chirped. "If Dad gets a stepmom, we'll just move into the Stirling Mansion. We can live with our grandma, Uncle Leopold and Auntie Aurelia. It's much livelier there, and | like it." Nina was speechless. "You're such a goof." Mira stuck out her tongue playfully. "I was born a goof, and | love being one!" Aurelia tucked them in snugly.
"Now, off to sleep. School tomorrow, girls. Don't fret about the future. Even if the disaster falls, Uncle Leopold and | will back up for you." Leaving the room, Aurelia checked on Kane, finding him sound asleep.
Leopold had just finished showering, his tall figure draped in a sapphire blue robe, alluring and sensual like a mysterious night creature.
Aurelia admired him quietly. As a designer, she had never been one to resist beauty.
