I am Avery's lawful husband, and yet Cayden has taken on my responsibilities as his own. How ridiculous is this?

Overcome with indignation, Dylan approached Leonardo's casket and enunciated every word clearly for everyone

else to hear, “It's such a pity that you never got to meet me when you were alive. I'm your son-in-law, Dylan Musk.

It's unfortunate that you left us before Avery and I had our wedding ceremony. Nonetheless, please rest in peace. I

promise to organize a grand wedding for Avery. She is my one and only wife. I will also take good care of your two

grandchildren. I swear!”

Dylan then threw a provoking look at Cayden. To his delight, the latter's face grimaced in response.

Cayden knew he could not lose his temper right then. Nonetheless, an unfathomable look flashed across his eyes.

Well, well, well, I'll let him be for now.

Cayden seldom lost his cool. At the sight of him trying to keep it together, Dylan suddenly felt his pent-up anger

slightly appeased.

However, at the sight of Avery slumping against Cayden's chest, too heartbroken from her loss, fury began to burn

in Dylan's chest again.

Don't lose it.

Dylan rubbed his sore temples and clenched his fist as he tried to pacify himself.

It was not the time to lash out. Otherwise, Avery's prejudice against him would get even worse.

Meanwhile, Avery said with a frown, “Dad, life has been hard on you. Henrietta and her daughter had treated you

as nothing more than an ATM. You had been too silly to be ordered around by those two. I'd be lying if I said I don't

loathe them for what they had done. You wouldn't have ended up the way you did if not for those two bloodsucking

gold-diggers... Dad, please rest in peace. I will seek justice for you.”

Avery recalled the harrowing footage that showed the two avaricious women insulting and spewing vile words at

Leonardo, who was already on his deathbed, just so they could get a portion of his inheritance.

She watched as her father breathed his last breaths in despair and indignation, and there was nothing she could do

about it.

Avery fervently wished she could skin Henrietta and Milana alive right then.

She tried to suppress her pain, and a determined glint flashed in her eyes. This time, she vowed to make Henrietta

and Milana pay, no matter the cost.

Cayden took care of everything regarding Leonardo's funeral, which was held at the Rumpley residence.

Dylan had wanted to hold the funeral at the Musk residence. However, his intention to help was shot down by Avery

immediately.

“Dylan, go find yourself an empty urn if you want to hold my father's funeral at your place. I'm definitely not going

to let you take my father's ashes away,” Avery snapped.

Knowing full well that even though Avery may appear meek, she was, in fact, very stubborn and opinionated.

Hence, Dylan could only clench his teeth and suffer the humiliation.

Fine. She's upset because she lost her father. I should not aggravate her further. I'm going to deal with her after

this!

Meanwhile, as people came and paid respect to Leonardo, they brought along flower wreaths that filled the place

as sorrow hung in the air.

Leonardo's portrait was placed on the table. The amiable and gentle look in his eyes served as a painful reminder

to everyone of what they had lost.

Avery was dressed in all-black, her delicate face pale as a sheet of paper.

She stood before her late father's portrait stiffly and lifelessly like a broken rag doll, as tears streamed down her

cheeks.

Her children were dressed in all-black as well, as they accompanied their mother meekly, making no fuss.

Alina was dressed in a plain black dress as she stood and mourned her late brother.

She never imagined that she wouldn't even get to see her brother one last time before he passed. Their father,

who was in bad health, was still oblivious that his son had passed on.

Blake would never be able to take the news of Leonardo's death.

Cayden was also dressed in plain black clothing as he greeted droves of guests on behalf of Avery. Some of them

were her colleagues, others were friends. Some of them were Cayden's business partners who came after hearing

the news.

They were curious why the usual cold and distant Cayden would stoop to organize the funeral of a menial

employee's father.

What was more confounding was the fact that his two children were also mourning the late old man.

I guess things are complicated for these ultra-rich families.

However, they would never let the opportunity to network with Cayden slip by their hands.

In business, everyone was always looking out for their best interests.

Nonetheless, they knew where to draw the line, as well as the right words to say. Most importantly, they were there

to pay their respects to the deceased.

Meanwhile, Dylan was dressed in all-black as well, as he competed with Cayden to greet the guests as the son-in-

law of the Rumpley residence.

It was a strange sight to behold—two handsome men rivaling each other to protect Avery, watching over her as if

they were her guardian angels. Tension sizzled in the air as some guests tried to fathom how all three of them were

related to each other, while others were abuzz with hushed speculation.

Cecelia and Trevor were there to pay their respects to Avery's father as well. They brought along a flower wreath

and left right after offering a few words of condolences to her.

Nina was befuddled by the sudden passing of Avery's father. She remembered Avery happily telling her that her

father's health was making a good recovery when they talked on the phone not long ago. Hence, she was taken

aback by the sudden news of Leonardo's death.

It was a shocking news for sure.

Even if she did not know the reason for Leonardo's abrupt death, Nina knew about the news of Henrietta and her

daughter getting remanded. Somehow, she reckoned that the mother-and-daughter duo had something to do with

Leonardo's death.

Nina placed the flower wreath before Leonardo's portrait and bowed deeply to show her respect. She let out a soft

sigh and patted Avery on her shoulders. “Ery, he's gone. I'm really sorry about that. You have to stay strong. I'm

sure your dad doesn't wish to see you in this state.”

Avery's eyes were brimming with tears. At the sight of her two children staying by her side, and Cayden, who was

busy greeting her guests on her behalf, she decided she had to be strong and nodded solemnly.

On the other hand, Cayden's domineering aura and handsome face managed to garner everyone's attention.

His slender figure stood grounded and towered over everyone else, giving off a regal vibe.

With the man who loved her by her side, and her two adorable children, Avery knew she was still loved and cared

for, and it might just be enough to make up for the fatherly love that she had lost forever.

There was no one else she would rather spend the rest of her life with. Cayden and her children were all that

mattered now.

Allie hid in a deserted corner and took off the huge sunglasses she had on as she transfixed a cold, hard stare at

Leonardo's portrait.

Hah. The greatest stain of my life is finally dead. I have nothing to fear now, other than —

Allie turned to look at the worn-out Avery, who was standing before Leonardo's portrait, and her eyes narrowed

dangerously.

I cannot let this woman corrupt my outstanding son!

With the thought in mind, she stomped on the floor in her high heels and left in a huff.
