Chapter 619
Now, as she contemplated, she wondered if Captain had Joshua summarized The Pilgrim’s
Progress in the afternoon to see if his handwriting would give him away. After all, there
was a distinct difference between an adult’s handwriting and a child’s. However, Joshua
managed to conceal it perfectly.
“Cynthia “Joshua’s voice suddenly called out from outside.
Opening the door, Cynthia asked, “What is it?”
“I have something to ask you. I’m not sure if you’re willing to listen.” Joshua primarily
wanted to buy Sean some time to think and make a decision.
“Go ahead.”
“Do you like our neighbor, Matthew?”
Cynthia was taken aback. What kind of question was this? Seeing the sincerity on Joshua’s
face, she could not help but recall his acting abilities.
“Haven’t I already answered that?” she reminded him.

“I just want to confirm one more time. If Matthew were to confess his feelings to you,
would you agree to be with him?” Joshua felt this was of utmost importance to him.
“No, I wouldn’t.” Cynthia acknowledged that Captain was handsome. However,
attractiveness was not her sole criterion for choosing a partner. “I am not considering any
romantic relationships at the moment.”
She was not sure if it was due to the failure of her previous marriage or her own
personality. Right at the moment, she held a rather indifferent attitude toward marriage
and dating. She preferred to let things take their natural course.
“So can I marry you?” Joshua asked, catching her off guard.
Cynthia responded in disbelief. She reached out, poked his forehead, and very seriously

“I want to marry you. I want to take care of you, be good to you,” Joshua declared bravely,
his words bold and daring.
“Don’t even think about it. I have no desire to get married or be in a relationship. I just

Joshua felt as if his heart had been pierced. That was a straightforward rejection.

Perhaps her words were hurtful. However, not saying anything or being ambiguous would
only exacerbate Joshua’s obsession and paranoia. She had noticed his acting, his lies, his
possessiveness toward her all. She could not let him contime down this path. She had to
sever his thoughts in order to bring him back to normalcy, to set him back on his intended
path.
“Okay, I understand,” Joshua mumbled, his head hanging low, yet a shift had occurred
within him. He turned and left after uttering those words. His departing figure was filled
with complexities as if he had been struck by something profound.

Sean’s number but was met with an automated female voice stating that the phone had

Early the next morning, Sean returned her call.
His opening statement was concise, directly addressing the matter at hand. “In not in
Nexuria right now; I’m abroad.”
“When did you leave? Having already risen, Cynthia stood on the balcony as she posed
this question.
“Yesterday,” Sean did not attempt to hide the truth. He even offered her some advice. “It
would be better if you postponed Joshua’s examination until after the New Year. You
shouldn’t worry too much about it. Oh, and I forgot to tell you something important
because I was preoccupied.”
Cynthia’s voice was cold, “What?”
“Joshua’s mental state has improved somewhat. However, it’s still unstable. Please be
careful not to upset him, Sean spoke slowly, his voice deep and somber.
Upon hearing this, Cynthia’s brows furrowed.
