Chapter 529

If Cynthia had been clear–headed enough at that time and had observed more closely, she
would have spotted the inconsistencies. However, people are not machines. Even the
most intelligent and rational person can be negligent, and there was no opportunity for
her to rectify this particular oversight.
In the next two days, Cynthia took care of matters at the Arch International Group, then
met with Yves. Although Joshua’s bullet had been removed, leaving Yves with no further
involvement, she still wanted to know more.
Yves and Cynthia had a good relationship, so he answered all of her questions and agreed
to the favor she asked when she left Sean was busy around the clock with matters
conceming Joshua. On the 23rd of the month, Sean found a breakthrough just as his

“Bass. there’s there’s a visitor.”
“Get rid of him. There’s no need to panic,” Sean said nonchalantly.
“This person is… a bit special. You should meet him,” his assistant said, his voice trailing
off, his expression complicated. Intrigued, Sean asked, “Who?
“Doctor Yves,” the assistant said obediently.
Sean fell silent. Yves had always had a low opinion of him, treating him as a stranger
whenever they met. Why would he suddenly come here?
“Boss?
“I understand.” Sean put down his work, adjusted his white lab coat, and headed outside.
His face was devoid of the casualness he displayed when meeting Joshua or Cynthia. It
was as if he was about to meet someone he dreaded.
When he stepped out, Yves was sitting in the visitor’s room.
The base was a testament to the highest levels of modern technology, and the meeting
room was no exception. As Sean approached, the door automatically slid open, revealing a
familiar figure that seemed perpetually half–asleep. “Why are you here?” Sean asked.
Yves said nothing, lounging in a light gray sweater, giving off an air of both lethargy and
distance.
“Did you come to see me?” Sean inquired again when Yves remained silent.
“Why did you lie to Cynthia? Yves asked, his eyes seemingly as deep as the stars, yet
strangely empty when one looked closer. Sean was taken aback for a moment, unprepared
for the question. However, he quickly recovered and feigned ignorance, asking, “What
have I lied to her about?”
“About Joshua” Yves got straight to the point.
“Did she tell you I lied to her?” Sean was both amused and slightly disconcerted. “Whether
you believe me or not, I told her the truth about Joshua There was no lie.”

together.
Suddenly, Sean let out a melancholic laugh. “Yes, you will choose to belleve Cynthia, but
no matter how I explain myself, you choose not to believe me. Is that the case?” he said.
“Yes,” Yves answered without hesitation.
The answer stung Sean. He gazed at Yves, his gaze meeting the latter’s pure black eyes.
Yves did not flinch or look away. One man was full of complex emotions, the other utterly
emotionless
In the end, it was Sean who looked away. He chuckled bitterly, his eyes empty when he
looked back up. “I’m sorry,
but I can’t give you the answer you’re looking for. Whether Cynthia can accept it or not,
Joshua is in the condition I told her about.” “I want to see him,” Yves asserted
“No unrelated personnel are allowed to visit,” Sean responded curtly. “You’re hiding
something” Yves saw through him Instantly.
