Chapter 89

It was a brutal storm, and lightning was tearing through the night sky. Evadne remembered that

Thaddeus was standing right under a tree! What was worse, he was actually calling her in this weather.

Was he trying to get himself killed?!

“Thaddeus, I’m not coming out to see you. Stop calling me and get home now!” Evadne’s eyes were

red with anger.

“If you don’t come out, I won’t leave.” Thaddeus’ voice was determined and deep.

“You crazy… jerk!” Evadne’s face was flushed with anger. She cursed as she headed towards the

stairs.

“Ms. Ilana! Ms. Ilana!”

No matter how Jason called, he couldn’t stop Evadne.

Thaddeus held his phone tightly, and his brows knitted. He stared intently in the direction of the villa’s

gate, standing upright, not wavering a bit. Finally, the gate opened.

There was a gleam in Thaddeus’ eyes, and his breath became heavy.

Evadne, wearing a coat and holding a large umbrella, walked quickly towards him. The wild wind made

her hair fly. Her body was swaying as if she could be blown away at any moment. But her expression

showed no fear, still tough as nails.

Thaddeus was surprised; he always felt like he had seen those eyes, shining like stars in the dark,

somewhere before.

Evadne calmly walked up to him. She was from the Ashbourne family, had four outstanding brothers,

and her father was Skyrim’s richest man, worth billions. She was used to controlling other people’s

fates. When did she ever let a man affect her emotions?

“Thaddeus, are you out of your mind or just plain crazy? Aren’t you afraid of getting struck by

lightning?” Evadne became angrier the more she spoke, wishing she could bite him to death.

Thaddeus’ eyes squinted slightly, and he asked in a low voice. “Do you care about me?”

Care?

Evadne took a deep breath and scoffed, “Don’t flatter yourself. I only came out because I didn’t want

you to cause trouble at my doorstep. I don’t want you dirtying my place.”

Her words were harsh and hurtful. But even so, Thaddeus felt that this version of Ilana was much more

lively and adorable than the woman who acted like a puppet.

Curiosity was the beginning of all emotions.

“Let’s get in the car and talk.” Thaddeus looked at her clothes soaked by the rain and said calmly.

“No need.” Evadne firmly refused. “Whatever you want to say, say it now, and say it quickly!”

“Get in the car.” Thaddeus was more stubborn, his brows furrowed, and he walked quickly forward.

Just then, a purple lightning bolt split the sky!

A loud thunderclap, a thick branch suddenly broke off and fell without warning!

The sound of the rain was too loud, and Evadne was completely focused on Thaddeus, so she didn’t

notice the danger approaching.

“Look out!”

She suddenly stopped, and the next second, she felt a wave of hot air rushing towards her. Thaddeus

reacted quickly, opened his strong arms, and wrapped them around her, holding her tightly under him.

That falling branch hit his broad back. Thaddeus tried to control himself, but a groan of pain still

escaped from his throat. Even so, his arms around Evadne did not loosen at all. Evadne’s pupils

shrank, her heart beating so fast it felt like it couldn’t fit in her chest. “Thaddeus! Are you okay?”

“I’m fine, get in the car.” He gritted his teeth to bear the pain, firmly gripping her wrist.

The rain was pouring down from the sky, but Evadne was completely speechless by this man, and he

forcibly pulled her into the car.

In the dimly lit car, there was a damp smell everywhere and hot breath.

Thaddeus took off his soaking suit and casually threw it on the pa**enger seat. His damp black bangs

partly covered his eyes, even looking disheveled, he was still attractive.

At this moment, Evadne was still unsettled, recalling the crisis just now, and the man’s embrace that

made her feel uncomfortable.

Three years of marriage, and he had never hugged her. So this is what it felt like to be embraced by

him, so rea**uring. Was this what Acacia experienced every day?

Thinking of this, a cold smile appeared on Evadne’s lips. No matter how good he was, he belonged to

someone else. There was nothing worth lingering over.

“Did Cas sius buy that villa for you?” Thaddeus glanced at her, his voice cold.

“Why do you ask?” Evadne crossed her arms and defiantly stared out the window. “Do I, a country girl,

look like I can afford such a big house? Of course, it was President Ashbourne’s generous gift to me.”

“Since you had nowhere to live, why didn’t you take the villa I offered you back then?” Thaddeus

couldn’t help but get a little angry, even ignoring the pain in his back.

“Why would I?” Evadne’s lips slowly curved up, and she scoffed softly. “It’s only right that I accept his

gifts. But what would it mean if I accepted yours? A transaction over, we each get what we want?

Thaddeus, you really know how to humiliate people. However, I am not the kind of person who forgets

her principles at the sight of money. I never used a penny of your money before our divorce, and I

certainly won’t do so now.”

“Ilana, I didn’t mean to humiliate you, you’re overthinking.” Thaddeus took a breath, his deep eyes filled

with complex emotions.

The reason Thaddeus gave her money initially was because he considered that she was a girl from a

common family. After the divorce, without savings, life in this city might have been difficult for her. After

all, besides material things, he didn’t have much else to give her.

“Enough. If you carne to me just to bring up those old things, I’m sorry, I’m not interested and don’t

want to hear it. I’m leaving!”

Evadne had no patience to chat with him anymore, so she reached out to open the car door.

Thaddeus’ heart tightened, and he quickly grabbed her wrist and pulled hard.

“Ah!” Evadne let out a surprised gasp, and the next second, she crashed into the man’s firm chest like

a little bird.

“I’m sorry.” Thaddeus voice was low and magnetic, captivating.

Evadne’s heart fluttered, and her nose was red from the impact. She looked up at him in surprise.

“You said… what?” Thaddeus’ throat went dry, and his eyes flashed with embarra**ment.

After all, he was not a spring chicken anymore, and he had never apologized to anyone before, so he

was a bit jittery. So, he unnecessarily added. “About that thing. I’m apologizing on behalf of Acacia. She

really shouldn’t have said those things to you in public.”

In an instant, Evadne’s mood took a nosedive, a cold smirk hanging on her lips. “Huh, so you’ve been

standing here in the pouring rain just to apologize for your fiancée. You’ve gone out of your way to run

over here, but I’m not buying your apology!”
