"It's fine." Avery reached out and took the papers back. "I will look through them myself, later." "Sure. You can also wait until your eyes get better to read them." Mike handed the papers to her. "Elliot probably brought these here so that you know what's going on with the kids! Why is he playing nice, though?" "lI don't know." Avery, too, could not guess what was on Elliot's mind, and she did not know why he was being considerate.
Avery had not taken her afternoon nap and was feeling light-headed, so she returned to her room with Layla's diary.
Mike picked up his phone and noticed that the call was still ongoing, so he placed it back to his ear. "Did you hear everything?" "Yeah." Chad's heart was heavy. "How are Avery's eyes?" "She can see if it's within a meter. The objects get blurrier the further away it is from her." "Oh... That's not bad. She is probably going to slowly recover from now on right?" "Yeah." "Once her eyes recover, will she be able to cback to Aryadelle to visit Layla and Robert?" Chad's heart ached after hearing what Layla had written in her diary. He had taken tto visit the children occasionally, and they both seemed to be doing fine. He had not expected Layla to be so depressed.

He seems frustrated every single day, so no one is stupid enough to ask him about it!" "Let's see what Avery wants to do once she has recovered! | don't really bring this kind of subject up with her either." Mike did not dare mention anything out of fear that Avery would cry, and all he wanted was for her to completely recover her vision in peace.
In the bedroom, Avery went over to the desk and placed the diary entries under the study light.
She desperately wanted to know what Layla was thinking and struggled to read every single word in the entries. Once she was done, her mood lightened.
The entry that Mike read was the first entry Layla had written since Avery had left, so it was filled with negative emotions. In the entries after that, Layla continued to console herself Avery was glad that Layla had grown to be such a strong little girl, but she felt sorry for her at the stime.
Had it not been for the drastic changes in her family, Layla would not have to be strong to begin with.
She tilted her head up to stop the tears from falling.
She had to recover, and once her eyes were better, she would go back to Aryadelle to get her children and bring them to Bridgedale. Anything was better than only thinking about them.
In the living room, Mike had finished his phone call with Chad and was thirsty. Just as he was looking for a cup, his phone rang.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmHe glanced at his phone and froze the moment he saw Elliot's non the screen.
Mike had not expected to receive a call from Elliot, as he had not called Mike since his divorce.
Mike took a deep breath and answered the call.
"The guard toldthat you are back." Elliot had left the guard his number after leaving the folder at the guardhouse. He had asked the guard to contact him once the folder reached Avery, and the guard had just called him.
He had tried calling Avery again, but she still would not answer the call. He suppressed all the frustration and awkwardness he felt and called Mike instead.
"Why did you bring Layla's diary entries here? Does Layla know that you are taking photos of her diary?" Mike returned to his room with the phone.
Instead of answering the question, Elliot asked, "What happened to Avery two months ago? Why did she hire a nurse?"
