Chapter 787
He picked up his phone, thought for a moment, and decided to call Holden.
But Holden didn’t pick up.
lan took a deep breath, went quiet for half a minute, then said to Jeff, “Call the people at Raymond Mansion and tell
them I’m coming over for dinner tonight.” Jeff immediately went off to do just that.
Seven o’clock in the evening.
lan arrived at Raymond Mansion on the dot.
Holden was playing chess alone on the sofa, with many pieces already on the board, indicating the game was
nearing its end.
He saw Holden about to move a piece back and couldn’t help but say, “Once a move is made, there’s no taking it
back.”
Unexpectedly, Holden looked up at him.
“Yeah, once a move is made, there’s no taking it back. So why are you here tonight?”
He could see right through lan’s intentions.
?
All because he thought Maja would listen to Holden, so he came to seek Holden’s help.
L
lan lowered his eyelashes and placed his gift on the table.
“Grandpa, this is the painting you’ve always wanted. I had it bought at a high price from abroad.”
Holden raised an eyebrow and took a look.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThis painting had been in the possession of a collector abroad who was unwilling to sell it. lan had to put in quite an
effort to get his hands on it.
also further proved that he had quite a bit of wealth abroad, so much so that even Holden himself didn’t know how
much.
Holden put the painting down with satisfaction but didn’t mention Maja. Instead, he cheerfully called for the butler
to bring out the dinner.
“It’s nice of you to come back and keep me company tonight.”
Knowing why his grandson had come back, he didn’t spell it out.
He had come back from abroad early just to play matchmaker for these two, and what happened?
lan didn’t cooperate, always refusing to meet Maja and even saying countless times he didn’t like her, even showing
strong disgust.

Holden had invested a lot of time back then, only for this kid to finally have a change of heart now.
Too late.
During the meal, lan dutifully served a bowl of soup to Holden.
Holden chuckled. “Good boy, at least you know how to show some care.”
Just as Holden was about to drink the soup, lan began to disclose the purpose of his visit.
“Remember when Maja saved you and took care of you in the hospital for a while? Grandpa, you have her photos,
right?”
At one point, Holden had said he would show him the photos, saying Maja was especially cute, diligent, and
responsible.
But lan had been so repulsed by this woman at the time that he had refused without a second thought.
If he had looked at the photos then, he wouldn’t have found out that Penny was his wife until now.
He regretted it deeply now.
“Oh, you mean that.”
Holden, in a good mood, had the butler find the photos.
A photo was placed in front of lan.
It was Maja when she first started college, with a high ponytail, looking youthful and vibrant.
Despite being cold, she always had a smile in front of the camera. Her skin was fair, she was wearing a simple
white shirt and jeans, and her lively aura was seemingly about to burst from the photo.
lan had never seen Maja at this stage before and felt as if his heart had been struck.
He stared at it for a minute, hearing Holden say, “Maja is very kind. If she hadn’t saved me, I would have died then.
She took me to the hospital and took care of me, even asking for leave in front of me. I was thinking then, How nice
it would be if this girl was my granddaughter–in–law, beautiful and capable.”
tan felt a pang in his heart, holding the photo tightly but afraid he might crumple it with his strength, so he slowly let
go.
He turned to the butler and asked, “Do you have scissors?”
The butler didn’t know what he needed scissors for but quickly brought a small pair.
So in front of Holden, lan cut the photo directly, even cutting off his own grandpa from it.
Holden was shocked by his actions, reaching for his cane to hit him.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“You good–for–nothing! Are you trying to kill your grandpa?”
lan was hit twice on the back, almost cutting the photo askew, and he couldn’t help but remind him, “Grandpa, you
can hit me later; there’s only one photo. If it gets ruined, there won’t be another.”
Holden was so angry that he couldn’t speak. After a long silence, he gritted his teeth and said,
“What good is her photo to you now? She doesn’t like you; I’ve told you so many times not to regret it; you said you
wouldn’t; and what now? Do you deserve it?”
Holden was the only one who dared say such things to lan, hitting him right in the heart.
lan was so taken aback that he stopped cutting, but he held back and slowly cut the photo out.
In the photo, Maja smiled at the camera, looking very well–behaved.
She was just like Holden had said, kind and dedicated.
To help a stranger unhesitatingly at that time, it’s no wonder Holden liked her.

Having been in his position for so many years, he could tell a person’s character at a glance, and Maja’s actions at
the time undoubtedly touched him.
Every extra glance lan took, the more his heart ached.
If only he had met her earlier.
There was still a bowl of rice in front of him, but he had no appetite to eat.
Holden was enjoying his meal, and seeing lan’s dispirited look, he was very pleased inside.
It was something he had thought about countless times, hoping his grandson would regret it, and he didn’t expect
this day to come so quickly. “Grandpa.”
lan called out, putting the photo into his wallet.
“She listens to you, so call her back. I want to remarry her.”
