Chapter 1610:
To him, it was just fabric—nothing worth stressing over.
“Seriously?!” Hadley groaned and shielded her eyes. “Now there's water in my eyes!”
“Chere... Letcheck. Does it sting? If it does, I'll kiss it better.”
Tangled in each other's arms, Eric and Hadley clung together, reluctant to part.
“Wait a second...” Eric murmured, summoning his last bit of self-control as he released Hadley. “I'll go get
something.”
The shower door squeaked as he pushed it open and stepped onto the cool tile floor.

Hadley knew exactly what he sought—protection tucked away in the cabbeside the sink, just steps away.
Their passionate encounters in the bathroom before had taught them to keep protection nearby, a practical habit
they'd maintained. Moments later, Eric returned, droplets still clinging to his skin.
Hadley watched him unwrap the package, her brow furrowing. “Don’t you want another child?” she asked, her
voice barely audible above the shower’s spray. Since rekindling their relationship, they’d never once skipped
protection, a fact that suddenly seemed significant.
Eric froze, surprise flickering across his features.
“Is that really my call? You'd carry the pregnancy and bring new life into the world. That makes it your decision,
doesn’t it?”
He hesitated, then added, “But since you asked... | feel indebted to Joy. I'd like to devote a few solid years to her
before considering a sibling.”
Youth remained on their side, particularly Hadley’s.
She'd beca mother to Joy at such a tender age. In a couple of years from now, she’d reach that ideal
window for welcoming another child.

“Of course,” Eric added with genuine ease, “if Joy is enough for you, she’s enough for me, too.”
“But...” Hadley blinked, startled by his perspective. “What about your father? Would he accept that decision?”
The Scott family had a legacy to pass on, after all. Ferris had fathered six sons and three daughters—living proof
of how deeply the family valued their continuing bloodline.
“Who cares what he thinks?” Eric shook his head dismissively, a touch of bitterness creeping into his voice. “He
produced a small army of children, yet here | stand—the only one he truly relies on. Quantity clearly doesn’t
guarantee quality.”
“Joy is my daughter,” he continued, his tone softening. “The family business will be hers if she wants it, just as
my grandmother once claimed her birthright.” His thoughts drifted to Nyla, the formidable matriarch who had
blazed that trail.
“In her day, Grandma stood alone as the Flynn family heir. Her husband adopted the family nto preserve
the lineage. So please, don’t feel any pressure. Another child or not—the choice rests solely with you.”
“Mm...” Hadley nodded as Eric drew her close. Her voice melted away as she surrendered to his embrace, the
conversation fading into the steam that surrounded them.
Without anyone knowing, rain descended upon Srixby, marking the start of the wet season. On one particular
Monday, raindrops had tapped against the windows since dawn, painting the world in watercolor grays.
