Upon seeing the test results, Brandon finally let out a sigh of relief, but he knew better than to take Sophia to places that might

trigger her memories again.

Today, he had taken Sophia to the old Crawley family estate, hoping that seeing the places from her childhood might jog her

memory, just like when she saw the bracelet. However, her reaction had been far more intense than he anticipated.

Brandon felt guilty.

"I'm sorry, | shouldn't have taken you there today."

As they left the hospital, Brandon apologized to Sophia in a gentle voice.

"It’s not your fault, it's mine," Sophia replied, sensing his guilt and wanting to ease it. "Honestly, the place felt both familiar and

pound."

Brandon furrowed his brow. A young girl's silhouette?

It reminded him of the first the visited Theresa's home.

Back then, he wasn't entirely sure Theresa was his daughter. They had met by chance in a park, and he offered to walk her home.

Theresa had mentioned that her mom was helping an elderly woman find her way back home.

That elderly woman was likely Renata, and it seemed Sophia had been the one to assist her.

He hadn't known any of this at the time—only that when he left Theresa's house and arrived at the door of her stuon the 15th

floor, she stood there, lost in thought.

But his mind had been clouded with anger over her keeping the truth about his daughter from him, so he hadn't noticed her other

emotions. Now, thinking back, perhaps something had unsettled her when she took Renata back to the Frost family.

Brandon said nothing, simply stepped forward and gave her a reassuring hug.

"Don’t overthink it," he soothed, "Your memories are still piecing themselves together. It's normal for your mind to be a bit

jumbled."

Sophia nodded softly. “Yeah.”

She didn’t want him to worry too much.

Still, in the chaotic images that flashed through her mind, she vaguely saw a girl wearing her bracelet, warmly embraced by a

family.

"By the way, what's the nof the girl wearing my bracelet today?"

Sophia looked up from his embrace, unable to suppress her curiosity.

She only knew Brandon called her "Ms. Barlow," and that she claimed to be a graduate school colleague and coworker. Nothing

more.

"Her name's Marian," Brandon explained. "She was a graduate school colleague and also worked with you at Star Dempsey

Architects. She impersonated you, taking on Yolanda’s identity, living with the Frost family for a couple of years, after making a

deal with your brother since they couldn't find you."

Sophia looked at him, surprised. "My brother? Have | met him? Did they not recognize me?"

Brandon pressed his lips together, nodding slightly. "They didn’t recognize you. There was an error with the DNA test results."

"I see." Sophia smiled, letting the conversation drift away.

When Brandon had asked if she wanted to meet her family, she recalled asking if they missed her, to which he had responded with

silence.

And in her subconscious, she didn’t have the yearning to meet them. So, she didn’t feel strongly about pursuing it.

Piecing together her identity from these scattered fragments, it seemed like her presence or absence didn’t quite matter to them.

Conveniently, without memories or emotional ties to them, she could keep her life simpler.

"Let's go," Sophia said to Brandon, not wanting to dig deeper into these matters.

Brandon glanced at her, nodding gently. "Okay."

She didn’t want to know, so he wouldn't push it.

But as they returned to the car, Brandon couldn't help but seriously warn Sophia, "Marian isn’t as simple as she seems. Don’t meet

her alone. No matter the reason, if she tries to meet you, avoid her. If youe across her, keep your distance, okay?"
