Chapter 935 Selena let out a sigh, "Rhett, any girl who ends up with you is in for a real treat. You're genuinely a great guy." Rhett laughed, "I'll take that as a bit of good luck." After hanging up, Selena decided she wasn't up for a run-in with Everett. She asked Ava to swing by Lakeside Mansion to pick up Mateo so he could spend the New Year's holiday with her.
Ava set off to get him as planned.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtTo her surprise, everything went smoothly. Kate had already packed Mateo's bag and was waiting at the door for Ava's arrival.
In just half an hour, Ava returned with Mateo in tow.
Having not seen his mom for a while, Mateo nearly dashed into her arms but caught himself just in time, opting for a gentle hug instead.
Selena was taken aback, and the next moment, Mateo asked, "Mom, are you having another baby?" Selena sat her son down, "Who told you that?" Mateo nestled into her embrace and replied honestly, "Daddy said so. He seemed pretty upset about it." Selena was caught off guard, "Oh, really?" Mateo was confused, "Isn't having a new baby supposed to be a happy thing? Why isn't Daddy happy?" "Well..." Selena gave a sheepish smile, unsure how to break it down for a kid. She decided to switch gears, "So, how have you been lately?" Mateo nodded, "I've been good, but Daddy's not doing too well." This kid couldn't talk for long without bringing up his dad.
Selena went along, "What's wrong with him?" Mateo tilted his head, thinking it over, then started counting on his fingers, "Daddy works late every night, barely sleeps, drinks, and smokes... The doctor has been over a bunch of times. I tried hiding his cigarettes and booze, but it didn't help..." Selena's brow furrowed.
Wasn't Everett supposed to be getting along with his new date? Why wasn't she taking better care of him? How could she let him spiral like this? The project in Hillcrest had wrapped up, and Blaine figured the South would be better for Selena's pregnancy. Plus, he wasn't comfortable with her heading back to Hillcrest alone, especially if something happened-he couldn't just jump in to help.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmSelena agreed, Blaine had his share of enemies and she wouldn't
gamble with her and the baby's safety. Plus, as her pregnancy m advanced, flying back and forth to see Mateo would becimpossible. Leaving her child for long wasn't an option.
Moreover, with the new school year starting, Haley would be beginning classes, and Newport's education system was top-notch. For the kids' sake, she couldn't keep uprooting them. After weighing it all, Selena went to the hospital for a check-up with Ava tagging along.
Once the exams were done, Selena settled in the waiting area while Ava handled the payments and collected the prescriptions.
Just then, the door of a nearby VIP consultation room swung open. Selena instinctively looked up, and her gaze froze.
Everett was helping Mila out, who was murmuring, "I can't believe...I'm actually pregnant, Everett. We're counting on you for this one!" Everett was about to respond, looking serious, when he noticed Selena. Their eyes met, and both were hit by a sudden shock.
