Chapter 749
Fancy a two-day getaway?
Marguerite was totally lost, as if she were trying to read Greek.
"Do we have to? We're leaving in a couple of days anyway. It doesn't seem like enough tfor a proper
vacation."
Marguerite's polite refusal was followed by a sly nudge to Frederick.
He gently squeezed her hand, his smile radiating warmth, "It's enough for a little adventure nearby. I'll cto
see you in a couple of days."
"Aren't you coming with me?" Marguerite interlocked her fingers with his.
"If I cwith you, how am | supposed to take care of everything else?"
"What else do you need to take care of?"
"Work stuff."

Marguerite felt something was off but couldn't pinpoint what exactly.
Frederick had already decided to cut ties with the hacker, so what work could possibly be left?
Was Frederick about to engage in ssort of turf war with lan? Help him take over territory?!
Marguerite's heart was racing. After dinner, she intended to pull Frederick aside for a clearer explanation.
But as they descended from the stilt house, she saw a servant loading two large suitcases into the trunk of a car.
Before Marguerite could process this, Sandra had already swung open the back door of the car, gesturing inside:
"Let's hit the road, Margot. I've booked us a hotel."
Marguerite was bewildered, and her confusion only deepened.
Their haste made her suspicious.
She offered Sandra an apologetic smile, then tugged Frederick aside, whispering with concern:
"What's going on? Are you going to war with lan? Are you out of your mind?" Frederick brushed a lock of hair
behind her ear, chuckling:
"What? Marguerite knows how to swear?"
His laughter only fueled her frustration, prompting her to punch him squarely in the chest.
Frederick winced, then gently caught her fist, blowing on it:
"Does it hurt?"
"Can you please just tellwhat's happening?"
Marguerite was at her wit's end, worried sick, and here was Frederick, still playing the romantic.
He pulled her close, "It's alright, don't worry. We're way past the age of fighting and violence."
Marguerite's voice was choked with emotion, "But I've seen on the news, countries fight over territory with
guns."
"That was in the past. It's all about economic battles now."
"Economic battles with tanks? | saw all the tanks heading to the front."
"Silly, they're just on routine exercise."
Marguerite could tell Frederick was trying to sound nonchalant, and she was on the verge of tears, taking a deep
breath before almost whispering:
"Can't you stop makingworry? We've only just made up, and you're already trying to makea widow?"
His smile deepened as he leaned in to kiss her fiercely.
His kiss was as passionate and intense as ever, leaving Marguerite without the will to resist.
Yet the despair in his eyes was the sas the night before!
After what felt like an eternity, Frederick finally let her go.
Marguerite's eyes were brimming with tears, "Will you really cto find me?"
"How could | not? How else would you get back?"
He stroked her back, then pulled out a new phone from his pocket and handed it to her:
"I got you a local SIM card, my number's saved on it. Textwhen you get to the hotel, okay?"
Marguerite nodded reluctantly and got into the car.
As the driver started the engine, she couldn't help but lean out the window, looking back.
She saw Frederick standing there, watching her leave, yet she couldn't discern the expression on his handsome
face.
