Chapter 748
The next morning, Marguerite was awoken by a flurry of hushed yet intense arguing.
She looked around, noticing Frederick was not in the room, though the warmth of his side of the bed lingered.
He must have just left, but where to?
Marguerite was a bit puzzled, and the arguing outside seemed to intensify.
Their room was perched high in a Victorian mansion, with windows on three sides, the panes old and creaky.
Therefore, it wasn't hard for Marguerite to spot two tall figures outside the west window.
The first voice she recognized was lan's, his English rapid like a rap verse, making it hard for Marguerite to catch
his exact words.
But she did pick up on a few familiar terms-
SUVs, pistols, bodyguards.
Then lan switched to his characteristic broken Chinese, "Not taking any?"
Frederick's voice was restrained, "Right."
"This is suicide! Suicide!"
lan couldn't help but raise his voice, prompting an irritated response from Frederick:
"Quiet, she's still asleep. Just drop it."

What was this about heavy weapons? Who wasn't taking what? And who was courting death?
This lan, why couldn't he speak more clearly?
She wanted to eavesdrop for more information, but the conversation outside cto an abrupt halt.
She saw lan's shadow moving downstairs, while Frederick stayed outside a bit longer, lighting a cigarette.
Watching from the window, Marguerite couldn't help but sense a unique sadness in his silhouette as he smoked.
It was a while before he cback inside.
Marguerite sat up in bed, her expression wary as she asked:
"What were you guys arguing about?"
Frederick seemed surprised she was awake so early.
He sat on the edge of the bed, gently ruffling Marguerite's hair, explaining:
"It's nothing, just a territorial dispute someone's trying to start with lan."
"Why is it always about fights here? Can we just go back home?"
Frederick's gaze was deep, and Marguerite realized she couldn't see through his thoughts.
Still, he agreed with her, leaning in to kiss her cheek, "Sure, we'll head back in a few days."
"Why not now?"
He chuckled, his hand petting her head like she was a tkitten.
"What's there to fear? This is lan's turf. No matter the dispute, you won't be harmed."
His words gave Marguerite an unprecedented sense of security.
She knew, as long as Frederick was by her side, she was safe.
But she still wanted to say more. Frederick, however, placed his finger on her lips, gently silencing her.
"Alright, get up and get ready. How about breakfast?"
Marguerite let out a sigh and nodded, resigning herself to the situation.
Breakfast was in another part of the mansion, where Sandra and lan were already waiting.
Upon seeing Marguerite, Sandra waved gently, asking, "Margot, did you sleep well? No headache?"
"I'm fine," Marguerite shook her head.
"| didn't realize you couldn't handle your liquor. | won't let you drink that much next time."
Sandra smiled apologetically at Marguerite, her smile making Marguerite feel somewhat embarrassed.
"It's okay, really. I'm fine."
The morning breeze was cool, and with the windows wide open, Marguerite felt a chill.
She wrapped her arms around herself, then noticed several SUVs moving outside, parking ceremoniously at the
mansion's gate, looking quite imposing. Marguerite's thoughts immediately went to what Frederick had said
earlier and instinctively glanced at lan's expression.
He looked somewhat grim, continuously pouring himself glasses of red wine, seemingly still upset with Frederick.
Marguerite couldn't help but look towards Frederick, who smiled at her, "It's a nice day, perfect for a walk."
Sandra paused in her action of serving food, though Marguerite couldn't tell what she was nervous about before
hearing her quickly change the subject:
"Yes. Margot, get ready after breakfast, I'll take you out for a couple of days."
